Is Matt Leinart about to get cut?

Rumors are abound that Matt Leinart not only may not start for Arizona this year, but that he may not even make the team...in favor of...gasp...Derek Anderson...former starter for the Cleveland Browns.

Talk may be premature, but Anderson is starting this week, which may be an indicator that Leinart has lost favor, or never had it, with Ken Whisenhunt.

If he does get cut, is it time to put Leinart in with all the other busts? True, he was a #10 pick, but don't forget, he was all everything at USCheat...

...and certainly should be better than this...

Couldn't they have found a qb a little better than Derek Anderson to sign in the offseason? They went to the Super Bowl a couple of seasons ago, so you'd think they would try harder to find a top notch qb to replace Warner with to keep them in Super Bowl contention. I'm afraid the Cards are going to revert back to the losing Cards of old with Anderson as the starter.

I think they thought Leinart would develop with time...into something more than an egotistical prick...

...and I'm sure they thought Warner was going to play another season...

but unfortunately, his bull-dyke wife had the last say, and Warner was, sadly, slowly turning into a woman...whining and crying about injuries...

Leinart went 9 for 10 against the Bears the other day, while Anderson went 7 of 12. So technically, Leinart has a higher qb rating. How many months has it been since Warner announced his retirement? It's still mind boggling why Arizona didn't pick up a strong back up during the off season. Hell, anybody but Jeff George.

                      Brethren and Sistren,

Never go with a lefty... they generally can't read defenses and get blindsided in the NFL... Steve Young was the last Super Bowl winning lefty, and that was what, 1995/6?

Actually, I have no idea what I'm talking about, but fakk Leinhart...

                      That is all.

Well, it's official: Leinart is history at Arizona. Look, I can understand why the Dolphins parted ways with Pat White, a guy that was drafted for the flimsiest of reasons, mainly to fit in with the by now dated wildcat offense. (It's easier to name the teams that are NOT running a variation of it than it is to name those that are.) With Leinart, you have to figure that the Cards coaching staff saw something over the years that gave them severe doubt. It's just really strange that it took them until 4 days before the season's start to come to grips with the situation, other than dumping the guy to save money when no one in the league offered anything trade-wise and hiring a guy cut from Cleveland to be the starter.

Having seen enough, Cardinals cut Leinart

The Cardinals released Matt Leinart yesterday, parting ways with the former Heisman Trophy winner who was supposed to be the franchise quarterback but couldn’t escape the backup role.

Leinart played in 29 games for Arizona with 17 starts, and threw for 3,893 yards with 14 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He came into this season looking to finally prove himself after Kurt Warner retired.

Leinart started the first two preseason games but was mostly unimpressive. Coach Ken Whisenhunt switched Derek Anderson to starter the next two games as rumors swirled about Leinart’s future with the team and he complained to reporters about being left out of the loop.

“In fairness to Matt, I think that it would be a tough position for him to be in a backup role,’’ Whisenhunt said. “Maybe a fresh start for him is what would be a good thing, for all of us.’’

The Cardinals tried to trade Leinart but found no acceptable deal. By cutting Leinart, Arizona doesn’t have to pay him the $2.5 million he was due this season.
