"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."
It's not a surprise...but I don't think that anyone thought Young AND Fisher would be gone.
Hmmmm...will Cowher's name come up?
Hoofuckingray!
Now I can keep Chris Johnson!
Fuck Fisher!
Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!

I could see him winding up with the Bears next season.
this season just seemed to be one of those fluke seasons for them, and Lovie Smith was on the hotseat.
It's strange. From what I've gathered from the blogs at SI.com and ESPN, there will be a work interruption during training camp, but the games will still be played. So whatever takes place, it more than likely will disrupt any organized form of getting ready for the season. Adding on a new coach and staff would certainly make things far more complicated, so you'd have to believe that the astute owners would either promote from within or hang on to a coach, even if it means taking a step sideways or even backward, like with the Bengals. Then again, the last word I'd use to describe Cincinnati's ownership is "astute".
I guess the Browns wern't dumb per say, as to hiring shurmer, as this season could be a lost one regardless.
I think it'll be another slight rebuilding year regardless and putting more of Holmgren's plan into the works, allowing them to focus more on getting good by 2012 and possibly making a run then.
BTW, for some reason I get the vibe that Gruden gets the phins gig, if they decide to shitcan sparano.
Believe me, that entire issue is a can of worms right now. The offensive line is a mess, we have one receiver, two banged up running backs and no quarterback. We hired an O coordinator who performed on a team for the past two years ranked worse than us, nobody knows what to do about the defense, and the team owner appears equally clueless, having gone after new coaching prospects with the old coach still on the payroll. The team is trying to put a good face on an ugly situation, issuing press releases and interviews with both Sparano and Jeff Ireland, but you can see right through it. And signing both of them to two year extensions seems more likely to have been done to save embarrassment more than any belief in their abilities.
The deal with UM seeking Gruden was baloney, with Gruden asking for an absurd amount of money and conditions that couldn't have been met. This points to him wanting to stay with the NFL. But really, after what I described above, would you want to work here?
Gruden would be a good hire for the Fins but I don't see Gruden giving up his studio gig unless it is for full control and BIG money, I don't see the Fins doing that, they will likely target Morning-fag.
Owners have canceled meetings after players ask for 50% of all revenue. Owners want 50% after 2 Billion comes off the top. 2 Billion dollars apart?!?! This could get really ugly.
I agree with kwame. A deal will get done.

Eventually we all know a deal will get done, it just worries me that they are so far apart. I am a football junky, I'll go crazy without the NFL! It sounds like the draft will go on as usual, its after the draft that everything will come to a standstill until they hammer out an agreement. If you ask me the owners already get 1 billion off the top under the current agreement, meet in the middle and give them 1.5 and stop the bitching. Players are overpaid, the owners wipe their ass with money and it would be absolutely ridiculous to cost the fans any part of the coming season. When shit like this happens it takes a very long time to get all the fans back, if they ever do so all they would really be doing is fucking themselves (owners and players) by making the pool of money they are talking about smaller to begin with. Greedy fuckers anyway.
Last I checked, it's February, so this isn't a big deal. Now if this was September...
Yeah....I'm thinking they'll take it down to the last minute, too!
I found this funny...
Holy shit! 2 billion?!?! I don't pay attention to football that much, I had no idea it was that kind of money...
Dude, that's not even half of it.....2 billion is just off the top and then they want to split 50/50.
110 million viewers for the past SB.......this is big time money.

Sorry to the one million viewers I excluded.......111 million people watched the last SB.
Tell ya what, let's merge the CBA talks into the overall NFL thread and just rename it to the offseason thread....

Works for me, should be the 2011 Offseason thread though
Picky picky... I fixed it...
Nah....I don't like it, change it back
Speaking of overpaid.......................................... .
Defensive lineman Richard Seymour has agreed to a two-year extension with the Raiders that will make him the highest-paid defensive player in football, a team source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Bears defensive end Julius Peppers makes an average of $14 million per year and while Seymour's exact numbers will not be known until he signs the deal, the numbers will come in north of Peppers'.
SI.com first reported Seymour's extension. The website said that Seymour's contract is potentially worth $30 million and contains $22.5 million guaranteed.
The 31-year-old defensive end went to the Pro Bowl last season, making a big impact in his second season in Oakland after being acquired in a trade from New England. He had 5½ sacks and provided leadership for a young defense that features two rookies starting in the front seven.
The Patriots own the Raiders' first-round pick (17th overall) in the 2011 draft as a result of the Seymour trade.
Seymour played last season under the $12.398 million franchise tag.
"It's a great place to play," he said last December. "The fans are unlike any others in the league. They're definitely committed, and they want the same type players to play in this organization. The history of being here, the mystique of putting that silver and black on and representing the Raiders, it's been a lifelong dream for me and, hopefully, it continues."

Good player but damn, seems like they would have ponied up for some younger players.
Lots of guys getting franchised, Peyton, Vick, Ngata, Vincent Jackson, David Harris, sounds like Woodley will get franchised soon. Also, Dick LeBeau said Tuesday he will be back for a 10th season as the Pittsburgh Steelers' defensive coordinator. Now if they could just get this little CBA thing taken care of we will be all set.
Lions will lose draft pick for tampering with Chiefs
http://www.freep.com/article/2011021...mpering-Chiefs
Martin Mayhew’s rebuilding job just got a little bit more difficult.
The Detroit Lions have been found guilty of tampering with Kansas City Chiefs players and will lose a pick in April's draft, according to an NFL statement released by the team.
The Lions will forfeit their seventh-round pick, acquired from the Broncos as part of the Alphonso Smith-Dan Gronkowski trade and also will swap fifth-round picks with the Chiefs. Already, the Lions were without a sixth-round choice.
The tampering charges revolved around defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, comments he made to the Free Press about the Lions' interest in acquiring unnamed Kansas City players still under contract last year, and "impermissible contact" the Lions had with safety Jarrad Page (or his agent).
Cunningham, who used to coach in Kansas City, said last year the Chiefs “keep wanting to dump players. I would like to be there to catch a lot of them, because I know a couple of those guys.”
Page, a restricted free agent last year, missed training camp in a contract dispute and eventually was traded to the Patriots.
The Chiefs filed tampering charges against the Lions, and the matter was determined following a review and hearing, the statement said.
By swapping picks, the Lions now select 23rd in the fifth round while the Chiefs select ninth.
The Lions, who declined comment on the NFL’s decision, have until Feb. 28 to file an appeal, declined further comment but can file an appeal.
Fucking cheaters!!!
Colts cut Bob Sanders, damn, he was a bad ass the few games he was healthy lol. Wouldn't mind the Lions giving him a shot if he would come cheap.
Dave Duerson found dead at 50
http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nf...ory?id=6135463
Dave Duerson, a starting safety on the 1985 Chicago Bears team that won the Super Bowl, was found dead in his Miami home, the team said Friday. He was 50.
Miami-Dade Police Detective Robert Williams says the body of a Dave Duerson was found Thursday in Sunny Isles Beach, Fla. Computer records show that the Duerson who lived at the address was born the same month and year as the player.
Investigators have not determined the cause of death. Williams says detectives are awaiting the medical examiner's report.
"Our family asks that you please remember Dave as a good, kind, and caring man," Duerson's ex-wife, Alicia Duerson, said, according to NBCChicago.com. "He loved and cherished his family and friends and was extremely proud of his beloved Notre Dame and ... Chicago Bears. Please keep Dave and our family in your prayers."
The Bears selected Duerson in the third round of the 1983 draft after an All-America career at Notre Dame.
He became a full-time starter for the 1985 "Super Bowl Shuffle" team that was known for its dominating defense. That team finished the regular season 15-1 and had two shutouts in the playoffs before dismantling the Patriots 46-10 in the Super Bowl.
"We really liked him a lot," former Bears coach Mike Ditka said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "That was the year that Todd Bell and [Al] Harris held out. [Duerson] stepped right in and became a starter at the strong safety position and was outstanding. Did a great, great job."
He was selected to four Pro Bowls from 1986 to 1989. He had seven sacks and six interceptions in 1986.
"We are stunned and saddened to hear the tragic news regarding Dave Duerson," the Bears said in a statement. "He was a great contributor to our team and the Chicago community. Today is a difficult day for all of us who loved Dave. We'll miss him. Our prayers are with his family."
Duerson left the Bears after the 1989 season and was part of the 1990 New York Giants team that also won a Super Bowl.
He played three more seasons for the Cardinals before retiring at age 33. He finished with 20 interceptions in his career.
After football, Duerson owned Brooks Sausage Company, later called Fair Oaks Farms, which supplied sausage to fast-food restaurants. He sold the business in 2002.
Duerson was born and raised in Muncie, Ind., where he was a standout in football, baseball and basketball. He earned a degree in economics from Notre Dame.
Emery Moorehead, a tight end on the '85 team, said: "He was a man's man. Smoked cigars. Just a personable guy. ... He had a lot of people that loved him everywhere."
"Our hearts go out to the Duerson family and to all those who knew Dave," Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said in a statement. "In addition to being a great football player, Dave represented himself and the University in so many other ways as a team captain, as well as through his work with the Monogram Club and the Board of Trustees. You couldn't help but be impressed by him when you met Dave Duerson, and I think that was the reaction from anyone who was ever around him."
Ray Ellis, the sports channel director at Voice America Sports, where Duerson had a weekly radio show streamed live over the Internet, said he tried reaching Duerson on Thursday when he didn't host his regular program.
Friday morning, a friend informed Ellis of Duerson's death.
"If you looked at him visually, Dave Duerson looked like he could play strong safety today," Ellis said.
He added that Duerson recently told him he'd gotten engaged and planned to marry in late spring or early summer.
Ellis said Duerson's show wasn't typical sports talk. He talked about a range of subjects and liked to highlight athletes' accomplishments and good work off the field.
"There was so much more to Dave than being a former Chicago Bear," Ellis said. "Dave took pride in his accomplishments off the field."
Sanders went to high school at Erie Cathedral Prep, which Pojo and I know very well (the fuckers....All-boys Catholic school, basically recruits the best athletes from around the area)
Seeing him in a Steelers uniform would be very interesting.... If he could ever stay healthy, that is....
