My cousin who lived in Denver died this morning. He told his Mom (my aunt) last night that he needed to go to the hospital and to call an ambulance. He had been sick for the past few years, but would never tell his Mom what was wrong with him. He was diagnosed with advanced cirrhosis of the liver a few years back.
I did not find out until only a couple of hours ago.

My godfather whom I was very close to passed away last Monday after a 6 month battle with bowel cancer. I had just attended his funeral yesterday...then woke up this morning only to hear of MAX too.
Not a good day indeed.
Been thinking all day about this, and can't really find the right words.
Maxi and I had some really good times together on these boards, and then for whatever reason things turned sour, and no matter how many times we tried to bury the hatchet, we ended up just sticking it in our feet and cutting off more toes.
Always admired the guy, and feel terrible for his family and close friends. Been losing too many people lately in life. Today I also found out a terrific guitar player friend passed 2 nights ago as well.
We forget sometimes behind the facade of keyboards and monitors, that it's real people with real lives on the other side.
I never met Jeremy in person, never spoke to him on the phone, yet we certainly touched each others lives over the years.
Gonna miss ya Maxi Pad. Deep down you were a good guy, and you went too young.

Such a sad thing to lose people in our real lives and cyber lives. Both can be equally as touching to our hearts.
In many cases we connect and communicate with our cyber friends more often and frequently than some of our friends and loved ones in the "real" world.
I think the least we (this site) could do is perhaps set up a memorial forum to remember our fallen Roth Army soldiers. A special forum to talk and remember our fellow CVH/DLR fans we shared
the good and bad with. We could have individual dedicated threads were we could post links to some of the classic moments we shared etc...
Maybe some donations to the RA could help secure a bit more bandwidth to get this idea going?! I know I'm a little overdue on my annual donation....

To put MAX's legacy into perspective, he was one of the greatest posters in Army history and one of the greatest in VH/DLR internet land. Period. He definitely had a posting style all his own and always had people's attention no matter what topic he posted about, whether it was about Dave's latest exploits or what he was cooking for dinner that night.
I had sort of an on-off relationship with Jeremy. Originally, we were friends pretty much right from the get-go, then some shit happened here that was silly and we had issues, then we put that behind us and became friends again. Then after I started with RothFans, we really had a great relationship. After I made some mistakes with the site, our friendship soured again. I never had a chance to re-mend that relationship after that. I just hope he never took anything personally and I never meant for anything to be that way. I had wish I had talked to him again, but I'm a stubborn ass sometimes. For the majority of our relationship, he support me up as much as anyone else here.
I will remember Jeremy as a tireless supporter of his friends and online family. I will think fondly of his presence. I know he is at peace. God bless you, Maximus.

I am so sorry to hear this tragic news. I remember Max's posts well - full of passion for Van Halen and I always loved reading what he had to say. I'm pretty sure I read Max's review of a show from the last tour - and that he had a fantastic time. If my memory is right then I am so happy to think that Max saw Dave back with Van Halen. My thoughts are with his family and friends, including you Chef. R.I.P. Max - I will have a drink to you tonight mate.

I don't have much more to add than what has already been said by people who knew MAX better than I. He will certainly be missed here at The Roth Army.
I seem to recall many PMs from MAX asking me about this or that policy or practice, what to do in various situations, complaining about other people and other moderators lol. It was quite hilarious some of the topics he would send my way or involve me in. I was hoping to find some of those old PMs from an old database backup of the forums that I have, and share them with the community, but no luck.
Suffice to say, thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Haven't been here in a year, but somebody Emailed me about this. Never easy forming something to say in a situation like this. I've lost quite a few people to cancer including most of my immediate family so I know what his family is going through. Following that link that DG put up, I see that the celebration of his life is today, and that gave me this idea. We're going out on the annual "Blessing of the fleet" today where they bless all the of the fishing fleet. I have some ashes that are from a friend who died on a bike a year ago and I was going to throw them in the water after we are blessed, before the party starts. I have an old Roth Army tee that is too spent to wear anymore that I saved . I printed a picture from his avatar to put with it. I also included a rock from one of the local beaches that is know for these weird stripped rocks that people like to make fireplaces out of, and and is marked like the stripes on Ed guitars. I'm gonna wrap this all up and toss it into the waters of Cape Cod bay for him. He had Excitedly PMed me about DG and him coming down here to party and take in the local seafood (lobster rolls particularly), but alas, fate did not allow. I'd like to think that in some small way, This is a fitting sendoff from this end.
Max will make his splash in Cape Cod Bay after all......
