Hey, it's easy to be taken in by these things. The truth is, dozens of releases like this come and go every month, for all sorts of artists. And a great deal of them are utterly ghastly. For instance, the Van Halen US Festival footage comes to mind.

    True that, Chef!
I find it hard to believe that for some of these groups, the red tape is far too much trouble to release vintage footage.
All record company legalities, gripes with ex-members, or the estates of those who have passed on must pale in comparison with what a lot of these groups would stand to make.
Aerosmith is a tired dog now, but imagine they released footage from the Wings, Toys or Rocks tours?
Or P-Funk on the Mothership Connection?
The one that gets me is the Allman Brothers Band...they practically lived at the Fillmore East when Duane and Berry were still here...Bill Graham never rolled once?
Half the namesake of the band is vanishing into obscurity, when he should be mentioned in the same breath as Clapton, Beck or Page.
They should strike while the iron is hot...the majority of their fanbase isn't getting any younger, and I don't want to be rocking out to the Oakland show when I'm 63, and attempting bong-rips!

If you build it...they will come!

I think we're talking the same show, but wasn't this technically at Irvine Meadows ??

Graham habitually filmed shows at both Fillmores, but unfortunately they were rarely much better than our parent's old super-8 cameras. Quality-wise, think of those ghastly films we saw in high school during driver's ed or science class, only worse. A great deal of this footage is available at the Wolfgang's Vault site.

Believe it or not, PBS filmed a show or two of the Allmans at the Filmore East on 09/23/1970. To my knowledge, the full show was never aired or released in a complete, commercial form. You can catch a clip or two at Youtube, but it is of a second or third generation dubbing and is pretty cruddy in quality.

Thanks again, Chef. I recall seeing clips like the one above on the VH1 Classic retrospectives, and I see that and wonder why I can't go down to the store and buy the whole thing
Kind of like Oakland '81. You've seen parts of it, so you wonder where the rest of it is.
I was in junior high when MTV hit, and because they had so few vids at the time, you could predict in a ten minute range when a certain video could pop on.
More than once, Unchained made me late for Homeroom. My mother would be screaming for me to get goin', and on the tube, I can just make out Dave, atop the drumriser, amid the swinging spotlights...I know what's comin'...where the fuck am I goin' right now?
It's been how long? What was that? 81? 82??
It's been almost thirty fuckin' years, Ed! If you release any video, just complete this fuckin' show!
Pay Mike, Pay Dave, Pay whoeverthefuck, just get it done
    Dammit....

    Sorry...little noob tantrum, there
