The official california sports chatter thread

Since i did not anything for us cali sports fans, i fifgured i would do something about it.
So here is the place to discuss all things in california sports.

I sure hope the dodgers get their shit together.
San diego is in town for 3 and then san francisco in in for 3
    over the weekend.
Dodgers need to seriously sweep both these series.
6 games back going into the home strech of the season.
Now i'm sure padres and giants fans down south and up north in the bay would love nothing more than to "beat l.a.", but i hope the dodgers whip your asses!
Mean while, at least s.d. And s.f. Have a fucking football team!
L.A. really need a football team of our own.
an expansion team would be a good thing.
we had the l.a. lambs, but the took of to st. louis, and the raiders went back from whence they came.
oakland.........it's just not right not having football in the greater los angeles/anaheim area.

Why doesn’t LA have a football team? The most popular sport and the largest market seem like match made in heaven?

    see my first post.
rams moved to st.louis, and the raiders went back to oakland.
the other problem is a suitable venue.
thye rose bowl is off limits.
    dodger stadium won't allow it.
anaheim stadium is not longer suitable for football since the earthquake damage and the re-design.
the only usable place is the colisseum. unfortunately, it was built in 1932 for use in the olympics, and was used again for the 1984 olympics,
and the raiders played there during their time in l.a.
the thing is, it's old, and many earthquakes and age have done a lot of damage and erosion to it.
ever usc doesn't want to play there anymore.
the nfl, and usc, have both said the colisseum needs major retrofitting to even be remotely considered suitable for a possible expansion team.
usc is now telling city hall an ultimatum of "fix the colisseum or we won't play there anymore!"

so these have been the main sticking points for years.

I get that. Football is my favorite sport, so I remember LA had NFL teams in years past.

This info is what I was looking for. There’s no room in LA to build another venue to hold a NFL team? It makes no sense that the largest market doesn’t have a NFL team. It’s almost like LA is black balled, or something.

isn't the capacity of the LA Coliseum huge? as in, they won't sell out games and no sell outs means no game on local TV.

your thinking of the rose bowl.
the rose bowl has a capacity of 108,000.
but that is in alta dena.
the colisseum has a capacity of around 30 or 40 thousand.
the reason it doesn't sell out for football games is because it, and USC, are in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in
    los angeles.
    exposition park is gangbanger territory.
not exactly the best place to be-especially after dark.

    i found this:

The current official capacity of the Coliseum is 93,607

filling that would be tough, even with a good team. and i'm sure the Coliseum doesn't have the amenities that the modern stadiums have.

    .

Van Halens Monsters Of Rock in 1988 with Metallica, Scorpions, Dokken & Kingdom Come was at the LA Coliseum. They told us there were 82,000 people there. I'm just wondering how much capacity they gain by having seating on the field. A concert will hold more people than a football game. So your figure is probably maximum capacity for an event if all space possible is utilized.

i remember the tix sales were said to be down cos they were booking shows mid-week,and people were not really going to see the vanhanlers cos they were drifting out half way through there show, me thinks that this was probs the first time that audiences relized that vh were not so good anymore

figure what they lose behind and next to the stage (think obstructed view) they make up for with the floor seating. i'm not sure if they sell tickets beneath the big screens, i seem to remember the Supercross racers going up that side of the arena and jumping back down when they came in from outside.

and it can't be in too bad of a neighborhood, the X Games are going to be there soon.
