I still like this first album better than anything Trent has done since, but I was happy to see him win the Oscar anyway, as opposed to the usual orchestra soundtracks that usually get that prize.
What sucks about "White Lines" is that Grandmaster Flash was not even involved in the recording of that song. By then the fucking cunt who was his "manager" had successfully maneuvered him out of his own band and was trying to ass-rape him financially.
That said, that was the song that introduced me to that group, and even though the mix is pretty long, I am downloading it on my shitty dialup connection RIGHT FUCKING NOW, cos I wanna hear it.

Damn, you learn something every day around here. I was never a huge Grandmaster Flash fan. Only knew White Lines & The Message, really (great songs though both of them are) and really had no clue about the soap opera behind the scenes. Their manager must have been the Ray Danniels/Allen Klein of the hip hop world.

And, the visual part of the video - a still image of the single - you can see it is 'produced' by Sylvia Robinson - she is the goddamnable greedy cunt bitch slut whore that fucked over Grandmaster Flash. She and her 'associates' read the book on 'ass-raping the artist', and then took it to the extreme, writing new chapters along the way.
I suppose I could say if it were not for her, "White Lines" would never have been heard by the public.
But she fucked the GrandMaster royally. Did not even use lube. She used sand.
I found an autobiography of Grandmaster Flash only a few months back called "The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash: My Life, And My Beats".
It is a fascinating story of growing up in New York City, and the birth of hip-hop, rap, etc.
It was Grandmaster Flash who INVENTED 'scratching'. He was years ahead of his time.
When he was a kid, he always wanted to know how stuff worked. His family would suddenly discover electronic items around the house that were torn apart, as he wanted to know how they worked. Eventually, when he learned enough about electronics, he would go dumpster diving for junk TVs, stereos, etc. so he could have parts to build his own little PA systems. DJs in Harlem and surrounding areas became locally famous for their abilities to spin records at outdoor parties. And that was the scene he grew up in.
Ok, enough about that. Back to the purpose of this thread.
Oh, and Trent Reznor is a genius who deserves every bit of credit that he gets.
