Ok, Harold Reynolds broke down that infield fly play and showed why the umpires got it right. I'll tell ya, I've seen a lot of ballgames and I can't ever remember seeing a play like that get called an IF but he showed an example from earlier this year. It was almost a carbon copy. Maybe I never noticed it because the ball was always caught.

Who thinks this new system with the one game playoff is a waste of time? What was wrong with the way it was? Until they expand each league to four division I say get rid of this one game playoff bullshit. One wild card for now.

I completely agree , any new expansion in the MLB playoffs should still be a best of 5 series at the least .
Last nights game , controversy and all , had my stomache in total knots .
It was much closer than the final score and easily could have gone either way .
Gotta say this though - the Braves pretty much beat themselves with those three awful and costly errors .
Not a nice way for Chipper Jones to go out . At least he went out swinging in a post season game .
Congradulations to my St. Louis Cardinals . I've been a fan since 1968 when I was 5 and I have lived
and died with every swing of the bat , every out , and every win or loss no matter how big or small .
    Regardless , just play a hard nine . Go Cards ! 12 in '12 !

You know what, fuck it! Drop this whole wild card system altogether and allow the division with with the best record in each league to have a first-round bye.

I dunno..I have never seen that called so late...if you are so sure its routine for the infielder, then you should call him out well before they did.

By rule the ump is not allowed to call it until the ball reaches its apex( highest point) and sees the infielder is under control.

Harold Reynolds from MLB network explained it perfect the nite it happened . I didnt think it was the right call until i seen that. They showed the ump looking at the ball then look at the SS then he made call. 100% correct

Monsieur Martin!!! Petitte tonight. Playoffs are a different animal. I'm worried about Soriano's ability to close a big game.....but I'm glad it was Jim Johnson proving how different the playoff are last night.

When is A-rod going to stop trying to work a walk? He should be embarrassed that a guy who barely hit .200 was the game hero. I can't wait for his time to end.

He renegotiated for his mega millions, got it, left his wife and kids to fuck hos and celebrities, admitted to 3 years of steroid use and no longer actually gives a shit about his personal stats as they all have * after them. Swish will be gone next year because of team salary reduction. Total shame.

I like Swish.....but I'll survive losing him if we keep Ichiro for another 2 yrs.

I could go with that, too. I think the Damon/Swisher type goofy attitude needs to be present in that clubhouse, though.

I agree.....the Yankees were too corporate a few years back in the clubhouse.....now the stands are too corporate but that's another story. Damon and Swish were good for the clubhouse. I like Swish alot. He had great at bats last night. He still needs to prove himself in the playoffs so hopefully for his sake he does. I think this guy Ichiro still has alot left in the tank. I wouldn't mind seeing Swish back but if he thinks he's getting Jason Werth money then I'm afraid he's gone.

I agree. He really looks like shit.

Since he's been back he's got no pop. Also, anything off speed on the inside half he's bailing. He sees the outside half ok, not that that's all peaches and cream, he just doesn't swing at those. Not to make excuses but I almost wonder if he's having vision problems.

Wait a second, I know what the vision problems are from; it's from him looking at all those zero's in the stats when he's hitting with runners in scoring position. Those make me feel like I'm not seeing clearly too...

Ichiro would probably still be a Mariner if that idiot Jay Buehner would have kept his mouth shut. He disrespected Ichiro and everything he did for the team with his comments and nobody spoke up for Ichiro. He did the right thing when he requested a trade. Too bad the Dodgers didn't get him instead.

Granderson.......can you lay off the curveball in the dirt just once? Damn....that dude is swinging and missing by 3 feet on those pitches! Girardi, when Tex leads off the 8th with a hit.....pinch run Gardy!!!....This is the playoffs....can't wait around for home runs all the time.....gotta manufacture runs sometimes.

Mr. may indeed......that dude is done. He could have worked a walk if he laid off the 2 pitches down and in and gotten Cano to the plate. Game 3 is huge.....usually that's Petitte's game....we need Kuroda to come up big.

I have total faith in Kuroda. He better get some damn run support. Andy was actually great last night. Went deep too. That can't happen again in the year 2012.

Andy definitely pitched well. This team hasn't hit with men in scoring position all year. I was afraid that would be their downfall come playoff time.

I'm very pro small ball. I liked how Jete showed more signs of bunt during their win then he did all year. If they're not going to get up there and clobber, they still have to find a way to manufacture runs. And your right about the pinch running. Get Gardner in there and move bases!

Speaking of small ball, I was surprised that Ichiro didn't try to drag one down the line in the 9th to get it started.

I was right there too. He's just not performing at the plate. At this point Girardi could get away with using Chavez and nobody could argue.

He said if the Mariners extended Ichiros contract he'd puke. There was a dollar amount mentioned that Buehner thought Ichiro would expect to stay. I guess he figured Ichiro's abilities were declining. In my opinion you have to factor in other things too. Like butts in the seats and influence on the younger players. I think Buehner or Bonehead as I call him was a little jealous that Ichiro had replaced him and done a superior job.

THANK YOU RAUL FOR BAILING OUT THE REST OF THE PUSSIES IN THE LINEUP JETER NOT WITHSTANDING. I expect Ichiro to come around.....but same ol same ol as far as the playoffs go for guys like Swisher, Granderson, Texiera. Cano needs to wake up too and stop swinging at balls out of the strike zone. Hopefully Hughes doesn't shit the bed tonight. Go Yanks.

P.S. Kuroda pitched his balls off last night.....so did the kid for Baltimore. Jim Johnson apparently doesn't have the stones for playoff baseball.

Oh the Pain. Derek Jeter, Texiera, Russ martin, Ibanez, and Jay Nix are apparently the only Yankees who bothered to show up for the series. Yanks could have really set themselves up nicely for Detroit IF they won last night. O's hitters are choking too except for McClouth. I honestly can't see the Yankees getting past Detroit IF they get past Baltimore....and that's a big IF. If they continue to hit like this, one run a game is not going to beat Detroit.

Sadly, this is the wall this team has been hitting, with the exception of '09, since 2004 with their post season efforts. When they don't show up to play when it matters most, all I can do is just scratch my head and focus on football.

I mean, really, these guys should have bashed the O's for Joe Girardi, who just lost his Dad. Instead we got A-Rod actually being upset this time that he was pulled. Even if CC smokes'em tonight, he needs some GD run support FFS!!!
