just really thought about this, I'm not so much paranoid at all, I highly doubt that there would be somebody like a terrorist with the nuclear know-how to do such a thing as other scenarios have sugguested. and really highly doubt that the we'd ever be nuked by a nation like China or Russia, but it begs the question, if such a thing happens how would things go?

to me, as a kid who was 6 months old when the Berlin wall came down, I seem fairly ignorant to how must people in previous generations prepared

I also believe, that if such an attack happened, I believe that the government and the country as a whole would morph into an increasingly dystopia existence. Perhaps, I'm incorrect in thinking, but I just picture if an event that was on that level of catastrophe occurred, there would be laws passed that would make the "Patriot Act" seem like it was written by the ACLU in comparison.

I'm inclined to think you're right. Transportation wouldn't exist outside of your own two feet, and I think lives would probably take on a pretty nomadic aspect. Raiding, robbing, looting and murder for supplies would become pretty commonplace, day to day activities. Law enforcement wouldn't be able to stop it, there'd be no public utilities or services...families would have to barricade their own houses and weapon up, venturing out to explore for food and water only and every trip out would be a possible trip that they wouldn't be coming back from.

The whole "Mad Max" aspect of a post apocalyptic world would probably look pretty nice in comparison. As far as any functioning government is concerned, I doubt seriously it'd be able to survive for long.

I guess it all kinda depends on the level of nuclear activity...too much and none of us are going to survive it anyway. Even if you did, you certainly wouldn't be happy about it. Just the amount of chemical activity in the air alone would not only prevent you from being able to go outside for years on end, but it would create you any number of diseases from being exposed to it (cancer jumps to mind).

If any kind of world war/holocaust scenario is the most likely, I'd think it would be akin to a "Red Dawn" type of scenario.

If such an attack happened now, the electromagnetic pulse disrupting all electronic communications would render society useless, since people can't seem to function without fondling some handheld gadget.

I do remember in the early 1980s the fear of a nuclear attack was at a fever pitch, in large part due to Ronald Reagan's rhetoric.

Don't think I'd really want to survive such an attack, myself.

Well again, it really depends on the how major of an attack it is,

if you're talking "Sum of all fears" level..I view that as something that would be rather as the moment that government the way the founders have seen it would probably go from decaying ever so slightly, to pretty much being dead within a matter of minutes. Also, I have this off feeling that the very second that plays out, we're likely blaming Iran. Doesn't matter where the bomb came from, that's who's getting blamed. Would be a major question to see America's reaction to such a thing, and whether or not the world would stand behind them.

if you're saying a "Red Dawn" scenario, I can only really see that happen if relations with china went extremely south and we began to do such a thing as limit trade with them or try to impact their oil supply. Perhaps, a similiar thing occurs if Putin's Russia wants to reach back to it's glory days of being the soviet union and something occured there, but even then I don't believe they would return to their complete red-menace form that they were up until Gorbi was in office.

If the US was ever invaded or taken over by an extremist government of some sorts, I don't think that would last too long, the military is of a decent size, and there's enough rednecks up in the boonies and other folks in other places that would probably fight them off.

The fellow 80's kids here will remember the TV movie "The Day After". Man, at the time that scared the shit out of everyone. Basically about nuclear war aftermath. Also the Matthew Broderick movie "War Games". We were constantly pumped with fear over the cold war with Russia.

I can tell you one thing is for sure, money, stocks, bonds, etc ain't gonna mean shit. Probably gold or silver will be helpful, although doubtful. Honestly, if you survive...just hope you have a nice stockpile of lead. As for me, my brother & I decided we will be the only ones on the freeway driving towards downtown San Diego come the big day. We wanna go out in a blast, rather than fall apart slowly over 6 months.

Saw a scenario on the show "Deadliest Warrior" where they speculated how a battle between N. Korean soldiers and American soldiers would go. Pretty much the scenario is that North Korea wants to take over the entire peninsula of Korea and reunify.

and it brought up an interesting thought to my mind, and a question to my our Non-American Roth Army members

If, IF, the US was attacked first via a nuclear weapon by Kim Jong Ill or his crazy ass son (this is assuming some how they've got something to actually say...hit like Honolulu). How supportive would the world be if the US retaliated in some way shape or form?

I ask this because I had noticed quite a bit of backlash from those in Europe over the War in Iraq 2003 on.

I seriously doubt the North Korean claims of their nuclear arsenal which I think probably doesn't amount to much at all and definitely nothing that affect anyone further than South Korea.

The one thing I keep remembering about N. Korea is the fact that people are barely fed over there.

I imagine those in the millitary don't get shit in regards to food in compared to those around the world.

You wouldn't want to invade it, in fact if recent history tells us anything, you wouldn't want to invade anywhere but I really don't think they are a huge threat.

Countries like NK and Iran are used as bogeymen for 2 reasons. Firstly because a huge public military industry oils the wheels of Washington and so needs threats to justify it and secondly a politician can never play down even a very small threat in case it happens which would then end their career. That's also why those threat level meters never reach green.
