Dave Performing "Kicks" By Paul Revere & The Raiders

This showed up at Youtube yesterday. It's a cover of the Paul Revere and The Raiders tune "Kicks". That's definitely Dave on vocals, but I'm unclear as to what the backing group is. The VH Bootleg site offers some very different sources for the tune. One theory is that this is a Mammoth demo from sometime in 1974, and first emerged from Dave TV on davidleeroth.com in 1998. Another notion is this is really from the "Crazy From The Heat" sessions.

If anyone can shed some light on this tune, it would be appreciated.

The audio is a bit misleading, makes it sound older than it really is. There's a much cleaner version on a Roth rarities disc that circulated DDLR a few years back. (Mississippi Power, Private Parts, etc.)
Alot of people have said that it's from as late as '94 and was a YFLM out-take.

It's very doubtful that it's CVH. Doesn't sound like Ed or anything he'd want to do...

I always heard it was either a YFLM outtake or from an unrelated session in the 1990's. Definitely not a Mammoth/Van Halen demo in either case.

Oddly enough, the Monkees also recorded a cover of this song for their first "comeback" in 1986.

It was the tune Dave wrote for the Howard Stern movie. It didn't make the movie or the soundtrack (my guess is that there was already a few CVH tunes on there already).
The tune did make it onto the DLR Band disc with different lyrics, now it's called "Tight".

The audio does make it sound like something from the 70s, but - at least to my ears - Dave's voice sounds like it's from around the time he released Your Filthy Little Mouth Mouth.

    Cheers! :bottle:

If I had to guess, I'd say it was being worked up to put on Diamond Dave. Many tunes from that album were covers from this era.

    Oh dear.
