Nuno is a fucking witch on the guitar. Amazing. I still like to listen to Pornografitti every once in a while and it always blows me away the shit he can do. So underrated.
“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”
Nuno is badass. I dig the mix of shred and funk. I always would have liked for him to be with a better singer, I can't stand Cherone's voice.
Gary works in EXTREME.....very underrated band...too bad Grunge buried them...
Nuno is a monster
Nuno IS a monster, and deserves the respect of spelling his last name correctly...it's not like he's Amerdinnerjacket or somebody!!
Noonobeddinga y ??
I never saw Ga y in action besides VHIII
He's just as Ga y...
Nuno is good though...
This is certainly better than More than Turds, Hole In My Ass, or anything from VDIII......

Is there anyone as good as Bettingshop that manages to do it with his guitar slung so low?
I remember Roth bitching about Extreme(on his radio show I think).
Maybe he was still sore about the Cherone VHIII thing.
Nuno is kind of like a cross between Steve Vai and Yngwie. I don't like his tone and I don't see anything really original in his playing. I can tell who he borrowed his licks from.
God I HATE Gary's singing. It actually makes me ill.
Bump.
Nothing like some blistering guitar playing and mild homoeroticism to get the day off to a good start, makes you feel glad to be inadequate...
Funny thing just occurred to me reading your post...imagine if instead of messing around with Joe Holmes and Bart Walsh, what if Dave had gotten Nuno instead after Becker had to bow out?
I think Extreme was just about at the top of their game at that time. Doubt it would have happened.
All the guys in that band are really fucking good (yes even Gary, I'll guarantee he's a better singer that everybody who has posted in this thread), but it's the songs that lack IMO. The subject matter is juvenile, the goal is hits and not substance, and it just seems silly to me. Cherone's stage presence isn't my taste either, but I seriously doubt he's gay, not that it should matter if he is or not. There's been plenty of gay performers that have thoroughly rocked.
Sure, Nuno has his influences but I don't think he wears them on his sleeve like he's been accused of in this thread. Anybody that has played the guitar in a "metal" band since 1980 has been influenced by EVH and Malmsteen Haven't they? I know I have. It's just that Nuno is 10 times the guitar player that most of them are. He's got the chops, he's got a style that's funky and heavy, and he's a great guitarist in my book.
That being said, I don't listen to Extreme.
It's a shame that families should be torn apart by something as simple as....wild dogs
Everything Nuno has done outside of Extreme has learned me that A. I like his voice better than Garys and B. His lyrics are better than Garys. Nuno is essentially another Prince, only more rippin' in my opinion.
I also think he probably sounds like some other guitarists unintentionally as so many use the similar scales and sounds. At times he reminds me of Ronni Le Tekro from TNT especially on the rhythms. It's all good.
You guys should snag his first solo album.
I've always thought the solo to "Play With Me" is one of the all-time greats.

Dramagods was different - had keyboards, but still heavy and cool...
Pornograffiti is a classic - I just wish that Extreme hadn't been so clean cut and let it hang out a bit, their style was too pristine IMO.
Their later albums were a little odd, though. They take themselves WAY too seriously.
Nuno manages to shred like a monster and not over-power the song - that's quite a line.
The Power Of The Riff Compels Me
The childish lyrics did grate a bit too.
'Momma don't want to go to school today'.
Maybe if it had at least been Adult Learning Centre...
I know what you mean about the lyrics, but 'childish' isn't quite right. If anything, Gary wrote lyrics which aimed for profound and missed (especaially on 'Pornograffiti' and 'Three Sides To Every Story').
It was consciously moving away from the sex, drugs and rock'n' roll cliches which digged the Sunset Strip scene. That's fine, and quite brave, I guess. The problem is that they did social commentary in a trite and under-cooked manner. Morevoer, the lyrical subjects seems at odds with the good-time music they were making.
They definitely missed.
If you are going to do stuff like this then better to stick to songs about screwing chicks.
First things first we're gonna change the rules
Better listen up, all you boys and girls
Your prez says there'll be no after school
So vote for me wouldn't that be cool
(Yeah!) Yeah! (Yeah!) Yeah!
Now I know there's trouble in the Middle East
I'll spend all my money when I stop the Arms Race
All my brothers in the desert
Gonna have themselves a feast
When that's done then we'll start on (world peace)
Man, that Nuno sure can rip.... I respect his skill, which is obviously amazing, but I get tired of it after about 10-15 minutes... It really makes me appreciate what separates Eddie from the 'shredders' - he can play as fast and aggressive, but he still has one foot in the blues or something similar that makes it sound energetic, fun and human.... Nuno, and players like him, sound a bit cold and calculated to me.
Watching that through just reminded me how awesome the riff to 'He-Man Woman Hater' is. Monstrous!
Yeah, I remember the 1st time I played that riff for a fellow bandmember after coming home from work with the CD...he was like "Oh my GOD, this guy is good!"
I'd have to disagree with VAIN's assessment that his playing is cold and sterile (he did mention that was in his opinion, which he's entitled to as an Uh-merican), IMO he's one of the few "shredders" that's not only still growing as a player 20 years later, but can (still and always could) write great songs with killer hooks. AND unlike a lot of his peers, as Bin mentioned, he understands the concept of restraint, never shredding over the ENTIRE tune.
As a non-guitar player, would I be correct in thinking that 'The Flight of The Wounded Bumble-Bee' is complex even by shredder stnadards?
