    Setlist for the 2012 tour

Some idiot over at links posted a dream setlist for a Van Hagar reunion tour. What a bunch of irrelevant BS! So, with that in mind , I wanted to get you guys thoughts on what you would like to see as a setlist for the next real Van Halen tour. Here's mine-

    Eruption
    Light Up The Sky
    Panama
    On Fire
    Somebody Got Me A Doctor

Dave welcomes audiance and intros new song-

    New Song
    Unchained
    Cathedral
    Secrets
    Romeo Delight
    Dance The Night Away
    Sinner's Swing!

Al Solo- Short Drum Solo Leading Into-

    Hot For The Teacher
    New Song
    Intruder
    Pretty Woman
    And The Cradle Will Rock
    Jamie's Cryin'

Dave solo -Ice Cream Man - short version-Dave solo on accoustic
Take Your Whiskey Home -intro -Dave solo on accoustic
then joined by rest of band when song kicks in

    Take Your Whiskey Home
    Little Guitars
    Drop Dead Legs
    Beautiful Girls
    Runnin' With The Devil

Eddie Solo- Short Solo leading into-

    Mean Street
    New Song
    House Of Pain
    Happy Trails
    You Really Got Me

    1st Encore
    Bottems Up
    Jump

    2nd Encore
    Everybody Wants Some
    Ain't Talkin Bout Love

I would like to see them keep the solos short and see Eddie incorporate more into the song intros(Intruder, Cathedral etc.) I also want to see some songs that they didn't do on the last tour and a handful from the new album.

    Agreed.

Perhaps 23 to 28 tunes...and even that is a bit ambitious.

House of Pain has to be on the next Tour ; it's such an excellent concert song.
Drop-Dead Legs would be interesting live, and of course most of the classics that were not done last time round...

It's difficult to make a setlist for the upcoming tour, I mean you cannot please anyone, but this would be my favourite concert :

    [SIZE="3"]
    Unchained
    Hot for teacher
    short bass solo-Runnin'with the devil
    Dance the night away
    'Dave's 'Rap'- New Song
    Hear about it later
    short guitar solo-House of pain
    You're no good
Where have all the good times gone!
    New Song
    Mean street
    Panama
    Fools!
    New Song
    short drum solo-Everybody wants some
    Dirtie Movies
    Beautifull Girls
    Me wise magic
    You really got me

    1st encore - New Song
    Jump

    2nd encore - Bottoms up!
    Ain't talkin'bout love/Happy Trails

Ok, I know, no Pretty Woman, Ice cream man, Little dreamer, Atomic punk etc etc, otherwise : 6 songs they've never played live and a couple of
tunes we've not heard live for a very long long time.

add a couple more new songs and it could be a two nite show
Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!

It seems like alot but clocks in at 2-2.5 hours because alot of the songs are short. Some bands do play that long. It is all wishful thinking anyway.

It's nice that we can even talk about a new setlist, as far as I'm concerned...

But let's critique, shall we ??

    - Eruption to START the show ? That dog ain't huntin'..... IMHO, they need to get Unchained back to the top of the show....

    - You'll never see On Fire in concert again. Dave simply doesn't have the pipes for that anymore....

Other than that, like the others have said, it's way too long... UNLESS they put an intermission in there, like Rush has done recently..... Then you might see a longer setlist....

Cut the solos and I don't really care what they play...ANYTHING from CLASSIC VAN HALEN gets my vote...

Hell...they could play DIVER DOWN...front to back...& I'd be out of my mind....

Just...No BASS solo...NO DRUM solo...play ERUPTION...and get on with it....

These tunes, it'd be safe to say, are pretty much a given for any hypothetical future tour dates a la VH w/ Roth:

    Jump
    Unchained
    Running With The Devil
    Dance The Night Away
    Ice Cream Man
    Everybody Wants Some!!
    Panama
    Ain't Talking 'Bout Love
    Jamie's Crying
    Beautiful Girls
    Romeo Delight

That's about half a concert right there.

Beyond those signature, ultra popular classic tunes (am not saying I'd personally miss the band not playing Jump, but realistically they're gonna play it, and probably most of the others above as well) there's a lot of room for mixing up the setlist.

Any of the following could be inserted and the band could probably pull them off:

    Secrets
    Hear About It Later
    Sinner's Swing!
    DOA
    Girl Gone Bad
    House Of Pain
    Feel Your Love Tonight
    Drop Dead Legs
    Somebody Get Me A Doctor
    Dirty Movies
    Push Comes To Shove
    Take Your Whiskey Home
    In A Simple Rhyme

That's around 25 tunes, and even that would be a stretch.

Yes, yes, there are the tunes like Little Dreamer, I'm The One, Meanstreet, Atomic Punk, but the band already did those last time around.

There's tunes I'd really like to hear from them live again, like On Fire...Outta Love Again...Light Up The Sky...vocally, they have either too many screams for Roth to even hope of pulling off, or in the case of Light Up The Sky the verses have too many words for Roth to be expected to reasonably pull off before keeling over.

I'd really love to hear "Drop Dead Legs" on the next tour. The fact that Eddie brought that one out for soundchecks during the Velveetapalooza 2004 tour (when Cheddar Man wasn't around) seems to indicate he still has some interest in playing the song - which never got an official live performance, to my knowledge.

Only problem is that the harmonies of one Michael Sobolewski are featured rather prominently in that song. How do they pull it off without him?

Well, the Atomic Punks did alright with it.......

What I'd like to see them do is stifle whatever personal and business issues exist with Mike Anthony, get him back into the fold, and do a proper reunion tour. Then release the CVH "vaulted" material.

    Seriously.

In truth, I can't really say I'm all that interested in any new music from the band anymore. The interviews Ed's given in the last decade, taken as a whole, betray an attitude of being content to rest on his past glories. Truth be told, methinks even as early as the mid 1980s Ed had so many accolades about his playing (deservedly so) heaped upon him to the point where all that success dulled his drive. The man just doesn't have the fire and desire.

I'd agree that any new tour, Anthony or not, should at the very least mix up the setlist a bit from the last tour. The sad reality is that the proposition of a Van Halen tour these days, much like any movement from the band, is no longer a guarantee to be as pleasing as it was by default back in their heyday (1978-1984). A hundred bucks a pop the last time around to see an aging, drunken former guitar hero playing under par was a bit saddening for me to witness, and not something that endears me to get all that psyched up when a wave of internet rumors start making their way around this site. This band has perhaps reached the point where the performance isn't living up to the hype.

I thought Eddie played well the show I saw (Greensboro)..Dave vocals were above par..Agree they will never measure up to their heyday...
But I think they are capable of putting out a cd worthy of listening to without skipping a tune.

As far as a tour..definately lower the ticket prices..honestly..dont give a shit if MA is on board..but if he wants to show up and play a bit..no problem.

There's a lot of acts touring whole albums - classic albums. I'd prefer to see that than the usual 'greatest hits' kind of deal. Play WACF and FAIR WARNING top to bottom, then some kind of break and then the new album - if they have one. Might clock in at 100-110 mins.

No solos - not even Eruption. He's played that to death and it'll never have the explosive quality of the recorded version, and playing it again can only show how much his powers have waned. I only ever want to hear it again as cut two on VAN HALEN.

I only put 3 "new" songs in my preferred set list because rarely does any band have more than 3 good songs on a new album at this stage of the game. I could be wrong, but I am not anticipating the second coming of Fair Warning here.

I know that they typically play around 90 minutes and it's kinda long but I thought as long as we are dreaming might as well dream big. I also could do without the mega drum and guitar solos. I would rather see Eddie incorporate some of that into the show(Intruder, Cathedral, etc.) and I thought it might be interesting to see Eruption at the start of the show instead of the usual noodling but that is just my opinion. I do like the intermission and entire album ideas that some have mentioned. So, with that in mind I am revising my setlist. Here is another idea...

    ERUPTION
    LIGHT UP THE SKY
    PANAMA
    NEW SONG
    ON FIRE
    CATHEDRAL/SECRETS
    DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
    SHORT DRUM SOLO/HOT FOR TEACHER
    NEW SONG
    ICE CREAM MAN-DAVE SOLO ACCOUSTIC
    TAKE YOUR WHISKEY HOME
    LITTLE GUITARS
    NEW SONG
    RUNNIN WITH THE DEVIL

    ***INTERMISSION

    FAIR WARNING ALBUM-
    SHORT EDDIE SOLO/MEAN STREET
    DIRTY MOVIES
    SINNERS SWING
    HEAR ABOUT IT LATER
    UNCHAINED
    PUSH COMES TO SHOVE
    SO THIS IS LOVE
    SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN THE PARK
    ONE FOOT OUT THE DOOR
    1984/JUMP

    ENCORE1
    INTRUDER/PRETTY WOMAN
    EVERYBODY WANTS SOME

    ENCORE2
    HOUSE OF PAIN
    HAPPY TRAILS
    AINT TALKIN BOUT LOVE

Awesome ideas, hard to choose from so many for a dream set. I agree with leaving "jump" out, never enjoyed that song, first time I heard it I thought it was way too pop. House of pain instead!!!!!

They'll finally put some Fagar tunes in the mix but it'll be a really short set:

    Sucker in a 3 Piece
    You're No Good
    Not Enough ($$$ that is...)
(You Hopefully) Won't Get Fooled Again
    ENCORE:
    The Dream is Over
    Big Fat Money
    Happy Trails

Gone Bald but Have a Goatee and Sunglasses ('Cause There Ain't Nuthin Else Left For Me)
You Won't Ever See Me with (these) Clowns Again

A fine show indeed ( Although I won't mention the "jump" debacle)...when Dave shed a tear during the break in "I'm The One" I almost shed a tear myself.
