Man Halen named "Cover Band Of The Year"

My little CVH cover band has been named "Best Cover Band In Cincinnati" by Cincinnati Magazine this year.

Man Halen, which consists of current and former members of The Chocolate Horse, Caterpillar Tracks, The Murder Junkies (seriously), and Mellow Gold, plays “Sammy-free” vintage Van Halen only, which, in case you haven’t noticed, takes talent. These guys have it, and they know how to wrap it tightly in spandex and use it to blow your mind."

It's low budget tongue in cheek, and we're not really too good, but it's fun. I think that the writers just hate cover bands and wrote us in out of spite, cause we've all been doing original music in this town since the days of The Afghan Whigs.

The band came about when VH came to town on the last tour and the tickets were over $100. Dave the guitar player's birthday was like a day before the show, so we decided to play a set of CVH at the bar I do sound at and have a big party. Somehow it got written up in the Enquirer and ended up packed with people loving on some Van Halen. One more gig at the 4th of July Rock and Roll Carnival and we're a franchise. Ha!

I actually have been doing gigs of this nature lately while working on a new Jackass record. Halloween was The Ramones, and last night was Black Sabbath. Just a core of 8-10 players doing "loose tribute" sets. We've done;

People are sick of the greedy record labels, the price gouging, and there being no fun music anymore. So some talented people are in cover bands playing clubs because they know that element if what started it all. Maybe the music industry ate it's golden goose. I hope so. People just want to escape the bullshit in their life and have a good time. Maybe we are going back to basics.

Our guitar player can sing like Bono and play like the Edge. He has double duty and we do a lot of U2 songs because we can. People freak. I'm pretty damn tired of playing Streets With No Name but people like that song and we have made some $$$$$$ with it.

youre band kick butt jackass. youre singer reminds me of my hubby "righty".except for the hair. hubbys a little folically challenged you might say. id' hate to tell him this but your guitarplayer can really out play the little guy. iv'e only seen him twittle around on this scratched up filthy guitar that has what looks like he painted it with a brush. its a bit rusty to. damn i think the stupid thing is missing a couple of strings now that i think of it.

would your band ever think about maybe doing a tribute to warrant?.

he dosnt look like old photos i saw of him.he looks like he done a lot of real hard livin.pretty sure its the booze and that crap he smokes in that crazy lookin glass pipe he carrys around. as for his eyebrows christ they look like fuckin centipeeds.
