Website Design / Forum Upgrade Timeline

Here is what needs to be done

1. Forums upgraded by vbulletin.com
2. Blog Upgraded
3. Picture forum upgraded / Arcade Upgraded
4. Website design sent to developer to skin
5. Customization
6. Done

7. The rest of the website will be upgraded to include what was there before: Interviews/Lyrics.. etc.
I can't start any of that until the design is skinned.

Saturday, March 27th- Paid Vbulletin for Vbulletin 4.0 Publishing suite/installation. They will professionally install the forum. This needs to happen first before a forum design is implemented.
Waiting on a response on installation time. Jelsoft is quick and my guess is that we will have a new installation within 3 days.

It seems like you have a solid plan of action in place to complete this. Does this mean you would like Melton & I to step aside at this point? Who are you using as the developer? I just want to make sure we are all on the same page.

First things first after the upgrade, I doubt Jelsoft will do it, make sure all the hacks, add-ons work.

Start some sort of feedback thread because some users I'm sure will have questions. They may lose their avatars for example. You really throughly have to check things out. Like the "Find all posts" search, etc.. Probably will have to re-install your smileys. Unless there's something extra you're paying for again Jelsoft I don' think will do that. But, again I did mine myself so that is just a guess. Font sizes will be different.

Go over everything with a fine tooth comb.

I assume you got the suite so the blogs feature is better. Also, now you be able to have a Content Management system as your front page as well.

Lots of widgets for plentiful information.

I'll post more when I remember. From a systems standpoint the PHP is different but that is transparent to the registered users.

Setting up the CMS sections and categories and the overall look and feel is going to take patience.

If you're going to use the feature. I assume you are because you're upgrading no sense not to IMO.

It's more difficult in vB4 to change things until you get used to it. Meaning for the staff. The registered users should be fine rather quickly.

We covered navigation, header and sub header graphics, potential additional assets for the design, and a bunch of other boring crap. We also went over my first draft of the site navigation document that will be given to the developer. We talked about what elements of the design change can be handled on the user side (meaning Sarge or anyone with admin access) and what stuff the developer will have to handle. I asked Melton to look into getting additional quotes from other developers. I also have a few developer leads I want to check into as well. The next call I have scheduled with Melton is Monday April 5th at 8 PM. At that point, we should have a better idea of when the site can head into production and what the final costs associated with that may be.

I know how to upgrade the software. The reason why I am having Jelsoft do it is because we have over a million posts. The database was created years ago and frequently I have had problems with it crashing everytime I upgrade.
Much easier for them to troubleshoot the problems.

Safe assumption. Most developers will slice and dice Melton's Photoshop design and put them into tables. From what I understand, you can build a non-table VB skin but it is tricky.

Vbulletin installer got back with me and my host has to upgrade the mysql on the server before he continues with the install. I contacted my host and they are working with the installer to meet his needs.

No the upgrade didn't complete successfully!
Conmee is going to have to add his assistance.

The old database is mysql 4.0
It needs to be converted to 5.0.
Every time the installer tries to convert it, it causes errors.
Sending this to Conmee for his advice.
