VHND + Melodicrock VH Rumor Round-Up

Take. It. For. What. It's. Worth. From Melodicrock:

    http://www.melodicrock.com/

VAN HALEN - NEW ALBUM RUMOUR ROUND-UP:
Dear rabid Van Halen fans - if you are looking for a factually infallible, dead on, "here are the facts" news update....this ain't it!

But seriously, a news report that does fit that description isn't far away as David Lee Roth tells us to "Get Ready..." (www.davidleeroth.com) and Van Halen actually open up a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/VanHalen). And Alter Bridge/Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti (friend of Wolfgang) starts yakking after sitting in on the trio of Van Halen's playing new songs live in the studio - reporting back that the band used ''old demos for inspiration for new material" (http://www.vhlinks.com/vbforums/mark...ew-t52379.html).

Plus the band are also hitting to road for the first time since 2007 with dates in Australia in 10 weeks' time. So we know something's happening right?

Right! But when are we going to really hear something official and when will we hear the first new Van Halen material since 2004 and the first new album with David Lee Roth since 1983? Soon folks....

What we know is that the album is done and mixed...John Shanks finishing production work on it earlier this year (with other producer names likely to appear inside the album credits.) The rumoured album title is VH '11, 2011 (or Two Zero One One to be precise) and all rumours point to a mid/late September release.

A single was again rumoured to hit airwaves this weekend, but failed to happen.

What I have previously stated is that I personally believe the new album will be released in October, after Van Halen return home from Australia and a single could likely appear late this month or in August.

I am hoping to have some more precise information from a source close to official goings on later this week. Stay tuned...

But in the meantime, I was contacted last week by an anonymous source with a summary of rumours and "inside" information they happened to be privy to. Ok....due to the demand from fans wanting to hear about anything Van Halen related to keep them busy while counting down the seconds to hell freezing over (the new album appearing in store), here is a summary of the information I was sent.

This is certainly not being printed as gospel or fact, but merely as yet another in the series of much loved Van Halen Rumor Reports that have been printed over the last decade of this band's colourful history. So with that disclaimer in place....here goes folks....

    RUMOUR ROUND UP!

    - Eddie Van Halen was apparently prepared to tour again with no new album, reluctant to produce new songs. David Lee Roth and especially Wolfgang Van Halen wanted to record new tracks. Wolfgang Van Halen finally convinced his father that he didn't want to go out on tour to replace Michael Anthony, with no new material and without David Lee Roth's input.

    - It is suggested that the music was the main thing in EVH's mind and David Lee Roth was asked only to contribute lyrics.

    - Seventeen songs were prepared in demo form. One was an instrumental. Fourteen songs were properly recorded. This includes the instrumental. A couple of tracks are likely to be held over as bonus tracks for various uses. Management are currently negotiating with specialist retailers for a deal to release the album, with these bonus tracks possible to make an appearance if an agreement is reached.

    - Because of distributing/promotion matters, the release date of first single is still up in the air, although it will (apparently) 'definitely' happen no later than 2nd week of August. The album is expected to be ready to ship in September. [I still say October...].

    - Only two tracks feature keyboards of any type. One is the instrumental which briefly features piano. The other features keyboards in the intro, and 'lightly' in the chorus.

    - Although Wolfang Van Halen did not write any of the lyrics to the new album, he had a bass solo he was preparing that he titled "Hurricanes", for which David Lee Roth wrote lyrics with the same working title. It is unclear if this song will be included on the album, but it was recorded in demo-form.

    - The album title has not been chosen at this point. Many rumours have surfaced... Two likely working titles may be in the running which are "VH '11" and "Two Zero One One". Rumored titles that have not been officially dismissed by band members however are "Mammoth" and "Play".
This information has surfaced because of proposed artwork for the new album which at this point features a brown circle on a glass table with a silver and red Van Halen logo emblazoned upon it (the circle which looks like an M&M). There is a rumour that the brown circle is supposed to represent both the "Brown Sound" of Van Halen and also the infamous M&M chocolate candy contract rider of years past. The proposed artwork does not show all edges of the circle due to a possible 'infringement' with the candy-maker. Rather the outer edges of the circle are 'cut-off' by the square-edged artwork. The reverse side of the album jacket features all four members standing by a garden like area shot in a sepia tone. This photo and others were taken in May on the grounds of Edward Van Halen's studio, 5150. Inner booklet/lyric sheets photos were also shot in and around 5150. [Not sure about this folks...but I guess we'll know soon enough...]

    - Two songs recorded have been selected as singles. One song sounding like an early era Van Halen combination of "Beautiful Girls/Jamie's Crying", and the other song sounding more in the vein of "Unchained"/"Drop Dead Legs" (this one features a very lengthy guitar solo by comparison).

    - Although no song titles are 'confirmed' at this point, some of the 'working' song titles were/are: "Hurricanes", "Stop Talking" (which is one of the possible first two singles), "Down This Road", and "Who's Looking Back At You?". Other titles have been mentioned, only these four keep resurfacing.

So what do you think folks? It could be a rather detailed exclusive inside look at what's to come...or...not! It's a fun read at very least and further heightens the anticipation of the album and official information. Information I'll do my best to bring forth ASAP. But until then, enjoy the speculation!

Terrific. Instead of performing some applicable use by coming up with solid work and creating a credible story based upon valid contacts (of which he has none), we get more unsubstantiated rumors mixed with pure conjecture in the by now predictable fashion from the usual site. This is done for three reasons:

    1. It completely alleviates any responsibility from melodicrock if the "details" fail to pan out, not that he has ever bothered taking that responsibility or offered any sort of retractions before.
    2. It offers the illusion that the site is involved and "inside" what is taking place with the VH camp. This is utterly false.
    3. It conveniently allows a bunch of pointless and source-free rumor-mongering to be displayed, rather than some good old-fashioned, well reasoned journalism. In a word, laziness.

All this accomplishes is to stoke the fires of anticipation already burning in the hearts and minds of Van Halen fans, and to give the impression that melodicrock is to be taken seriously. The former is totally unnecessary, while the latter is absurdly laughable.

Spot on Chef. I've said it before, after reading a number of Melodicrock's reports over the years, I've no doubt his source(s) are from the Sammy Hagar camp. When Van Hagar reunited, he was the first to report it and throughout their ill-fated tour he was also fairly consistent. Someone from Sammy's camp was feeding him. And keep in mind that Andrew has stated that Van Hagar is his favourite version of the band and he did once interview Sammy, so he's motivated to find sources in that camp. But since Sammy was thrown out, Melodicrock has only been able to re-hash reports from others, or come up with stuff like this - rumours. And there's always something negative in his Van Halen reports these days - gee I wonder why that is - such as "David Lee Roth was asked only to contribute lyrics."

This report is about generating attention for the website.

It is uncanny how history repeats itself, ya know? Compare the following to melodicrock's "info"...

    From VHND August 2, 2000

    "Track listing for the forthcoming Van Halen album: 01 - Stick it Out, 02 - Redline Deadline, 03 - Top-down 60 and Smile, 04 - A Toast..., 05 - Shooting Star, 06 - Independent's Day, 07 - Phoenix Jam, 08 - Lucy Likes Six-inch Spikes, 09 - The Neutron Sound, 10 - Midnight Boogie, 11 - Adrenaline Push, 12 - Sabulossa, 13 - Zipperface, 14 - 2K, 15 - Guys and Dolls, 16 - Third Time Aground."

    From VHND December 7, 2000

"As each day passes, we get closer to the "big day" - the day that Van Halen and David Lee Roth officially confirm their reunion. Until that day comes, the silence continues and the rumours get more elaborate.

Today at the "Pleasure Dome", the message board at the official Van Halen web site, a number of posts appeared from an anonymous person with the username of "Michael Jackson". In his replys to several threads, "Michael" gave the impression that he knew what was going on with the band. When asked to elaborate, "Michael" had no hesitation in opening up and spilling some dirt.

A link to "Michael's" message is provided below if you want to read it all for yourself, but here is a quick summary of what he said. Please remember that these are his words, not mine!

    Dave is back.
The new album is finished, the artwork is done and the title has been chosen.
It will be a full album with 13 tracks - not another 'Best Of'.
The health of band members is not the reason for the delay.
The announcement will not happen before Christmas.
The announcement and first single will be forthcoming before Groundhog Day (February 2).
The album will be released before St. Patrick's day (March 17).
A tour will begin shortly after the album is released.

Normally I'd put this sort of information on the rumours page, but "Michael" seems pretty convincing. Sure, anybody can register as a user on the Van Halen Message Board and post whatever they like, but not many people have come forward with this sort of information.

I'll leave it up to you whether to believe him."

Yes and it's very appreciated that you and others post whatever is going for news these days with all the made up stuff that we've dealt with I'd imagine you cringe a little bit before posting new info.

The skeptic inside says why would somebody at the art department be leaking information about a band that never wants to tell fans anything (think repeat business).

It would be great to all pool together after the album is released and not buy it!!! We would have the power of thousands of fans holding back millions of dollars. We could start rummers of a purchase date and jerk off Eddie and Alex for the next three years !!!! Make them have to come to these boards every day and try to figure out when their pay day will take place. We could string them along just like they did with all of us.
Dave would be loving every miniute of it!!!

    My fuckin favorite parts.

Great just rumours. I do not give a rat's ass....it is happening...and I never thought I would be alive to see it.

    ROTH ON!

I never really cared for his song, this version doesn't make me feel differently. Dave looks so stiff up there, like a used car salesman or something and Eds solo was fair at best. I'm still hoping for the best but Im reminded of that July 4th when Dave did Jump with the Boston Pops or whoever. There's no chemistry in this clip, hope their time in the studio fixed that. Excuse me while I go put Fair Warning on for a bit.

Been thinking of Pops all weekend.

Heater. All that can be said is that this is new Van Halen.

I remember watching this live on TV. Loved the part when Dave did the baton twirl thing. Funny, more people probably saw this performance than the entirety of the 2004 abomination.

although Wolfgang didn't write any lyrics? Was anybody expecting him to?

I thought how bad someone could see these song titles and think it was legit, and then the old second thought came around and that was that half of them sound like they could be Hagar titles. lu lu lucy like six inch spikes

I wonder if the sheer lack of info on the album is a testament to a decline of journalistic skills; or a decline in interest in VH.

    What a fucking joke.

So Melodicrock is now leading with anonymous emails?

That's an amazing invitation for trolls, I'm away to write next weeks update. If you see the song title Felch you'll know I've got one through the rigorous journalism of that site which is less reliable than the average teenager posting comments on YouTube...

100 kind of worthless lines about VH's album on melodicrook, 2 words on Dave's site that mean a damn lot...

Dave's silence was by far our best guarantee that something was truely going on, now these two words are
largely enough for me till the release.

Melodicrock has been wrong far too often about Van Halen for me to start buying into this latest round of rumormongering. Doesn't matter to me if the site ran a disclaimer regarding their source or not; if they put the rumors up on their site, they're the ones responsible for them panning out or not.

If some new music with Roth is, in fact, forthcoming, that'd be great. Am pretty much to the point now where it isn't gonna be all that upsetting if it doesn't come to pass. I mean, should nothing be released it isn't gonna be anywhere near the letdown for me that the 1996 debacle was. 15 years of false starts and a mediocre reunion tour have kinda put the kibosh on my enthusiasm for the future of the band, knowwhadImean?

What's scary is nobody has seen or heard from Dave. I sure as hell hope Ed and Al don't have him locked up in the basement of Eddie's house of horrors in a gimp outfit.

After all the shit we give the Wolfster, wouldn't it be ironic for him to wind up being the protector of the flame along with Roth?

In each of their ways they're definitely hungrier than the other two.

Now he is a bit older I wonder what the chances are of Wolfie being taken out to the strip bars with Roth on the next tour...

I have to figure the odds are pretty damn good... He'll be 21 in March. What I'd give to hang out with Uncle Dave... goddamn that kid is lucky!

I think the most encouraging sign is that Davidleeroth.com does say, "Get ready." That has got to mean that this thing is about the break or at worst he is about to move on and get cranked up solo again.

This report was posted on Eddie Trunk's site this morning going into further detail as to what Tremonti heard at the studio. He is claiming the band minus Dave played the entire album for him and told him they took old demos and made songs out of those ideas which in turn gives it the vintage Van Halen sound. Trunk also comments on Dave's site having the message "Get Ready."

Check out the photo of the band at the bottom. Was this from 2007 and i just missed it?
