    Van Halen rarities online

Fans of Van Halen get a special treat this holiday season with the unveiling of a new site that contains over 80 rare performances by the band.

Chris Gossett, a longtime fan of the group, has posted the treasure trove of material on his site at chrisgossett.com

The site covers all eras of the group from 1976 to 2009 and includes the latest version of the band's complete concert from Columbus, OH on May 7, 2008.

There are also a handful of tracks from some of the offshoots like Chickenfoot.

The earliest tracks date back to 1975 to 1977 with covers of songs by Led Zeppelin, Humble Pie, Johnny Winter, Deep Purple, ZZ Top and more.

Fans have waited well over two decades for the chance to hear these live tracks. They started out as soundboard recordings which were in serious need of enhancement as they were so muffled and imbalanced between the bass and treble and had essentially no mids.

A few adjustments on a Macintosh later and we have what sounds like a dream come true because not only is it crystal clear audio, but Van Halen truly improved over the span of their recent tour.

Interesting that he has created a "VAN HALEN STORE" that does little more than provide links to Amazon.com. The items for sale there are merely items purchased from the real VH Store and are being sold at a mark up. Do not be fooled.

Already have the striped neck tie. And even if I was looking for more junk, I'd buy it from the real VH Store, instead of from some bozo ripping people off. Read the fine print, the guy makes claims about being "authorized" to to this and that, claims that are highly dubious to begin with. And just how is taking other people's recorded material from Youtube, putting new visuals to it and calling it your own any different than theft? The fact is this material sounds almost the exact same as the tracks that have been available to collectors for years, with a great percentage of it readily available if you know where to look.

So as a fan and collector, yeah, I'm a bit of a snob. Appropriating the work of others and calling it your own (to me) is just plain wrong.

          Listen close to this track...

There is a bass track similar to the original in addition to Wolfgang...and no way are those backing vocals live...

          Still cool though...

Yeah it's amazing how muddy the bass is considering it's supposedly just the 3 of them playing.

Next tour they should take it to the limit.

Charge $1000 and then get Roth to come on stage and introduce a video of a CGI band miming to someone else playing. Take a bow and then fuck off home with the cash.

Is any of this really "rare" before I go clicking on all of them. The first one I clicked I have on 2 or 3 different boots.

                        Anyway great thread.

I am in the mood for a pizza. Brick fired would be great.

This could take a while, as first I have to build a brick oven. I love that stuff. There used to be a brick oven style pizzeria close to me, but promptly went out of business in six months (after over a decade in business) when the guy tried to turn it into a franchise, and spread himself too thin.

There really is something special about the crust, be it a pizza or a calzone cooked in that type of oven.

Yeah. I love pizza. I have always wanted to go to New York and try a real coal oven New York water pizza. They say it's the best shit ever.
