Yeah, back in the day. Didn't own an echo pedal at the time so was trying to pick everything...(ow) got close, but easy it is not. If nothing else it's an incredible rut-buster alternate-picking-wise and due to all the chromaticism....a workout for both the left and right hands!
I thought "Waiting for the Punchline" in '95 was an underrated album too...that one had Mike Mangini on drums, way more intense that Pat Geary was as a player..."Hip Today" was a minor hit and has a ridiculous guitar solo.
Look how young Jon Stewart looks in that clip - it was only 16 years ago, not 60!
He recorded the majority of that CD on IIRC a Fender Princeton, only used a Soldano on one tune...the tones are very dry and almost scary clean - really showcases how together his picking hand is...NO one will ever dare accuse that guy of hiding behind distortion...and as Sesh mentioned he's one of the few people that can pull that shit off with his guitar slung cool-guy low; most would have to ratchet their shit up to the dreaded "guitarmpit" Jazz-height to play that precisely...
I think my favorite quote about Nuno came from Dweezil Zappa, to paraphrase (since I'm too lazy to look it up at the moment) he mentioned the fact that not only can he play guitar like he does, he's also a more-than-competent pianist and singer "The guy is so talented you just want to punch him..."
There's a surprisingly piano-based ballad (I know, other than the piano part, who could've seen that coming) on the new CD called "Ghost" that has a very "Jump" on steriods arpeggio solo...the guy's seemingly equally adept on piano as he is on guitar...I mean, what a bastard!
If your uncle is mentally ill and having some sort of fit from the flashing lights.
This is a case of '80's band struggling for an image in the '90s'. It looks horrible, as they're too old for the clothes they're wearing, and Cherone's schtick is out-of-step with their new sound.
It's a good tune, though. Gary was having an off-night vocally, however. Fair enough.
Over the years I've grown to respect him more. His voice is so different from most hair metal vocalists, and I kind of respect him for not comforming. I'd also add that Extreme were incredible when I saw them years and years ago. In terms of bands of that style of music, I'd say they wipe the floor with most of their peers.
The Power Of The Riff Compels Me
It's kinda hard to consider them an "80s" band since their first release came out in IIRC late '89...by that logic isn't Alice in Chains an 80s band too? Agree they seemed to be floundering image-wise in the mid-90s though...kind of a glam/grunge hybrid that didn't quite work. Nuno had and still has the coolest image out of the lot of them.
We should not forget the tune Midnight Express...

I can cope with Bettingshop being brilliant, what I find more difficult is the 20 YouTube videos of people managing the 'Play with Me' solo in their bedrooms...
NUNO KICKS ASS
I always thought Extreme was an excellent group but came out at the wrong time. They were too close to the 90's grunge thing timeline wise but 3 sides to every story was a strong, mature album.
I saw those guys at Rocky Point park in RI in 1990 and they simply Crushed.
Gary Cherone is the Joe Besser of Van Halen.
