Ed needs to do a REAL interview.......

...... so he can actually answer some tough questions, not this rehearsed PR bullshit. I want his answer as to why Dave wasnt offered the gig. IMO he's just a lazy mofo who has lost it, and needs a yes man like Spammy. Still, I would like to see him do a real Q and A. Guitar World has been licking his ass for two decades(Spammy must be jealous) Thoughts?

Oh yeah, we should slip something in his beer, drive him to an undisclosed location, and force him to do an interview Roth Army style. We would scare him into it with threats of making him sit there for 5 hours without a beer.

True, let's get to the bottom of why Dave , or was Dave ever offered the gig. Cool to see that he has a good take on life, with cancer and all that other stuff. What pisses me off the most is that those dudes grew up and let the water pass under the bridge with Sammy, but not with Dave. Two 50 yr. old guys that can't get along and let the past shit go for the sake of the fans. With that type of fuck you attitude, you would think Dave fucked ED and AL's mom. We'll just have to wait and see.

Although I doubt Ed and AL have really grown up much. They're still acting like two year olds when it comes to Dave. Everyone is still intimidated by the great one.

I'm not sure how much water has passed; Hagar and the VH brothers are already having some tension together. I think it will all crumble sooner than later.

Mezro...come on douche brothers, give David a break

I think we could coax him into talking with a bottle of cough syrup.

Mezro...for some reason, I think Ed would answer the tough questions

Its funny ya know- If any other band reunites and tours with a new cd and new songs, they'd be booked for Leno or Letterman or to a lesser extent O'Brien or Seacrest. Looks like Hollywood knows this is just another Ed Van Halen scam for quick bucks. Sad. The legacy of VH is done. Thank God Dave lives on for us.

Maybe not, but he is still one of the major influences to what Dave sang back in the day. Listening to Ed today is different than Ed of yesterday, but still interesting nonetheless. Just surprises me that there is no media blitz and talk show rounds for the new Van Hagar tour. MTV, VH1, Much Music, Leno, Letterman, O Brien, Daly, The View, Carol Burnett show, BBC....LOL

Nobody gives a shit about Van Hagar. After the reunion of '96, any further music with Spam would be viewed with a yawn. If they never reunited with Dave on the BO, perhaps they might still retain some interest from the public at large.

    The media, just like the rest of us are waiting for Van Hagar to burn out on this farce and reunite with Dave. When they see the "light" they can get back in the "spot light". Until then, the media is not going to waste their time on interview that say nothing about a band thats going nowhere;

That's the PR machine in full motion. "Oh me and Sam got in a little fight, but then we held hands and froliced through a field of fresh flowers." No one in the media gives a SHIT 'bout Van Hagar. 5150 time indeed.

I just get so cracked up when you do see or hear something about Van Halen being back together or going on tour this summer and then with the article is a picture of Classic VH with Dave. Makes my day. This is bombing so bad, I almost feel sorry for Spam and the boys. I mean a little humiliation is a good thing, but this? Poor Ed is never gonna get off the bottle. At least we still have the Wiggles!

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but even though Sammy wasn't the best choice of singers...ALL of the tours did quite well.

Hell, they didn't even make a video for the 5150 album (except for the blue angel one.) They didn't even do TV appearances until the "Balance" album.

I'm telling you Van Hagar should have opened for the Wiggles on this tour. Although the little kids would probably be smart enough to realize how shitty the music is, and kick Spammy and Ed in the Vaginas. Then they'd get that Pirate to piss on Al's face. A great night at the ol' arena!

Who gives a fuck what Van Hagar did in the past. Van Halen had died (After VHIII) and there was only one real solution, The original reunion.
Those dumbfucks couldnt even get that right.
So to the losers, the spoils...

Doesn't really matter if the tour does good or not-tours don't make money albums do; but even that is only in the short term. I mean besides Van Halen/Hagar, who really gives a f**ck about how much money they make. Like Dave says, I ain't in it, I don't care, and Van HAlen/Hagar just doesn't share the profits with me; The ultimate test is the TEST OF TIME. Van Halen has passed the test of time and Van Hagar just can't cut it; can't even come close.

And you know that sucks too cause song like Dreams and Right Now bear a message for the masses that deserves to be remembered. If Dave woulda sang 'em they would be. Now they are lost for all time; Okay, that does it. Now I am pissed.

Trust me. I agree with your logic.

But as I've said time and time again. I don't hate Dave cuz he doesn't presently work with Ed. And I don't hate Ed cuz he doesn't presently work with Dave.

    I support both. REGARDLESS.

Honestly, I love Van Halen best when having a few beers. And if I had to pick 2 Van Hagar songs that I actually really love while drinking said beers they would be:

    1. Humans Being
    2. The Seventh Seal

Both are just great in my opinion. And although I like the Hagar era, when in a party mode, the songs don't stand up to the Six Pack (pun intended).

    I cannot stand Humans Being.

That double tracked vocal, and those godawful lyrics totally ruin the rest of the track.

I don't know Warham. It's actually a double edged sword. I liked the double tracked vocals. I can't really understand the lyrics. And I always took satisfaction in it being the song that broke up the band.

However, when I bought the Video Hits Volume 1...I enjoyed the video. It looked like "tension" and it was the last time that Ed looked cool.

Hmmm...I do know the first lyric...but as for the rest it just sounds jumbled.

Any guitar mag isn't the right forum for an interview that asks the tough questions. GUITAR WORLD concentrates most of their Ed pics and tabs firmly on the classic era, then surrounds them with softball questions for EVH.

But even if an interviewer came out and said to Ed, "There's a lot of people out there who think the band's best work was done when Roth was in the band. More people by far bought the classic era records than any other. What would you say to those people who don't care for the music you make with Hagar, and think you peaked as a guitarist and rock songwriter decades ago?"

Not like Ed's gonna go, "By God, You're right!" It's gonna be the usual, "I'm in therapy and live my life for myself Al and I make music to please ourselves fist Dave is all washed up" routine.

Yes, he should do a real interview. How about a 20 Questions With interview for metal-sludge.com? That's a very deep and thoughty interview (sarcastically speaking).

But, the point we're all missing here is Eddie hasn't said ONE bad thing about Dave since the 2000 sessions.

Even Ed and Al in their denial of the classic period remember the backlash they got after they talked trash about Dave in 1996. Was only compounded and made worse when VH3 bombed and Roth came out serving up the classics.

That GUITAR WORLD interview was just total Eddie-loving bullshit. Knew it from the start when it opened with an introduction supposedly penned by Ed himself.

"Without me, there is no Van Halen, because it starts with me."

    EVH 2004

More than half the interview focuses on Eddie assuming control of production in Van Halen, and how much he's learned in terms of getting the sound he wants out of his studio and equipment (after listening to "It's About Time", I guess he's referring to learning how to press the RECORD button on a 4-track tape player).

"Van Halen is back. Me, Alex, Sammy and Mike."

    EVH 2004

Only thing Van Halen have left to offer is a classic reunion. The new track is weak even by Van Hagar's own lackadasical standards. The media doesn't care anymore. Sam and Dave's tour in 2002 got more media exposure from their press conference ANNOUNCING that tour than Van Hagar have in the last 4 months of being officially reformed.

GUITAR WORLD is a safe haven for Eddie to say what he wants without confronting why Roth isn't in the band, or even be held accountable for the 180 he's pulled regarding what he's doing now versus his previous statements.

Ed seems to think Van Halen has undertaken a new beginning, but everything they're doing and the lack of energy they're doing it with signals the end.

Hard to imagine Halen is going out with a whimper, but here it is.

No way Dave ever returns to VH IMO. Yes I know "never say never", especially when it comes to rock bands and $ but..........If this Sammy debacle is mega successful in the months to come(and we all know its not gonna be), then Ed will feel justified being in Zombie mode with the Spamster and stay with him. If it bombs he will go into seclusion and further waste away. Out with a whimper indeed.

    Ed will say...

"I'd rather have Hagar butter my biscuits and cream in my coffee that record with the Toastmaster General again. ::BURP!::"
