    Ed Producer?

Do you think Ed can pull this off with the new album?

Cos i bet he does not want to spend money on a outside producer.

I think he may just have another meltdown under the pressure.

Remember those last songs he produced on that 'best of' Hmmm...

Do you think he can pull it off successfully?

Just look at VH III, which he essentially produced himself while telling the record company that Mike Post was looking after things. I do not know much about album production, but even someone as clueless as me knows to unplug the aquarium and the tv set when recording guitar tracks, as the resulting buzz gets picked up in the microphone.

I wonder if Ed has changed since 96'

    1 Scrutinizing Dave's lyrics.

2 Not letting Dave turn the vocal booth into 'Club Dave'

    3 Being a cunt

He should just get Ted Templeman and Mo Ostin... But he doesn't do what the "Fans" want. They helped Ed get his sound and shit. It's like, put out a fucking new album with Dave already. We don't give a shit if it sucks, just put out new stuff.

From what Ed said in Guitar World, I wouldn't hold my breath for any new material anytime soon.

Would be interesting to have an outside producer work with the band in a studio that wasn't in Ed's back yard. Someone who could challenge the band in the aspects of songwriting and performance if things weren't shaping up to be everything they could be while recording was underway.

Sorry to say, but when left to his own devices Ed usually has shit in his ears far as getting good sounds in the studio goes. VH3 was painful to listen to, a bit more in terms of sonics than songwriting (there were a few good ideas expressed), and that was essentially an EVH production.

Hmm... I really have not much to say about this. Ed, Dave, Mike and Al should all get back together, put out two or three albums before retirement, sell some t-shirts and tablature books and call it a day. But we all know that'll never happen.

Ed should quit his un-job and get a real job.

Just not one producing. Sufferers of tinnitis burden all others around them when editing music, creating sonic dross and ruining the new music experience for others.

Maybe his hand is really phucked up after surgery and he will not talk about it.

Guess it's more likely that he's just a gunt through & through.

I think ED is too busy blaming the fans for being "sooooo disinterested" in any new music he might want to put out now.....

Why hire a producer when its easier to blame the fans?

The well has gone dry. Think about it... He's spent the better part of the past decade pickled on Loon and doing Meth. Claims to have numerous albums of material ready to go. Apparently took him forever to record those 3 lame assed for the BOV1. Emerges from Howdy Doody Mountain long enough to have his Methmouth repaired, calls Dave and does a tour with a beginner on bass (no new material is played).
Plays many dates stumbling around his parts and the stage smashed on "Gatorloon", gets sober again, finishes tour and continues to make excuse after excuse avoiding getting in a room with "the band" to make music.
He finally says they're workin up some "idea's" and everything is great.

NOW he surfaces in Guitar World magazine claiming that they may never release any new music, claiming that ,basically, no one will pay for it and just download it for free and also eludes to the fact that "certain" people (most likely DLR) doesn't like what he's coming up with.....

Content to rest on past laurels?
If that's the case, Ed can go fuck himself...

    THE WELL IS DRY!

Whoah ! Missed that one, do you have linkage or a scan ????
Everyone knows they have tracks down, so unless Ed was having
a bad day when he said this, I guess the best we can hope for is
the mega remastered box set with those missing tracks ???
(Along with some good concert footage, past and present)

while we're talking I have "fair warning" in my stereo and the volume is on KN (killing neighbours)...and I honestly don't believe that any of these egomaniacs could ever come up with a masterpiece like that again...

don't forget...they originally came from total different musical directions...which lead to the split in the first place (aside from all of them being drugged up, alcoholic egoistical assholes)...they found the least common denominator to go on tour together...and that were the old songs with Wolfie as the catalyzer to let it happen...

they went from "running with the devil" to "how many say I" and "my big thing"...to put that together again would mean to put egos aside which are bigger than the pacific ocean...not to mention smoking loon and all the other shit...

I'm definitaly not holding my breath...

The only constant with Van Halen is we get the unexpected...
Dying to read this new interview, if its as grim as DJ posted,

The thing i am still clinging to is the fact that Dave remains silent. Is he silent because they will tour again and he doesn't want to miss out or does he know there will in fact be another album? I'd say that if you start hearing from Dave again then it doesn't look good, but the current state of silence speaks volumes to something being afoot. Eddie needs to commit to something either way so Dave can do another solo record if nothing is going to happen with VH.

Right now Dave is writing lyrics to the suitcase of music that Ed dropped off……the “well” is not dry….it just has not been dug yet.

Have faith …..if Ed cares anything about Wolfie ( and you know that he dose ) he will make sure that Wolfie lives the dream...... it’s Wolfies dream now and it rest in Ed’s hands.

If any of you guy’s have a son….then you know for sure that it will happen…….( but it can only happen with Dave )

Do you think he can pull it off successfully?
. . . will dave permit eddie to produce?

. . . don't forget, dave's an accomplished producer in his own right. he produced dlr band (brilliance) and diamond dave and didn't he produce skyscraper as well?

. . . glen ballard is the obvious choice for the new project . . .

Well, in the event that there is an album, the obvious choice for a producer is Ted Templeman.

He's too old? So what? When EMI/Capitol wants to put out another Beatles release, they don't fuck around, they drag George Martin's fossilized ass into the building and get it done. Made the mistake with another producer (Spector) back in 1970, they never did so again.

If Templeman is physically incapable of sitting behind the glass, then bring in Rick Rubin. He's probably the only other producer who could do it right.

Templeman is still working, but at a relaxed pace. He did a Joan Jett album in 2006, and is currently working with the Doobie Brothers. He once stated that recording Van Halen was ridiculously easier to record than the Doobies, effectively saying that with VH he just throws up some mics, they play and that's it, while with the DBs he has to take elaborate steps. So he definitely would be up to it, but with Eddie Van Halen being so iffy these days, the combination may or may not work out.

I totally disagree on Rick Rubin. The guy makes some of the flattest sounding records ever made, in homage to albums of the seventies. As a result, the drums sound like muffled cardboard boxes and the guitars are compressed to the point of mud. This (along with little, if any enhancement) leaves the vocals sounding dryer than the desert. And I won't mention the bass, mainly because I've never heard it.

If you think I'm kidding, check out AC/DC's Ballbreaker or that Metallica album from last year. Both are virtually unlistenable, at any volume.

Rubin did pretty well with Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Danzig, and the Chili Peppers, just to name a few off the top of my head. He seems to have a pretty good ratio of success over failure, at least. Other factors are involved sometimes.... Ted Templeman and Andy Johns produced "F.U.C.K.", but neither of them, despite all their experience, could save that album from Sammy Hagar.

    . . . the weezer songs i've heard produced by rubin are very good . . .

. . . as far as eddie van halen producing, his production style is more easy listening than heavy metal. for instance, OU812 wasn't that hard at all and the sammy album he produced didn't rock that substantially and neither did that song he did with alex for the twister soundtrack. and the record they did with cherone speaks for itself. then they bring in glen ballard for the best of both worlds and -- voila! -- the band got the kick in the pants it needed to sound like hard rock again . . .

    . . . self-produced hasn't really worked for van halen, has it?

Ed's a cuntfused liar. He' says one thing here, another thing there, and gets pissy because we don't love every dram of music he puts out; after all, it is HIS way or the highway so like it or you get nothing you ungrateful heathens. FAK ORF!
