Cheap Trick blows the roof off...literally!

I only joke because no one died. Not like they were playing "Desert Moon" or anything here. But Cheap Trick is the greatest live band ever. So I'm not surprised they blew the roof off the joint for real finally. I've seen them a few times and I swear the roofs nearly were blown off every time. I can't think of a better band for this to happen to.

This video probably shows the collapse better than that ridiculous ABC commercial does. Though you'll miss it if you blink (and turn the volume down because the sound on this one really BLOWS)

Meanwhile, Cheap Trick has issued a statement..... "We're all alright. We're all alright. We're all alright. We're all alright."

It's amazing how few people were seriously injured. If the structure had collapsed forward into the audience (rather than back and in on itself), you can only imagine how many people could have been hurt.

I really wanna know what song they were playing when this happened. It was 20 minutes in so I'm guessing Surrender or Dream Police. Because Cheap Trick doesn't save the best stuff for last, they open with all guns blazing and hit you with every hit song you can imagine all in a row. BAM POW BIFF SPLAT!

I think this is where the Bush Admin got the idea for Shock & Awe. The first 30 minutes of a Cheap Trick show.

I was actually going to go to this, since I live outside Ottawa. I was just too tired to go and brave a festival crowd, and I've seen Cheap Trick before. They are great live. Apparently they had just finished I Want You To Want Me, and the sounds and lights were killed, and the band was told to get off. The stage collapsed right after they left the stage.

Was at a local radio station with some friends last night as some friends of mine were being featured on a 'local band' sorta show. There was a monitor in the studio and that came on while we were in there. Tripped us all out.

Reason #136 of why I hate Lounge.

Jealousy is an ugly thing. You get to meet a ton of cool musicians. I met Mick Brown of Dokken once. And once I saw Stephen Pearcys mom on the freeway. I wanna meet Robin Zander too

I once got a ride from the taxi driver who used to take Stuart Adamson from Big Country's mum to the shops.

    True story!

Looks like we got a similar incident at a show with the country band Sugarland. Sadly, three people at this event weren't so lucky ........

Stage collapses at Indiana State Fair before Sugarland show
    August 13, 2011 | 8:16 pm

A stage collapsed at the Indiana State Fair moments before the county band Sugarland was to perform, killing at least three people and injuring others, according to the Indianapolis Star and the Associated Press.

Strong winds sweeping through the fairgrounds about 9 p.m. may have caused the stage rigging to collapse, according to the Star.

Emergency crews were evacuating concertgoers and were attempting to rescue others trapped beneath the rigging, the newspaper reported.

This YouTube video, above, was uploaded moments after the collapse. It shows the stage tumbling forward on top of fans and the chaos afterward. "Oh my God, Oh my God," one woman can be heard saying.

Shortly after the accident, Sugarland tweeted: "We are all right. We are praying for our fans, and the people of Indianapolis. We hope you will join us. They need our strength."

Concertgoer Amy Weathers told the newspaper that "it was like in slow motion. You couldn't believe it was actually happening."

Yeah, saw that on the news tonight. People just out on a summer Saturday to enjoy the fair & some music and perhaps some cotton candy/caramel apple. And this shit happens. Moral of the story?

Don't hold grudges, and to the people you love, love them with everything you got. And the people you hate? Fuck em. Hate is not the opposite of love, indifference is. Don't waste your time. Enjoy every second you can. Which makes me even more angry with EVH for squandering so much precious time. Just thinking of the brothers we have lost here and knowing they won't get to unwrap that new VH cd infuriates the hell out of me.

I always loved concerts at The Gorge, which is naturally a windy place even on a good day. I never had any thoughts about the stage collapsing in the middle of a show. Now I'll probably be slightly paranoid at any outdoor concert I go to.

(Though at least the Phil Keaggy show last weekend went off without incident. Guess it helps if JC is a fan?)

That's two in one month. They're going to have to rethink the way they're constructing these stages. Even if thousands of shows go off without a hitch, there's clearly a danger as soon as high winds start.
