    ed's new wolfgang guitars

i was at garage center in san bernardino yesterday, and they had one up on the wall.
    it's the tobacco burst one.
fuck me, what an awesome guitar!
that damned thing has got wicked sick tone for fucking days!!!
i was screwing around with different pedals and it sounded stellar no matter what i did.
not to mention, it has a really great feel.
now i only wish i could fucking afford to buy the damned thing!

has anyone else here tried one of these guitars out, or bought one?
if so, what did you think of it?

I tried one. It felt like it was made for midgets. The neck felt like it is stuffed too far back into the body...

I already wasn't a fan of the body style, and if the neck feels anything like the MM and Peavey versions...no thanks.

i was at Guitarget and Sam Ash today, and didn't even think to look for one of 'em...which probably explains my previous post.

Have not seen one around here at all, would like to though, it'd be nice to try one out. Even if I don't like it, still nice to try guitars out. The Sam Ash by me carries his line of amps though, if I remember correctly. In store, I mean. I think i've seen the stacks in the corner right before the bass section... We have a small Sam Ash by us

Never liked the body style. If I had the cash to buy one of those, I would go buy another Gibson Flying V, or perhaps a Dean V or something else really cool.

The body style is awkward, I never really liked it but it's interesting. I always like the Peavey Wolfgang (and what would later become Peavey HP) guitar bodies.

I have one of the Peavey ones. I'm a Strat and SG guy but I found myself reaching for my Wolfgang more and more and it's pretty much my main guitar. It took some getting used to and the body is thick and no back cut but as I played it more and more I just grew into it. I love the neck. Ed once said you have to play one for a year before it breaks in and becomes like your favorite pair of worn jeans. He was right. The wiring is top notch and the pickup is a perfect mix of warm to high output. Back off the volume and it cleans right up and roll the volume full open and the wonderful overdrive comes back. It is real amp friendly as well.

That's what i've generally heard about them. I've also heard that, even though the Music Man models were stellar guitars, many players preferred the Peavey models.

If you have an arch top Wolfgang the neck has a slight back angle like a Gibson and it's nicer to play. The Musicman has a straight neck like a Strat. The Wolfgang is like you took the best of a Strat, Les Paul, and Telecaster and combined them all. The body is a big chunk of wood but that is where your sustain and tone is coming from and it's basswood so it's light. A lot of people don't like the big chunky body and the non-finished neck. They are business guitars. Not something to hang on the wall and admire, they are something to throttle, abuse, and wear on. The Wolfgang is no prom queen, it's more of a biker chick.

    Hey I gots a question:

How many "new" Wolfgang guitars is Special Ed gonna make? I mean, he has had how many varieties? Is he ever going to stop coming up with new designs and calling them all "Wolfgang"? That would be like Leo Fender deciding to call his Jazzmasters, Jaguars and Telecasters by the name "Stratocaster".

What is it with casters anyway?

What the fuck does a goddamn wheel have to do with a fucking guitar?

Leo Fender ran a radio and television store in Fullerton, California. He was a fan of country music and got into the guitar business originally making slide guitars and amps. He then took made a Spanish guitar using the same pickup used in the slide guitars. He then made a two pickup model with some improvements and named it the Telecaster after the televisions that were becoming all the rage in the 1950's and caster meant you produced music with it. You have to remember television was the new modern marvel and in the 1950's everyone was thinking the future big time. The Stratocaster was named after the Stratosphere where new jet aircraft and rockets were take us to and through. Of course the caster part was meant this futuristic marvel could cast or send the music you made on it through a cable to an amp for all to hear. You have to remember electric guitars then were made so the instrument could be heard while playing in a band with other instruments like drums and horns. The distortion came later. He did something right, people are using the same guitars a half century later.

a black dean "V" is actually what i am playing nowadays since my amp and cherry sunburst les paul exploded and burned up from the bad wiring in a certain venue i won't mention.
    totally beyond repair.
good thing i still had my old 120 watt solid state crate amp!
so i went out a few months back and got me a black dean flying v.
i hate the fucking factory settings, like how high the fucking action is, so i lowered it and had some other modifications done, and now i dig it very much.
i'll be playing it on stage sept. 4, 2010, at vibefest 2, opening for bleeding through, here in riverside, california.

You are so right. I got a Les Paul and some custom shop Fenders, but that thing man....it's close to perfection!
