He seems more mature than Zakk when he first joined Ozzy.

He's pretty good, kinda like Jake Zakk and Randy all rolled into one...

He's not the Musician Randy was, but he did his homework learing the material...

I don't really hear an individual stamp on his playing - could be anyone playing the really fast, technical stuff. Maybe he'll develop it as time progresses...

I'd agree with that statement. He's good -no doubt- but not great, y'know? And the tunes were pretty much done when he got the gig, so maybe if Ozzy continues to release studio albums, he'll take it to another level when HE starts writing the tunes. Y'know, if they LET him.

Sorry, guess I'm guilty of assuming the casual reader here has (like me, lol) a basic grasp of music theory (but forgot for a sec it was in House of Music, NOT Gear St...oopsie)....

Hmm...lemme see here...the opening lick (phrase, whatevs) is this descending octave pattern based on some sort of pattern based on intervals...

Nah, that didn't really simplify it, huh? Mmmm...beer.

IMO he's more like Zakk and Jake rolled into one, since he'd apparently hadn't heard the Randy versions of the tunes prior to getting the gig...he kinda sounded like a Zakk clone in the first clips I saw, but I'd be interested to hear his interpretations of the material now that he's had a chance to discover the master.

Since Randy's passing Ozzy's music has lacked some originality and the classical undertones of Randy's approach to writing. (which I thought put his first 2 albums head and shoulders above most). It'd be cool to see Gus lock into Randy's approach to writing music other than simply churning out riffs that are similar to what other bands of today would write....
