Carlos Beltran to be traded to the highest bidder

The Red Sox, Yankees and the Angels seem to be at the top of the list...although San Diego has expressed an interest as well...

I'd put Boston at the top...to get past the Arod lost...and Damon would be included in the deal...sending him back to KC...with some prospects...

Anaheim has the most immediate help available however...

man...Beltran, Vlad and freakin Garret Andersen in the same outfield...

    ouch...Power...Speed...and Average...

Who would they offer up for Beltran?
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."

Red Sox are in the lead in this one...but this came out of the New York Post...Baird has to be smiling his ass off...a bidding war between Boston and NY...

June 18, 2004 -- PHOENIX The Yankees' interest in Royals outfielder Carlos Beltran is directly linked to the Red Sox talking to the Royals about adding Beltran, according to several industry sources.
Since the Royals like Boston minor-league hurlers Juan Perez and Abe Alvarez and major-league infielder Kevin Youkilis, the Red Sox are considered among the favorites to land Beltran when the Royals decide to move the center fielder, who will become a free agent following the season.

That's why, despite a crying need for a starting pitcher, the Yankees keep in touch with Kansas City GM Allard Baird, who wants Trenton (Double-A) catcher Dioner Navarro included in any deal with the Yanks. Baird dispatched scout Pat Jones to New Britain to watch Navarro and infielder Robinson Cano, who was recently shifted from second to third.

Hurting the Yankees in the Beltran and Freddy Garcia chases is they don't have a highly thought of pitching prospect the Royals and Mariners want. Brad Halsey, 23, could be that arm if he pitches well tomorrow against the Dodgers in his major-league debut.

I just don't see the Yanks doing this...

    Then there is this one...

a three way deal with Oakland and the Dodgers...but this one just doesn't seem to work very well to me...

Beltran sweepstakes: Kansas City general manager Allan Baird, who's shopping Carlos Beltran and other Royals, has been in Sacramento to watch a series between the Triple-A teams for the Giants and A's.

The A's could obtain Beltran for one of two reasons, either to send him to another team in a three-way deal (so they could get a closer) or keep him and acquire a high draft choice after he leaves for free agency next winter.

Whichever team acquires Beltran, it would be responsible for the prorated portion of his $9 million salary. If the A's were involved in a three-team deal (one of their specialties), they could trade for Beltran and immediately ship him to a high-revenue club such as Los Angeles -- if the Dodgers would surrender Guillermo Mota, a reliever on the A's radar who's currently in the shadow of Eric Gagne.

Mota for Beltran...you have to be kidding...

But I wouldn't count them out yet.

You know how they love to stick it to Boston.

You wouldn't think they would be in the market for an another outfielder though, not in my opinion. Would seem like they would concentrate more on Big Unit.

Who's to say they don't take Beltran...than work Bernie or Matsui into a deal with Arizona...then sign Beltran to a longterm deal...

Thing is...if they deal for Beltran...and dump that kid that's going to start for them this weekend...they have NO pitching prospects to trade...

The Yanks are going to be in trouble if they get Beltran...Cashman has to know that...prospect wise...if they aren't already...

Minus Soriano...who's that last new prospect that's cracked their lineup?

I couldn't think of one either...

You got that right. Sooner or later you have to reload at the minor league level. I'd say Bernie would be the one to go, his health the last couple seasons being the factor.

The Tigers have been trying since '84, and still haven't done it.

I think the Tigers are on the right track...decent young pitching leading the way...and a couple of smart signings...they aren't there yet...but this is certainly better than fucking JuanGone...what a bust that was...

A three way deal with the A's and Dodgers nixed...

    Beltran to the Dodgers...

Guillermo Mota to the A's to close...

Not sure what the other parts of that were...but those two were the big names...

Houston has entered the fray...but don't want to get involved in a bidding war...so this may be a short run at him...

they could part with Class AAA catcher John Buck, who was a favorite of Royals manager Tony Pena when Pena was managing in the Astros' organization. Third baseman Morgan Ensberg, Class AAA second baseman Chris Burke and Class AA center fielder Willy Tavares also could interest the Royals.

There's also talk with a three way deal with the A's...sending Dotel to the A's...

    The Astro deal fell apart:

magine Carlos Beltran playing center field at Minute Maid Park.

A potential three-way deal that would have sent Beltran to the Astros collapsed earlier this week when the A's backed out for financial reasons, according to major-league sources. The A's would have received closer Octavio Dotel, who is earning $2.8 million this season and stood to make more next season in his final year of arbitration. The Royals would have received A's Triple A third baseman Mark Teahen as part of the package for Beltran.

The Astros are still pursuing Beltran...
