    Compressor Pedals

The pickup referrals went well so I thought I'd try again.

I like pedals, but have gotten away from them for awhile. I'm more of a high volume guy rather than compressor pedal dude, but I'm kind of liking the 80's pop clean sound and I know it is highly compressed. Do you guys use compressors? Any suggestions on compressor pedals? I was thinking the MXR Dyna Comp may be a good place to start but not sure. Is the Boss compression pedal any good?

The MXR Dyna Comp was the 80s standard for that compressed funk tone, and so many other clean sounds you've heard. They're great. The Boss one is also cool, but what I'd reeeeeally be interested to try is the newer MXR Super Comp...

I never used a comp. Just give me rough and raw crunchy roar and I am fine. Though I surely admire what one can do for one's sound.

The Keeley compressor is becoming a new standard in compressors. More expensive than the MXR, but top notch.

I have an Ibanez Compressor II...

Basically the same as an MXR Dyna Comp, slightly softer compression IMO.
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

I can remember when people bought Ibanez because they couldn't afford Boss. Ibanez in the early 80's was the bargain brand. I still have a digital delay and tube screamer. Built like a brick shit house.

Friend of mine has an 808. Could not make any bux on it because it is battered beyond belief and no longer works. He used it for like 20 years, average 3-4 nights a week, 3-4 sets per night.

He still has it. But once it stopped working, he just tossed it someplace in his house to slowly rot away. It looks like it sat in the midst of a busy intersection for a couple of years, with traffic running over it day and night.

I have an original TS-9 I bought in 1997 for $75. Only a little wear on it. Works just great too!

Not to derail, but isn't the Maxon Tube Screamer supposedly a reissue of the old TS808 circuit? A friend has one, sounds OK, but is nowhere near as durable as the original...it already looks beat to shit...

LOL. Maxon was the original company that manufactured them as a sub-contractor for Ibanez, no?

Not only does Maxon have an 808 based on the original cirtcuit, Ibanez has TS-808 reissues for sale for about $150.
