Thumbs up Billy Sheehan wants a CVH reunion...AND an EEAS band reunion!

Bryan Reesman of ADD blog posted an interview with Billy Sheehan regarding the Mr. Big reunion, etc. yesterday, and Bill brought up the possibility of a future EEAS band reunion. Nothing concrete, but definitely something he's still interested in doing...

(No, I have no idea what's up with Eric Martin's scarf either)

    http://www.bryanreesman.com/blog/201...n-from-mr-big/

He also wants to see a full CVH reunion...love the comment "It's great VH is back together, but WHERE'S MIKE?? Some people say it's all about Dave and Eddie together again, but I want to see THE BAND, y'know?"

Sheehan and Gilbert are MONSTERS (a fact indisputable) , and Pat Torpey is no slouch either. It's not all about their pop tunes, of which gems like "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind" were still cooler than any of the other crap on the radio at the time.

So in other words, pretty cool, but not like a full CVH reunion would be.

When other people say that, it saves me from having to say it all the time. So right the fuck on!!

As far as an EEAS reunion, it'd be interesting as a one-off kind of thing. Steve and Billy still get together every once in awhile and jam, and it's still fuckin' amazing. It either inspires or discourages alot of musicians when they do because they both still kick serious ass.

He's dead-on about VH. Ed needs to grow the fuck up, stop pissing in the fans face, and do something for the fans instead of himself.

GIVE ME VAN HALEN OR GIVE ME HEAD!!

......and God Bless Billy the badass bass player!!

I'd love to hear a handful of the Skyscraper tunes performed live with Sheehan, Gregg Bissonette (or Charlie Benante), Vai and of course, Dave out front. The louder and more distorted, the better. And please, turn up the bass.

I'm still waiting for Sheehan to "leak" that original master tape of Skyscraper that he says he has. I'd like to believe that album could be something other than the over produced, synthcheese-laden mess it turned into.

Yeah, I would love to hear a synth-free version of that, too, but I'm not sure if he can release that without Dave's blessing.....he did say he is going to flood YouTube with all his back catalog and was going to do it just to put that stuff out there, not for profit.

    That's pretty classy, IMO!

Now if he just got out of that Scientology cult

Yeah, but Sheehan participated in one of those horribly tacky E! True Hollywood Story episodes, relating his experiences while dating the doomed porn star Savannah, and he didn't exactly come across as the sharpest knife in the silverware drawer. Then again, she wasn't exactly a NASA employee to begin with, so perhaps it was a match made in heaven.

He's a super-nice guy. Dealt with him in my music retail days, and he must live super-close to me because I run into him at my local supermarket occasionally, too...

Who says I haven't? There was a time in the early 90s you couldn't go to the Rainbow Bar & Grill without tripping over her, does that count?

He is, but it's completely and totally irrelevant.

He could worship a frog for all I care. It doesn't take anything away from the fact that he's a fuckin' kickass bass player.

    "But......he's......a scientologist!"

Like that makes one damn bit of difference.

    It really doesn't.

Scientology is no more wacky than any other form of organized religion.

I dunno if I'd really care too much about the EEAS lineup reuniting...Dave's last semi-regular solo live backing group got the job done just fine and didn't need to masturbate via their instruments to do it, which is pretty much the case whenever Vai is in a band.

I'm the first to criticise religions but I think there is something a bit extra sinister about Scientology that makes it a cult not so much because of it's wack job beliefs but because the way it imposes it's controls.

I think that the celebrity experience of Scientology is a bit different from your average Joe though, they really look after their celebs...

I've heard that the real reason Lisa Marie Presley married the gloved pedobear was because the Hubbard cultists wanted to get their hands on the Beatles songbook.

And if you listen to EEAS you can tell that that was the first time Dave was really Angry when singing. Even in 1996 he calmed right the fuck down.

To the general public, I am afraid you are correct. Most casual fans would just view it as Dave solo yet again. Only the hard core fans would truly appreciate it. I personally would love to see it. Blew me away first time around and would love to see those guys together again.

But ONLY if Eddie cracks again. Of course I would rather have Dave with EVH.

I have met Billy several times. Saw him a lot in the back room of FM Station. That was such a cool fucking club. *sigh*

Like that makes one damn bit of difference.
I wasn't inferring that he'd be a better player if he wasn't in the Hubbard cult. I simply wasn't aware he was one of them.

I was not a fan of Billy until I saw EEAS live (only cause I didn't know anything about him). The way he and Steve Vai played off each other was fucking incredible. I was blown away. It was like one man that had been split in 2. They were just so in sync with each other that it was weird. And it just felt so natural. Such a great show. Dave sure chose wisely for that band.

So HR...in the times you got to meet Billy, was he as cool as he seems like he would be? He just looks & acts like he would be very approachable. Really laid back & down to Earth.

So weird I bet when that happens. Remember that story when EVH was at his low point several years back where some guy ran in to him at the corner gas station/convenience store? Said he looked like a typical Los Angeles hobo buying a pack of smokes. Only famous person I ever saw in a grocery store was Roseanne Barr. She was buying a 6-pack of bottled imported beer in front of me in line. We were buying two 24-packs of canned domestic swill for our poker game.

EEAS reunion would be bad ass. Billy is bored with mr. Big. I don't blame him. In spite of his credentials, Paul Gilbert is void of any real emotion.

Eddie and his son are the weak link.

The thing is that at least an EEAS reunion would get to 95% of the original instead of the 65% the current VH line up gets to...

At no point did either use the other neck...

To me any attempt at bass solo's or lead stuff is kind of like a chimp on a bike.

Bikes are not designed for chimps, it's a little interesting that some chimps can actually do it but it's basically pointless and get's old fast.

Gilbert is an accomplished technician. Of that there is no doubt. However, his playing does nothing for me.

And to follow up with you and Terry. Deal being. Bass without Soul just kinda confuses people. Billy's Tone....sigh....no deep end...it is like choosing the wrong skins on your drums.....no bounce....no deep *pong....no snap. It is like he has never played an upright bass (I am sure he has) or listened to Bluegrass. Now Geddy Lee can make it quick and deep and you know he can hang with "speed"...but again....Why? Is the Bass supposed to be singing the Tenor's part?

Keep them away from young kids' learning music is my advice.

    Roth On.
