Holy crap, you'd think the world was ending around here. Actually got half a day off from work yesterday (not like I'm complaining!) for this it is so big. The 405 is one of the busiest freeways in the country and it's going to be closed between the 101 and the 10 (pretty sizable chunk) for 53 hours while new lanes are added. Pretty massive undertaking, with bonus possible-rattlesnake encounters for the road construction workers...win!

So tired of hearing about this too. Was flipping through some of the higher cable channels last night on the guide & saw one that was totally dedicated to this all weekend. Ridiculous. Even the crummy Mayor of LA has been making the rounds on the national news shows.

I would like one of those rattlesnake warning signs though.

I notice they hired Kiewit Construction. They hired the best. So they aren't going with the lowest bidder on this project.

The last time I was in Beijing, China the had built massive freeways just like Los Angeles and the traffic was at a complete stand still. When I went there in the early 80's it was all bicycles or people walking. Now there aren't any bike paths or lanes. There aren't even crosswalks or sidewalks in some places. Try riding a bike or walking somewhere and you take a big risk of getting hit by a car. Without a car you are screwed in Beijing. The Chinese had the opportunity to build a modern city from the ground up and what they did was copy Los Angeles and all the mistakes made there.
