    Fucking Chrome....

Won't let me log in. Tried 4 times with my actual user name and password. The board kept fucking lying to me, calling me "invalid" and shit. Fucking lying piece of shit software, lol.

Tried Firefox and it let me right in.

Gonna have to stick to FF when coming here I guess.

    Oh well.

I tried Chrome once, didn't like it, and switched back to Firefox.

Chrome is faster than FF and IE(30% or more) and has a very clean interface. It can be a bit unpredictable at some websites where say the developer has browser specific coding hacks but this is becoming less common as Chrome becomes more popular. Chrome has doubled it's user base from 10-20% this year taking most of it's users from Internet Explorer which last time I looked has become an unusable fucking misery of paranoid security alerts. Firefox had a real blip last year where it seemed to be installing fixes on a daily basis and crashing all the time but has settled down and is currently the most popular with 40% or so of the market.

I've said before that I have used Chrome for months here with no problems but Firefox is fine too and is particularly good at blocking popup adverts which you will want if you go to dodgy porn sites or VH Links.

Just discoverd Firefox creates double posts for me as well.

    http://www.rotharmy.com/forums/showt...=1#post1503387

So I dunno what the fucking deal is. Lotsa u peeps have made suggestions since this started happening to me a couple of years back. Nothing has worked, apparently. Might just be some fluke of my dialup connection.

I do notice occasionally Chrome stops working with Facebook, and there will be times at other sites I will click on a button and it will do nothing.
It still has a ways to go, apparently.

Yeah I get the button thing too occasionally with Chrome.

I think your double post thing is being on dial up though.

Basically the internet isn't really dial up compatible any more...

You could always try Seamonkey. Of course it's pretty much the same thing as Firefox (only with a built in e mail client as opposed to using Thunderbird separately). All the major Firefox plugins work like AdBlock Plus, NoScript, etc.

Here's the general rundown with regards to what works with the Army, and what doesn't:

    1. IE blows ass
    2. Firefox is the preferred
    3. Could give a shit less about Chrome, although hear good things
    4. I think I had seamonkeys once, nothing a good antibiotic won't cure
    5. What the fuck is dial up?
    6. Did I mention that IE blows ass?
    7. Yo, you over there that mentioned Netscape...fuck off...

Heh..Netscape is Firefox's Daddy, lol. That is what I began on, as I knew from the word go it was better than the POS IE browser.

I have Chrome also. I've found, for whatever reason, that when I'm at a screen that I have to enter my password, such as the Admin CP screen, and I hit the Enter button, it will simply pull up the main forum screen....

But when I input the password and I actually click on the Enter button on the page, it goes to the Admin CP...

Strange, but that's what I have to do....

You should see what it does at another site I frequent. It refuses to read the log in page at all. There is literally no log in/password section at the top of the page. So in order to enter the site, you have to quote a post at random, which brings you to a "You are not logged in" page, and sign in there. I won't try explain the admin section, other than to say that logging into it is just as much (if not more) a matter of blind luck than you described. CHROME does remember passwords and is less buggy in that regard than FF, which has issues with remembering history as well. But it's fairly pointless of the browser to remember passwords and log in info if it won't display any place to input them.

I refuse to use Chrome. I'm already using GMail & the Google search engine, I don't really wanna put meself on the hands of Google any more than that. I also make a point of logging off GMail when I'm done so as not to have my account & my searches linked, even though I have selected NOT to use the internet history on my account, for what it's worth.

I know this is pretty pointless, as some day - if not already - I'll be as trackable as anyone who agrees to use all that shit, but hey... gotta give it a try to preserve me FREEDOM! And privacy. And I swear that me bairns will ALSO be BORN FREE! FREE!

So, I use Opera. Hard to get into, harder to leave behind once you do get into it. I stopped using Internet Exploder years ago. Gave Firefux a try, but... no dice. I... think... I remember installing Safari when it came out... it brings up memories of horror... cleaning up never ending shit that I did NOT choose to install & was left behind by that FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT! It was WORSE than Internet Exploder!

I should've known better, from previous experiences with the bloatwares Quicktime & iTunes. FUCK YOU, APPLE! FUCK YOU, JOBS!

    Cheers! :bottle:

I installed and passed on Opera a couple of years ago, yet still have remnants of it hanging around. It is damned near impossible to delete the thing, and that is just a bit too creepily invasive for me.

I had that problem with Firefux.

It wasn't nearly as bad as with Shitfari, though... *shudders*

    I STILL have nightmares.

I guess all browsers leave some shit on your computer's registry... but... Safari... dear Gawd, THE HORROR!

But how do you mean, invasive? I never had any privacy problems with the thing. Am I missing something?

It was really weird...strange things like a bunch of unexplained CPU usage. The task manager would be pinging at 100%, the fans working at their maximum and making all sorts of noise but you could not locate what part of the program was causing it. And like I said, you can not get rid of it. What sort of browser company creates software that you can not remove once it is installed (Insert Microsoft joke here)? That is fairly questionable behavior, and to me is an invasive tactic.

Hmmm, that never happened to me in all the years I used Opera.

But hey, with all the possible combinations of hardware & software there is, it's amazing how programs manage to run on most machines. What works fine on one computer, may run like shit on another & vice-versa...

As for the leftovers, most programs leave crap when uninstalled. Firefux did that to me, too. In fact, I believe it still does. The only way to get completely rid of it is to format the computer. Again, most programs do this.

    Cheers! :bottle:

I remember the Mac users saying that Safari was The Shit. Maybe the Mac native version was?

But the Windows version of Safari was complete crap. It was like the "Windows ME" of browsers.

I wasn't that impressed with Opera either. Didn't see where it could do anything that Seamonkey (or the Firefox & Thunderbird combo) couldn't do. Mozilla browsers are simply better. True in the early days with Mosaic, then with Netscape, and now with Firefox & Seamonkey.

Chrome's fast, but the first thing I block with NoScript is Google Analytics. Somehow I doubt Chrome is going to let me block Google's own spyware even if they do get their plugins working right. Which they don't yet.

Chrome is starting to come around, and is featuring an add on imaginatively called No Scripts. The problem is, it doesn't really work, and is the most confounding and un-user-friendly piece of crap you've ever seen. Sure, it blocks scripts, but it blocks virtually EVERYTHING, making the browser completely useless. And in order to reset the parameters to make the browser work, you first need to acquire degrees in both engineering and quantum mechanics

Yeah NoScript pretty much turned Chrome into a software version of a paperweight, so I uninstalled it.

Good to see that somebody else remembers the mac version of MSIE 5. I think Microsoft and Apple are both trying to pretend that it never existed. But I remember running it on this old beast from Hell first generation "Power PC" Mac that I used at the software company I was working for at the time. (In theory it was the best machine for me to do tech support on for both the PC and Mac users, but it ran Windows horribly slow. So I did all my net surfing on the Mac side, naturally. (it was still slower than it should have been. That PC card was a resource hog.)

Haha, you all sound like a bunch of grandpas.

I am using Chrome right now, with no problems whatsoever. My only complaint is that it seems like it has a memory leak and after a few days I have to restart the browser. But it's a hell of a lot more performant than FireFox, which is becoming VERY bloated. It's a shame because it used to be much better.

Funny, I realized I had not updated my version of Chrome. I have only been using it for 6-8 months or so.

To my horror I discovered that a) I was using v4.1, and since I got this (when it was current), they are now on v7.1.

So I downloaded it and am using it now. At least it allowed me to login to the Roth Army now.
Will see what else is new. There are some changes....some commands in the options that were previously not available (though were common ones like cut/paste/copy) in Chrome, but in all other browsers.
Damn...burned through three new versions inside of a year. That is hauling ass in development world.

You kids have it easy. In my day, we had to dial by ear, naked, in the middle of the winter & download hadn't been invented yet. We had to UPLOAD both ways. AND we used Lynx! None of that fancy schmancy browsers you kids are using these days.

    Ah, those were the days.

Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!

I busted the UBB software. Caught in the act, lying to me, claiming I had not posted and needed to post again.

Maybe they should put a warning message on front page.

In order to use this forum you will require a 21st century internet connection.

I think it should be a legal requirement of AT&T that they should provide a 21st-century internet connection to 100% of their customer base.

And, my connection has nothing to do with the Roth Army Forums lying to me.

Why do you think Scots wear those kilts? Easy access.

Chrome is the best browser available. It never fails me... Try different spellings of your email and password. Sometimes the login button doesn't like me and I have to capitalize or lowercase a letter....
Reading Crazy From the Heat in four hours flat, in a cramped RV, on the return trip of a 3,000+ mile family outing to New Jersey is an enlightening experience you'll never forget.
