Fucking Roy Buchanan was the shit.

In the summer of 1978, the Mighty KISW in Seattle was constantly playing the title track from his album "You're Not Alone", so I went and bought it. Fucking kick ass song.

Yeah, the pre-corporate radio glory days of KISW, where you could actually hear Roy Buchanan, The Clash, Blondie, Ac/Dc, The Ramones, Zeppelin, Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Van Halen, and Pink Floyd all in the same hour. God damn I miss that radio station.

George Harrison didn't always play Telecaster, but he happened to have one at the Beatles last gig.....

...of course his amp fried out in the middle of the song, but it's historical none the less.

Ah yes! East Bay Ray! King of the surf punk guitar. I say surf punk because Ray never listed much in the way of "influences" apart from an early 80's band called the Raybeats. I couldn't find the tune 'Calhoun Surf' - all YouSlime had was this. Not sure if the guitar player of The Raybeats used a Tele but you can hear the influence of style in a lot of Dead Kennedy tunes. Good call, Ford.

The Telecaster and the Stratocaster. Fenders best guitars were two of the earliest models and amazingly, unchanged from the original design. Two of the world's great products if you ask me. The Boadcaster was the first. It was a one pickup Tele and I believe due to not having a truss rod, it had neck problems. The Telecaster was the improved version. Pretty much the first mass produced electric guitar and still one of the most popular.

When I worked in a musical instrument store while in college I can vaguely remember one of the guitar instructors there saying that Harrison's Tele was a custom-built (before custom-built guitars were...well, custom-built) with a solid rosewood body and neck. Years later Fender Custom Shop offered Harrison to make replicas but he had turned them on principle for it was against his Hindu anti-materialism views or something. Odd, since he lived in a castle.

Ah, Jody Harris (Raybeats) was his name and from what I could Google (to look clever) seems he did or does play a Tele.

I dig the fact that Tommy Chong had a rear-view mirror bolted to his headstock, lol.
