It's a little late for that, ain't it? The guy's pushing 70, his bones are probably too brittle for that.

You know, it's headlines like these that you always dread seeing, but you know you're going to see someday. With him pushing 70 now, you can't help but to think it's something serious.

The guy's a trooper, though, so here's to hoping he has a speedy recovery. Got far too much Heaven & Hell left in him for it to be TOO bad...right? I need another few REAL Black Sabbath albums and those ain't happening with Ozzy...

Well, at his age, this can't be good... either he turns out to be an immortal like Keef, or it may very well be the end for one of the gratest singers in history.

    I'm thinking the first.

My youngest sister has been a major fan of his for decades. She is going to be crushed when he finally kicks it.

I hope he gets better soon. We do not have enough great metal vocalists around.

These days, we have mostly no-talent shouters instead.

I know. Kinda shocked me too. But then, I hardly feel like I'm nearly 40. It doesn't really mean anything to me unless I concentrate and think of my dads 40th birthday bash. Damn, how old I thought he was when I was 6. I figured I wouldn't get there for a million years. Blink of an eye.

He released his first album in 1958 I believe.

He has literally had the longest career of just about any rocker who has released an album.

Max and I were just talking about the tune he released in the 1950's which was doo wop style tune.

I just know that he was already old when I was still young.

    Get well soon, pisan.

i do believe chuck berry can claim that title.
his first single, "maybelline" was cut and released on chess records in 1955.
chuck is around 82 or 83 years old now, and he is still touring every year.

as to ronald padavona, he has stage 1 stomach cancer.

Here is my Ronnie James Dio story. 100% true.

I was about 14 and I worked on a lunch truck. The type that open on the side and you stand next to the truck selling items. Anyways, we used to work the San Diego Sports Arena on concert nights. Huge business selling sodas & snacks to all the stoned people. After a Dio concert (1985) we were parked by the back drive in entrance where the gear, artists, employees go in. Fans congregate there to catch a glimpse of the artist. Eventually the cops made all the fans leave, but let us stay. We were selling to all the roadies & police officers. We were so busy I wasn't really looking at the customers.

1 chocolate pudding pie and 1 diet pepsi. That'll be $1.35. As I hand the change...IT'S DIO! I was froze. I watched him walk into the tour bus, sit down and start grubbing.

So I never really met him...but I sold him some snacks. Wish I had realized it was him sooner so I could have said hello, maybe shook his hand.

To this day, every time I see a chocolate pudding pie I think of Ronnie James.

Ronnie's not on my list of impending arrivals, so I'm sure he will be fine. Hey, I gotta keep one credible ambassador of unholiness up there, don't I? Ozzy sure as Heaven is no longer qualified for that job!

Ok, you will all think I'm nuts (probably already do) but I recall an interview
which may have been in "Circus" in the 80's with DIO. He was getting all
freaky and saying he felt he didnt have much longer left in this world.
Like he was gonna die ! Well that prediction was miles off...
Hopefully they got it early and can get him into his 80's !
I bet he would still sing the paint of a wall !

I was at Rising Force's first show in 1984, at the country club in reseda.

We're waiting for I think it was Vixen to get their junk off stage, jockeying for what was to be one helluva front-row, arms-on-stage / guitar side and holding that spot for dear life till Malmsteen starts position.. when everyone's arms raise up pointing at the balcony.

We're squinting, looking to see who was up there.. and like in the episode where Bugs Bunny imitates a conductor at the podium and everyone starts muttering "Leopold.. Leopold! (stokowski)" all the dudes start muttering "Dio.. Ronnie Dio. It's Dio!"

I swear everyone's arms raised up the horns and chanted Dio Dio Dio until the guy stood up, all smiles, and took a bow from the balcony horns out.

Apparently someone looked up at the right time and saw the guy getting his seat and the word spread that Ronnie "Poison Dwarf" Dio was up in the balcony.

Had a chance to meet with Ronnie in 1996, Angry Machines tour. Fuck of a nice cat. Me and my buddy were the last in line in the meet and greet, and he took the time to sign all of our shit and get our photos taken with him, just a super nice guy, very friendly, cordial...very rarely have I ever met a professional musician as kind, classy and purely fuckin' COOL as him.

Hoping he has a speedy recovery!

I had tickets to see the selfish cunt on Friday.

I'll have to make do with Alice Cooper tonight.

Get well soon, Ronnie...you're a class act.

Aw shit, that's not good. Doesn't specify what kind of cancer, but it does sound like they caught it early, so hopefully the prognosis is fairly positive.

    From his website:

Here is the latest update from Wendy Dio:

"Ronnie has been diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer. We are starting treatment immediately at the Mayo Clinic. After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs, doing what he loves best, performing for his fans.

Thanks to all the friends and fans around the world that have sent well wishes. This has really helped to keep his spirit up.

Long Live Rock and Roll, Long Live Ronnie James Dio"
