VH tour -Was it as good as you thought it would be?

Juat a few random questions, just wondered what your thoughts were.

1 In hindsight was the VH with Dave tour as good as you thought it might be?

2 There was some much expectation about the teaming up of Ed & Dave again, did it live up to the hype?

3 Would you go and see VH with Dave again?

    2) No It didn't
    3) Probably not without Hot sauce peddler. Certainly not without new music. So in other words NO

    1. For me it was amazing. I never got to see them the firt time around, and by 2007 I had given up on it ever happening. Getting to see the first show up front was amazing.

    2. Again, see #1 - for me it did. VH doesn't owe me anything, and to get the opportunity to catch Dave & Eddie together lived up to the hype for me.

    3. You bet I'll be up front at the first show the next time they go on tour!

I thought it was great. I saw them at Mohegan Sun in Conn. Probably their 6th show of the first leg, probably one of their smaller venues of the tour. Had great seats (hey, I got that kinda scratch ) The crowd was amped and into it, age appropriate. A bunch of 40 somethins standin for 2 hours singin along with the tunes. I had a chance to see them at MSG a few months later but passed. I didnt think I could top the weekend at Mohegan Sun. Thanx to EVH an DLR, I will see them again if they tour in 2010, hopefully another Fri. or Sat. nite. Thats all this 41 yr old wants to deal with anymore...

    1) When considering the state of some of the individual members in the last few years leading up to the tour, the regrouping had all the potential to be a complete disaster. It wasn't.

    2) No, not really. Taking into account how long I'd wanted to see Dave and Ed back onstage together, the end result while not a colossal failure really wasn't any better than the solo Roth shows I saw in 2005 and 2006. Bigger scale, bigger arena, but the novelty of Dave and Eddie back together wasn't enough to transcend what was overall a competent, slightly above average, well-rehearsed rehash of past glories.

    3) Not without new material, and a substantial representation of that new material onstage. That holds regardless of Mike being there or not. I've shelled out enough dough to see The Classic Van Halen Experience featuring David Lee Roth since 1999. Last year I shelled out twice that amount to see The Classic Van Halen Experience featuring David Lee Roth and special guest stars The Van Halen Brothers. Have had enough "present day nostalgia". Am only interested in paying money to look backwards if it is towards a box set of audio and video from 1974 to 1984. Either move the band forward or I can't be bothered.

    My observations from Down Under...

    1. It was at least as good as I expected. I must have read 40-50 reviews in the press and about 90% of those ranged from positive to fantastic. And the shows I saw on Youtube looked great!

    2. Yes, again judging by the reaction in the press and from those who attended.

    3. Yes if they ever come to Australia!

I think it was better then I thought it would be. I saw them front row Reno 1st show after the break. That show was better then all the you tube clips I have seen up to that point. It was fucking rock solid tight!! I would see them again any chance I get!!

    1). Yes. I knew going into it that it wouldn't be as "magical" as if Mikey were there, but it was still a great show. { Although I was also at the Jersey show where Ed tossed the monitor off stage }

2). The interaction between Ed and Dave was the best part, besides hearing them play the tunes. I was at the Greensboro show, second show of the tour, where they both teared up. That made our night....

3). Absolutely, even if a new album didn't come, which I think it will. I'm not picky.

Due to a family tragedy, I missed the show by 1 day.

So I can only support what Halen High said.
From the clips I've seen, I would say they did better than I would
have expected, especially Mr Roth !
Dave was the glue and shut every sheeps mouths
shut forever ! (Rememeber the linky wankfests about
how Dave would never be able to pull it off ??)

    MWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH !

Al was as good as always, Ed was on and off.
Wolf did a good job under the circumstances
The harmonizer/pitch shifter/Mikey Replacer, was on top of its game.

    1. It was a great show.

    2. The show wasn't really hyped all that much. There was only the pre-tour press conference. The rest was reviews and fan drivel. The "no press from the band" during the whole tour indicated it was a very fragile thing that could implode at any point. Which it did a couple of times. It lived up to my expectations... but the energy on stage was lacking at points. Just wasn't as great as the VH I saw 78 - 85.

    3. If they happened to play a music festival or something with a reasonable price... less that $30 a ticket... then I might go see em. If they repeated the 07/08 tour with no new music... no way I'd waste the money on them again. Even with new music... doubt I'd drop over $100 a ticket to see them. I've seen em at the top and bottom of their game... with Ed's bullshit... I'd rather leave it to memory than waste my hard earned money.

    2. Yes, because I had no expectation.Nobody in their right mind would expect a CVH show. Times are different. People change. (note most of the hype was generated by VH internet forums)

Not without new material or box set of vintage stuff. If Bassplayer rejoined it would be interesting.... mmm maybe...

    1. live in the uk and had little chance to get over to see it but from videos utube etc etc Thought it was fucking great ,expected a car crash but it actually worked. Yeah there was a down side thats been well documented here and ed was patchy to be generous but fuck it.

    2. Seeing Dave and ed on stage looking like they were going for it ... stella mother fucker .

    3. It needs new music ..I still think MWM and CGTSNM fucking kick ass.
Get them to the uk ,get them at the 02 and let them hear some fucking real noise .

it was better than i thought it would be.

yes it lived up to it mostly on daves part. ive seen dave alot of times 2 times with vanhalen and to tell you the truth, he sang like shit those two times, i was really dissapointed the last time i saw them because of daves half singing.
when i seen them in 2007, dave sounded really good, he sang better than i have ever seen, solo or with vh. i dont like it that he does those yelps and yips shit, especially when he has proved he can still scream.
it seems that ed just doesnt play effortlessly anymore. i think he should drop the mad scientist shit with his guitars and just get the 1 that fucking works and play the motherfucker, maybe its me expecting too much. looking back i am sorry mike wasnt there, he should have been. at that point i would have accepted a girl playing bass just to see dave and ed together.

yes i would go see them again and will, they are my favorite band, why the fuck wouldnt i ?.
