Oh...I know...it just really depends on what Harbaugh wants to do. I can't express to you enough what it means to have a "Michigan Man" in there for the coaching job. It was the same at tOSU. And Harbaugh is exactly what they need...a motivator that runs a pro style offense.

He may want a pro job though...we'll just have to wait and see...but believe me...Michigan is talking to Harbaugh if they are planning to make a move, and if he leaves Stanford, and that's a big if, then Michigan would have to be at the top of the list.

I still say Cowher is lined up to take the Carolina job...all this other talk...is just that...talk...

It's about the relationship he'd have with the owner, and the control he'd have...which would be a lot...

Now...the only other job that I think could interest him...would be the Giants, and that could happen as well.

It's just odd the way these colleges seem to change their minds about direction every few years. Look at Miami, for instance. They brought in Shannon because he would straighten out the program and get rid of it's "Thug U" reputation. Plus he was an alum. So what does he do? Just what they asked. Only one arrest in his tenure, but a 28-22 record. So all of a sudden, wining is a priority, and he gets the boot.

I'll be willing to bet they go after Gruden, and if he starts wining, they'll sit back and be quiet, watching the crime rate rise for a few years. After a title or two, once again it will be time to make a change.

Harbaugh won't be at the Michigan function. In my mind, that implicates him even more as a candidate. I sure hope I am wrong.

Pojo and me were talking about this yesterday morning, when the rumors first started. Since then it has spread like wildfire, and the story is all over the local papers and sports radio here. Word has it Gruden met with UM's AD Kirby Hocutt Tuesday evening, and Gruden's brother Jay will serve as offensive coordinator.

TCU in the Rose Bowl vs Wisconsin....I like it.

Unless the Cocks stick it to Auburn, then what? Does Wisconsin jump over TCU and reach the NC game, or do the Frogs finally get a shot at the title?

I can't believe Oregon is going to make it to the title game. Oregon.

Wisconsin put a great season together this year. JJ Watt should be put in a fucking cage. He's an animal. But I have to mention that the Badgers let Mishitgan score 28 points where Ohio State only gave up 7.

If Wisconsin jumped TCU...oh boy...the fun and joy that that would bring. If TCU played Oregon, I'd back TCU.

I still say that TCU isn't as mid-major as say, Boise St. Am I the only one that remembers that less than 15 years ago, TCU was a member of the SWC, that included Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and SMU (when they were a power).

So while TCU was forced into a mid-major conference, and have had to live that life, this team has a tradition that goes beyond Boise St. TCU moving to the Big East is a natural progression. Hell, the Big Ten should have went after them...

Apparently not. According to sports radio here last evening (and today's local papers), the deal is off. It came down to money issues, as Gruden (rightfully) wanted carte blanche in putting a staff together. The fact is, he can make more money in the booth for ESPN than on the sidelines for a college team. Besides, he hasn't coached college ball for something like 20 years, and never as a head coach.

My guess is that he'll bide his time as the NFL season winds down and see what's open then, or wait another year.

I've assumed that, unless Holmgren decides he wants to coach again (which I don't think he will), Gruden would be in line to coach the Browns if Mangini gets the axe.

he's a Holmgren guy, grew up in Ohio as a Browns fan, etc

I don't think Wisconsin would jump TCU. a big chunk of voters have the mid-major bug this year. I think some of it is just wanting to upset the apple cart.

now, if BOTH Auburn and Oregon lose...

    maybe.

I can't see Stanford getting in no matter what, because they can't pass Oregon (even with a Duck loss). I don't know why they don't pass a rule that requires a team to win their conference.

I agree with you on the TCU being more "legit" than Boise St., and a big reason that the voters have a "mid-major bug", as DGT put it, is because of both TCU and Boise's record over the last few years..hard to ignore, even if they didn't really play anyone. I think TCU beat Boise last year in the Fiesta Bowl?

    no. Boise won last year.

Let's see if the Cocks or the Beavers can pull the upset today.

if so, it should make for some interesting discussion between tonight and tomorrow's selections.

Wisconsin is representing all 6 BCS leagues in Pasadena this year (well, actually 5 of them, since the Big Least is adding TCU).

Time for the Badgers to roll up 45 or 50 on 'em.

Yeah, we saw this last year. Much like Brett Favre, I'll believe it when the season is underway and he isn't on the sideline, let alone within thirty miles of the stadium. Wanna bet he tries to hitch up again with Tebow in Denver?

Don't worry, I'm sure he'll have a "change of heart" in a couple of months and be back next year, attention whore that he is.

Text SizeAAACHICAGO -- It'll be the Leaders vs. the Legends divisions when the Big Ten stages its first football championship game next season.

The conference also on Monday unveiled a new logo -- it is a block "Big Ten" with the numeral 10 embedded in the word last two letters of Big -- as well as two-person trophy names for 18 new football awards, including the Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy and the Hayes-Schembechler Coach of the Year. The new logo, made up of light blue letters on a white background, is meant to update the expanded league's look.

With Nebraska becoming the conference's 12th team earlier this year, the conference created new divisions that it introduced in September. Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin will be in the Leaders Division, with Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern in the Legends Division.

    eh....

Brilliant. A brand spanking new logo, with the WRONG amount of teams signified. And the Big "10" expects people to respect them...

Yeah, that makes a huge amount of sense. The last several years they have had 11 teams and called themselves the Big 10, and had 11 embedded in the logo. Now that they have 12 teams in the conference, they have reduced the number in the logo to 10? WTF? Wouldn't it make more sense for the Big 12 and the Big 10 to trade names since the Big 12 is going to be 10 teams and the Big 10 is going to be 12 teams next year?

Anyway, the Big 10 unveiled a new logo Monday. We don't want to suggest that they were ripped off, but you could blindfold a kindergartner, spin the little fella around 25 times, hand him a crayon and he'd draw something better on the wall.

Or he'd puke on the floor, which would also be every bit as original.

Reportedly, the logo was spit up - er, out - by Pentagram, a design company with offices in London, San Francisco, New York, Berlin and Big 12 hotbed Austin, where we suspect they're getting a big-as-Texas yuck today.

i think i love this cuban guy.....

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...n=ncaaf-296649

"Put $500 million in the bank and go to all the schools and pay them money as an option," Cuban said. "Say, 'Look, I'm going to give you X amount every five years. In exchange, you say if you're picked for the playoff system, you'll go.'"
    […]
"[The BCS is] an inefficient business where there's obviously a better way of doing it," Cuban said. "The only thing that's kept them from doing it is a lack of capital, which I can deal with. …"

It’s humbling, to say the least, because we’re trying to build fan bases, not push them away.

    Delaney is a putz.

Big Ten could revisit division names

    Story Highlights
Jim Delany says the Big Ten may consider renaming its new divisions
'Legends and Leaders' has generated overwhelmingly negative feedback
Delany: 'To get a 90 percent non-approval rating was ... really surprising'

CHICAGO (AP) -- Jim Delany has spent more than two decades as commissioner of the Big Ten, overseeing two conference expansions and the formation of the Big Ten Network.

None of it prepared him for the overwhelmingly negative reaction to the conference's new division names.

Delany said during an interview with WGN AM-720 in Chicago on Thursday that the names Legends and Leaders were picked to highlight the conference's rich history, and that "to a great extent it's fallen on deaf ears." Many fans have instead mocked the names and asked officials to reconsider, which Delany said could happen after the first of the year.

"I think we have enough experience with names, and expansion and development of divisions, to know that you never, rarely, get 90 percent approval rating," Delany said during the interview. "But to get a 90 percent non-approval rating was, you know, really surprising."

The league will be split into two divisions beginning next season, when Nebraska becomes the 12th member. The Huskers will be joined by Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Iowa in the Legends Division. Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin will comprise the Leaders Division.

At least, assuming those are still the names by then.

"We want to breathe a little bit," Delany said. "I don't think you make a judgment in 48 hours or 72 hours. Eventually we're going to have to address the issue of whether or not it's sustainable, but I don't think that's an issue for today."

Delany said the conference chose the divisions based on parity, rather than geography, which made naming them East-West or North-South impractical. The Big Ten also considered using names of historic players or coaches, but Delany said that would have been "too limiting."

The commissioner also said there was little consideration given to changing the conference name from the Big Ten, unlike in 1990, when Penn State became the 11th member.

Delany said university faculty, presidents and alumni supported keeping "Big Ten" and that it represents a brand rather than the number of institutions. The name change also would have affected the branding of the Big Ten Network, which launched in 2007.

"It's humbling, to say the least, because we're trying to build fan bases, not push them away," Delany said of the uproar caused by the new division names. "I was surprised. I've been around this business a long time, and it's one of the more surprising things."

Here are the top ten spending universities with regard to their football programs:

    Top 10 spenders:
    1. Ohio State, $31,763,036
    2. Alabama, $31,118,134
    3. Notre Dame, $29,490,788
    4. Auburn, $27,911,713
    5. LSU, $25,566,520
    6. Florida, $24,457,557
    7. South Carolina, $22,794,211
    8. Wisconsin, $22,041,491
    9. Arkansas $22,005,014
    10. TCU $20,609,361

There's a couple of interesting teams in there. First...there's Notre Dame...how funny is that.

Second...there's TCU...tenth in the country. People calling the former SWC member a mid-major team is kidding themselves. Sure, they play shit teams...but that college has the capital to bring in top prospects...year after year.

To put it more into perspective...here's the schools that pay the most per underclassmen that attends the school:

    1. Notre Dame, $3,531
    2. Tulsa, $3,236
    3. TCU, $2,822
    4. Stanford, $2,625
    5. SMU, $2,113
    6. Miami (FL), $1,927
    7. Boston College, $1,891
    8. Northwestern, $1,851
    9. Arkansas, $1,625
    10. Auburn $1,518

There's fucking Tulsa and TCU again...

Is it really a surprise that they are good year after year?

    Now...how about Boise St.:

Boise State, meanwhile, looks like a bargain. The underdog Broncos stayed in contention for the national title all year with a program that spends a fraction of what the big boys do. The tab: $6.85 million for an average of $564 a student for a program that ended up winning the MAACO Bowl this year.

    10-7...

If Washington wins this game...I would be shocked. I would love for Locker to somehow recreate the momentum he had last year...for the draft this year...

He really hurt himself this year...but I think he'll be a good one, and someone will get him on the steal later than he should go...
