I like it. I love amps that sound as good turned down and they do blasting and clean up nice with the volume knob on the guitar.

No shit. I look forward to the day when I can afford to buy a kit amp and build one myself.

I did some research on this amp. It's completely solid state. No tubes at all. It sells for $900.

    Sounds sweet for solid state.

Shocking it sounds so good for solid state. Maybe why the master volume works so well

Also what's nice is you can use the line out without a speaker cab. A tube amp needs a load on the transformer. So you can use the retro channel as a direct box when you don't want to haul speaker cabs around.

Agree that doesn't really sound like a solid state amp...

I know Andy Johns likes their equipment. Their main product is a rack mounted processor/preamp that replicates the sounds of old vintage studio gear. They obviously know what they are doing.

Transistors and tubes both clip square the main difference is tubes need a transformer to lower the impedance to speakers levels. Transistors don't. So what's missing in a solid state amp is that sag and interaction between the power tubes, the transformer, and speakers. Also, the electrons in a tube don't all hit the plate at the same time so you get some natural delay in the tone from the tubes. You can design a circuit to emulate what tubes do naturally but it's not easy and that is where the real trick is.

Sounds awesome. Looks to be bare-bones. But who cares? It's simple, and I guess that's the beauty in it.
Reading Crazy From the Heat in four hours flat, in a cramped RV, on the return trip of a 3,000+ mile family outing to New Jersey is an enlightening experience you'll never forget.
