    Happy birthday mr. Telecaster

The Fender Telecaster Turns 60! Can't believe all of you gear-playing knuckleheads missed this. Turds.

There were several who can manipulate this instrument to make it sound like it was truly a gift from the Gods: Roy Buchanan, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Pete Anderson, Steve Cropper, Albert Collins, but none did it better than the late Danny Gatton. May the Tele live past the age of 100

    My favorite Fender Fiddle.
Oh by the way, I missed this because unlike Elvis and all the other Bedroom Blackmore's, I was Gigging.

I've been trying to think of who were some of the most famous Tele players without Googling...you know, players who really made the Tele shine.

Albert Lee comes to mind but didn't he play Peavy knock offs or something similar?

Albert Collins The "master of the telecaster"
Jimmy Page The best Zeppelin Guitar sounds (like the first Album) were a Tele.
Keef of course, he sucks as a player though.

Pete Townshend around 1980 or so started playing Telecasters and Tele-body Schecters pretty much exclusively onstage until 1983.

Those are the ugliest Tele's I've seen! What gets me is how well Townshend played for a guy who claimed to be on heroin 2 years before.

Wasn't it Knopfler who made Schecters popular? Now he plays Pensa-Shure. I've seen those. Sweet.

Many people have played the Telecaster. But the first name that always comes to mind, would be the greatest rhythm guitarist in history, who has one in his hands 90% of the time......

If you're going to get into Keith playing the Tele this is probably my fav moment of him on YouGoob. Notice how Keith doesn't play chords, he strikes them - literally.

Yeah, as far as permanently associated w/ Teles, you gotta think Beck, Page (even though they're more widely known for Strats and LPs), James Burton, Steve Cropper, Andy Summers, Danny Gatton, Keef...trying to think of others not yet mentioned, not "guitar heroes" but more visually associated with them - and Springsteen and maybe Joe Strummer spring to mind...oh, and Buck Owens, since he was usually just the one "grinnin'" while Mr. Clark was handling all the "pickin'" duties.

This probably should be in Gear Street...?

I was thinking gear street and if a mod wants to move this topic there I'm more than cool with that. I wasn't trying to get into the technicalities of the Tele, just that it's getting old like Chefcraig.

Doug Fieger of the Knack started out playing Strats, but he switched to the Tele in his later years....

They sound real great if you bolt the bridge pickup into the wood Eddie Van Halen style. I have a GE Smith signature Tele made that way and you can cover anything with it. He used this type of rig when he was doing Saturday Night Live because it was so versatile. I used to have a 72 Tele with big ass humbuckers on it. I wish I still had that one.

When I used to play in Vegas, the guitar player I worked with had one of those 72 reissues, the ones with the big ass pick guard. He could pull a lot of tones out of it.
