Hahahahaha!!! Gibson rated "worst place to work" by it's own employees!!!

    Gibson Guitar Reviews | Glassdoor.com

Gibson voted by employees as worst place to work! - Christian Guitar Forum

Gibson voted by employees as worst place to work!
Gibson was branded the worst company to work for by it's own employees who not only rated the company, but the CEO of that company as well on Dec. 16, 2009 This posting is the 17th.

Southwest Air tops best places to work: survey | Reuters

Listed as the worst place to work was Gibson Guitar, followed by United Airlines, Spherion, AutoZone and Rain Bird.

The poor QC complaints...the raid over illegally harvested imported woods....and now the opinions of the employees as well as Gibson being branded the worst company to work for......and their money troubles with their credit rating officially downgraded......DOES make a person wonder what is going on over at Gibson.

There are rumors of a buyout, but those have been going on forever, though this does not speak well for Henry....because MOST of the dissatisfaction by their employees is over HIM...not the company in general.

    Gibson Guitar Reviews | Glassdoor.com

It shows only 1.9 % are dissatisfied with the company itself....where most of the hate comes from is HENRY! At a whopping 88% DISAPPROVAL RATING BY GIBSON EMPLOYEES! WOW!

Company Rating Based on 57 ratings
    “Dissatisfied”
    1.9

CEO Approval Based on 42 ratings
“Do you approve of the way this person is handling the job of leading this company?”
    10% Approve
    88% Disapprove

The Peavey takeover stuff is still rumor.

But the FACT is that Moody's downgraded Gibsons credit a couple of months back:

GIBSON : Rumors RUMORS rumors - My Les Paul Forums

Gibson Guitar is the lowest rated company on the Glassdoor list. Gibson is privately held. The firm is based in Nashville. Gibson got into financial trouble in the early 1980s and was rescued by a group of investors in 1986. Gibson had several layoffs that cut its workforce by about 20% by mid-2009. There have been a number of complaints about the quality of the company’s products recently. In November, it was revealed that Gibson was being investigated for violating the Lacey Act, a key piece of environmental law, for importing endangered species of rosewood from Madagascar. The alleged violation has gone over poorly with Gibson customers and may hurt sales.

Gibson's B3 corporate family rating reflects the decline in revenue and profitability during Q1 and Q2 2009 and by the continuing delays in completing its audited financial statements. The rating benefits from Gibson's leading market share in guitars and strong brand recognition. The rating is also supported by the company's ability to generate free cash flow, its product diversification within guitars and its geographic diversification. These factors help offset Gibson's modest size with revenue at approximately $300 million, increasing financial leverage and significant customer concentration with Guitar Center.

For those who are interested, here's the text from the full Oct 27 Moody's ratings action:

New York, October 27, 2009 -- Moody's Investors Service downgraded Gibson Guitar Corp.'s corporate family rating to B3 from B2 largely due to Moody's expectation of weaker than expected 2009 operating performance versus 2008. At the same time, the probability of default rating was downgraded to Caa1 from B3 and the rating on the senior secured credit facility (term loan and revolver) was downgraded to B3 from B2. The ratings are on review for possible further downgrade. Although subject to change, the LGD assessments are not on review.
The one notch downgrade in the corporate family rating to B3 from B2 reflects the company's expected diminishing operating performance in 2009 versus 2008 and Moody's view that operating performance will likely continue to be pressured for the near term. The downgrade also reflects Moody's concern over Gibson's continuing delay in issuing its 2008 audited financial statements and the risks associated with the company's corporate governance structure.
"The review for downgrade reflects Moody's concern over Gibson's liquidity position as the company no longer has access to its revolving credit facility because of the delay in issuing its financial statements by the waiver deadline" said Kevin Cassidy, Senior Credit Officer at Moody's Investors Service. The review for downgrade also reflects Moody's concern about the company's ability to comply with financial covenants over the next few quarters as the covenants contractually adjust.
Moody's review will focus on the company's liquidity position, including the cushion for covenant compliance and operating cash flow.

Nashville, Tennessee…March 20, 2009…World Wide sales for musical instrument product categories in which Gibson Guitar compete have dropped more than 20% in the US and most of the world in the first quarter of 2009. While Gibson has continued to gain market share, the extent of the slowdown in retail purchases, and the uncertainty of when this market will recover mandates that Gibson makes changes to insure the size of our organization is appropriate for the anticipated sales levels. This large drop in purchases is being experienced in virtually all consumer product categories.

After implementing these changes, Gibson is positioned to continue to be profitable even under more severe stress, as it has been consistently since 1986. It will allow the company to continue to maintain a conservative balance sheet and be positioned for continued market share expansion.

Henry Juszkiewicz, CEO of Gibson Guitar Inc. stated, ”We regret that the company had to reduce our work force today to meet the economic challenges faced by our industry. We believe our streamlined team of talented people will continue to serve our valuable customers in an increasingly excellent fashion. We expect to continue to build the finest instruments in the world and lead the industry in quality and innovation.”

There are rumors that Gibson was trying to get Hartley Peavey to buy them. It probably won't happen. Hartley has always been wary of banks, Wall Street, and debt. He expands with cash, not credit. His bread and butter is electronics but had to get into making guitars because Gibson in the 1970's threatened dealers not to sell them guitars if they carried Peavey amplifiers. Peavey was stomping Gibson in the country western market and had a reputation for bullet proof reliability at a fair price.

Plus, the guitar market has fallen off a cliff. Especially the high end where Gibson markets itself. People are always going to play guitar but with money being scarce they are going to be looking for quality for their money and this is where Peavey built his business. He's already positioned there. Why would he want to spend money in tight times buying up Gibson and inheriting a quagmire? It makes no sense. Gibson just might fold but someone will end up buying the name and the patents down the road.

Someone somewhere will still make Les Pauls with the famous headstock and name. They probably will buy it up cheap too. The Chinese are now into that game because they have the money.

Gibson must be horribly fiscally managed. If you look at high end products the profit margin usually sucks because the cost of production is so high. One reason high end car companies are usually bought out by mass producers because they can't make it on their own and the mass producer wants the name and prestiege.

Where Gibson was pretty smart was knowing people wanted the nostagia and the old designs. So they made that available at an affordable price at Epiphone and I will bet you Epiphone is where the money was being made and not at Gibson. You would think Epiphone would have given Gibson a the resources to keep afloat but you never know until you look at the books.

I never got these people who say work is fun. Sex is fun. Work is work. I've worked for huge corporations, the government, and now myself. It's still work and I still have to play games usually with government agencies sticking their nose in. Most of the big corporations abuse their employees now. About everyone I know has had their benefits and pay cut unless of course you are the CEO. Why people just don't dip these assholes into hot tar, roll them in hemp and set them on fire is beyond me.

Oh yeah, plus, the arrogant fucks who said it's just the line workers who are going to have to do something else like be a computer programmer. Now a guy in India or China is writing the code.

It all was to enrich a few and now we are a broke country with no industry and everyone is crying that there are no jobs. Most jobs would be gone if the government didn't hire people so it's a shitty situation.

We can't beat the Chinese on price but we can beat them on quality. What we need is affordable QUALITY American products. I needed some power amps. I bought Carvin. MADE IN USA and the best for the price. Better than the Chinese made shit. This company is family owned. If it was owned by Wall Street it would be Chinese junk.

We need to first start making products for our market, build the base there and then export. This will take 30-40 years but we need to get going. World trade is great if you run a trade surplus. It's horrible if you don't.

Just look for another job, doctor that resume to match, then leave! It's harder to get a job, if you don't have a job I know.. I used to have a job years ago now I just make my own money.

But don't quit Gibson until you find another job to go to, even if it's a 7-11 or a KFC. Man, I loved working at KFC I could eat all I want and nobody would say nothin..

Fender - Private group owners held by Dan Smith with Yamato Music Japan owning 70 percent.

Peavey - Privately owned and held by Hartley Peavey.

PaulReedSmith - sold his soul in 1989 for 500K but still pulls a paycheck there.

Carvin - it's a weird one.. it's a private group, but like Peavey it's family I think one grandkid and one cousin of the originator own it.
