Roland Chayer - Van Halen Mix 04
Long time, no time, RC. Great to hear from you, hope all is good on your end.
As is to be expected, the mix is outstanding.
All the best, brother.

I love what you did at with the House of Pain riff at the end.
sounds like you put a lot of time in on this.
The transitions and use of effects were interesting as well.
That's some cool ass shit.

thank you, so much, mr/mrs carpenter
Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!
This is what I love about Roland's work, you are always going back and discovering all sorts of cool things you might have missed. For instance, soon after Dave says "Don't get uptight, baby pleeeease" in the "Romeo Delight" section, I could swear I hear the riff from The Who's "Young Man Blues". Anyone else catch that, and better yet, anyone have a clue as to where it comes from?
Wow...very imaginative...I like it!
Thanks, man. I've heard the Van Hagar version previously, before it was yanked from Youtube (the guy that posted it had/has a nasty habit of taking other people's bootlegged work and claiming it as his own, which explains why his stuff is usually taken off the site as so many people complain. If you do a Google search, you can still find his "work" at dailymotion and at other sites that are not as strict about such practices), but the playing of the riff is substantially different than whatever source RC used.
Sorry for the mistake... it's not VHM04...
That, my friends, is some groovy shite.
I'm not implying that it's a mistake by any means, Roland. I merely felt it was astoundingly cool, and thought you'd created the riff from a few samples of Ed's guitar work. If anything, it was a testament to your skill at these things. No insult meant at all, friend.
It was sure fun creating, arranging and mixing the shit... If you guys have particular/technical questions, I'll be glad to give some answers...
You really should add a link to your site and other work in your signature, man.

Roland, if you'd like to contribute some more stuff or are curious about what others around here have created, I highly recommend that you (or any other interested folks out there) check out the ARMY's "Show Your Work Thread" in the This Is Gear Street forum. You'll find examples of my own ineptitude posted there, along with the work of others that apparently have more of a definite grasp of what they are trying to accomplish.
That's cool. Very Cool.
Dammit that's some good stuff!! The whole thing just fucking punches you right in the headphones!!
very nice!!
At the 6 minute point he makes a hybrid of the House of Pain riff, a high chord from (I 'm pretty sure) Girl Gone Bad and a tapping move I can't figure out the source of (could be Largo 82 solo) that sounds like it could be a different song ! Sounded amazing to me.
Seems like very much trial and error editing. I wonder if that was planned or an accident that worked out....
Something I like, is to listen a lot to the mix when it's done, looking for mistakes, fixing everything, listening again, everything has to be the best possible... While creating it, yeah of course, like everyone, I try things, try to make them sound the best I can, but sometimes you better go thinking something else..., you see, it's precise shit and you get to edit it and create 'til you feel the overall thing is done..., when it kicks your own fucking ass ..., but I wonder why that funny thing about adding or changing something at the last second, listen to it once or twice, thinking it's better and presenting it to the public..., I wonder why I always do that, It's weird, I could be wrong doing that last ceative rush..., but I've never regret it so far...
There is a thin line between completeness and overindulgence. Yeah, it's something any creative person goes through, be it designing, writing a book or article, painting, creating music or hell, even doing plumbing: When is enough enough? It's nice to have someone looking over your shoulder at times, a subjective person that can see the work for what it is and say it is finished or needs more. Yet in reality, who amongst us has such a person, and more to the point, would we listen to them in the first place? So the majority of the time, it comes down to the artist's own inner voice. And since most artists are not nearly as good at arbitrating/judging their own work as they are in creating it, the situation has the hazards of becoming a catch-22.
That hasn't been the case here, and rarely is in Roland's efforts, as he has successfully walked the artistic tightrope for years now. Yet we have all been witness to excess from time to time, particularly in the fields of film or music. Sadly, the concept of less being more is often lost on lesser artists. Still others have found a way around the problem by aiming too low or not extending enough effort to see things through. Complacency is more often than not an artist's worst enemy, exceeded only by budget constraints. Sometimes it all boils down to sheer, dumb as a box of hammers luck. Unfortunately, of the pallet of other tools the artist has at his/her disposal, it is the most elusive of all.
