continuation = in what way?
A large lit band marquee above the drum riser?
A loud backline of amps?

You should be popping open the champaign. The asshole you so hate got what was coming to him and he's no longer polluting the planet. Dime is dead but yet Gar is still unhappy. Go get drunk, find a whore and celebrate. He's dead! The scum bag is dead and he can't pen anymore of the lyrics that so disturbed you.
What we have here as usual is another "consensus opinion" (shared by all the real guitarists that post here) and one bitter, jealous, sucked-so-bad-he-quit playing years ago hater's dissenting opinion. Which doesn't count.
Dimebag rocked.
But to be honest. You are just jealous that some simpleton from Texas made it and you didn't. I bet you were happy as hell to hear he got killed but then you get angry because Dime's legacy is still alive and kicking and his playing and originality still get respect.
Hey now, I didn't put on makeup and lipstick during the Glam days so I certainly wasn't willing to be a grungy de-tuned dirthead beardy-faced flannel fucker, either.
No regrets! I moved to Hollywood, cramped it up in small apartments with the band, hung out in clubs and studios, wrote music, competed the best I could. When you're gone and buried, what do you leave behind but a body of work to say "this was me" right? Worst thing is not having tried.
So please, be brave and go ahead and initiate me to this great body of work Dimebag Darrel left behind that says he's a successor to the Van Halen style, because not only did he do very little leadwork, very little of THAT was inventive and unique of itself.
I suspect that if I had paid any attention whatsoever to the rise and fall of Pantera during that Age of Grunge, I'd be qualified to elevate that statement to say "none of THAT" was inventive or unique at all. But to be fair, I haven't heard all the Pantera and hold firm in the belief that if you don't have a great impact in your first few albums, you won't be regarded as a legacy.
So to me its' great Dimebag thoght Ed's sound was great, but anyone with a brain knows that. Leave it to the marketing gurus to hold this guy up as some kind of legacy though, because he's CERTAINLY a character.
Dimebags best charachterization would be for laundry soap.. he would have sold a lot of Zest with an image like his.
This is the "Dimebag loved the Brownsound" thread, but I don't see many of you Abbot apologists posting any comparisons.
I do see a lot of "he was great cuz I say so" and "you're just jealous."
I'm paying attention - edumacate me! What did Abbot do that was so groundshatteringly great? I wanna know!
"Shredding during an era when shredding was verboten" not good enough for ya?
Here's a news flash, Garfunkel...
Dime was a great guitarist with his own style who worshipped original Van Halen...
'Nuff said...
Wow, newsflash! I get it finally "Dimebag loved VH" and tried to emulate Ed.. it's like I found religion!
Unfortunately, Dimebag also loved too much food, drugs, booze and disturbed music to style over (in that order).
OK, that's funny...a guy who's by his own admission overweight talking about someone "loving food too much"...pot (belly) meet kettle...
I'm not the one going out onstage.
Wel,l if Dime did love the brown sound, he certainly did not try to emulate it.
Thanks, Les!
Dime used solid-state Randalls on the recordings he's known for, because he was a cheap-ass. They had MOSFET transistors which have clipping characteristics more like tubes than pure-silicon transistors, but still not really tube and not a really warm sound.
His speakers weren't greenbacks, either. Alot of the warmth of the Brownsound is in the character of the speaker's sensitivity range which is why Dime's tone was kinda limited and muffled - buzzy, really IMO.
Apparently he didn't love the brownsound's "sound" enough to use the quite-available components required for such a sound.
He loved Eddie's tone but specifically didn't try to emulate it. He set out to find his own.
Here's the video of his visit to the Krank factory, after he'd switched to their (TUBE) amps.
As he says here "Roll with it or get rolled the fuck over."
Here's Dime ripping as a teenager...
Wow, nice admission "I've always been a solid-state kinda guy" up to "so I said to the old lady 'call up Krank and see if they'll shoot an amp over for me to look over' ."
Oh also "I'd never been a tube amp guy cuz I thought that was all ACDC to the lower gain ZZ Top kinda stuff. I didn't think you could get this kinda gain without it being solidstate."
Yeah Dime paid so much to VH's brown sound he didn't know what was up with his amps, even though he apparently knew EVH and knew Ed plays Marshalls and his own signature TUBE amps.
The only reason he went with Krank that year was for free swag. Marshall woudln't touch him because Pantera was done and he knew they'd ask "what band are you doing now?" because the answer would be "well my brother and i are doing a Pantera tribute band touring bars in Texas where I'm probably gonna get shot by some depressed, crazy loon fan inside of a year from now."

The only free swag Dime got was from Zakk.
I don't believe it that.
Dime had his own tone.....and chops for miles....2 qualities the vast majority of guitarist would kill for....
A bunch of major label releases...and 4 indie records.....
not bad for a skinny kid from Pantego......
I dig the 'ol "Brown Sound" too....but that was 30+ YEARS AGO......
Peeps need to strive to find their own identity...rather than being a clone of a guy who's best work was during the Reagan administration.....
DIME's influence is all over modern metal...and will be for years to come
Exactly.
Anyone who is, has been or ever really was a true "guitarist" that doubts that or attempts to dispute that fact completely has their head up their ass, sorry. Not an opinion, a statement of fact to anyone with a functional brain and set of ears. Might not be the style or tone everyone appreciates, but you can't dispute his abilities, or accomplishments.
In fact, the entire troll theme here is summed up in his own idiotic post.
Those who can, DO. Those who can't, bitch. Usually from a library.
So I take it that: if you hate on Deadbag Darryl, the terrorists win..
hey, i may do my posting from a library, but at least i am still going out and performing as often as i can afford to do shows.....
let's not kid ourselves, putting on a show costs quite a bit of money.
pay to play system is a bitch, but it's all there is in my neck of the woods..............better than nothing, at least i get to play a live show now and again.
also, i've made 4 records of my own, and each has a totally different guitar sound and tone, as i have done experiementing with different guitars, eq settings, pedals, effects, different amps and amp presets, pre-amps.....i've tried several different configurations and set-ups over the years
looking for my sound, and i still have not found one i am completely in love with that i am ready to make my own for all eternity.......more tinkering is sure to come........it never bloody ends......tone chasing is an eternal never ending quest...........
if he has found his sound and tone that works for him, then more power to him.
gar, there is nothing wrong with actually achieving the goal of finally finding the sound that suits you.
my whole point was, that as far as i am concerned, on my cd's, live, etc..., i have not found my tone and sound just yet.
not one i'm totally happy with anyway.
if jhale has figured it out for himself, then more fucking power to him.
i'm happy for him and i salute him.
it's not an easy task and it takes a long fucking time.
most guitarists never find their signature sound.
i'm still looking for mine.
i've come fairly close a couple times, but it still wasn't quite right.
if jhale has gotten it right and is happy with his sound, good for him and i'm happy for him.
however, if you haven't yet found your sound, then i urge you to not give up and to continue the search.
it is a very elusive search..........like the pevensi kids hunting the white stag.........
i am the best guitarist you've never heard.
We should have a contest sometime, like have everybody do a common song like "Jingle Bells" or something in their own style, and let the board choose the winner.
Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!
Ordinarily I'd say if you haven't found yours yet, perhaps you need to keep trying...? If at first you don't succeed?
Contrary to troll assertion, I've played through JMPs. And JCM800s and 900s. And some vintage and/or modded vintage Plexis (also including a Metropoulis dupe of the Plexi) modded by and also for names I could drop, Soldanos, 5150 I and IIs, etc. Always maintained and come back to the Boogie, FOR LIVE WORK and will not apologize for it. And while I could care if he likes my playing, the thing that is known in the wild as douche-tube-GARfailicus needs to quit assuming is that he knows what tracks he's heard and is supposedly critiquing are recorded with or without the Boogie. He doesn't. For all he or anyone else here knows it may not actually be on ANY of the Soundclick links...yet still he ASSumes... or I guess in his mind I sound like shit through anything. Opinions (of) and Assholes...what can ya do.
Says the guy that claims to only play through old “out-of-spec” Plexis, yet also claims to have supposedly quit playing. And from the 6 years quote, imagining you're still stuck behind a counter in a store in Hollywood I rarely if ever shop at for strings (and still don't have access to track my purchases globally in said counter's company system? What, d'ya work in the warehouse or something?? LMAO) because that was indeed probably the last time I bought strings - there...lol
Nope. Just means – much like when you hate on me – that you’re a bitter, jealous hater - kinda pathetic if ya think about it. Congrats. So I take it that: if you hate on Deadbag Darryl, the terrorists win..
Dime used solid-state Randalls not because he was "cheap" but because he DUG them, for what they did for him (until the switch to Kranks). Not everyone has to like it. If you haven't noticed, nobody cares if you don't, Lady GAR GAR.
