Harvard Study Finds Cannabis Cuts Tumor Growth In Half In Three Weeks

A Harvard study from 2007 which remains the most comprehensive ever released on THC’s potential to combat tumors found that in just three weeks doses of THC were able to cut lung cancer tumor growth in half in mice subjects, and were able to reduce cancer lesions by even more.

For the study, Harvard researchers tested THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, which is found naturally in cannabis) on cancer cells in labs, and followed that up by studying mice subjects.

The lab demonstration found that doses of THC inhibited growth and spread in the cancer cells; “When the cells are pretreated with THC, they have less EGFR stimulated invasion as measured by various in-vitro assays,” states Anju Preet, PhD, who was one of the researchers for the study.

Following the lab test, researchers dosed mice – which were implanted with human lung cancer cells – with THC, and found that in just three weeks, tumors were reduced in both size and weight by roughly 50% compared to a control group. According to Preet, cancer lesions on the lungs were also reduced – by nearly 60% – and there was as a significant reduction in “protein markers” associated with cancer progression.

Researchers predict that THC had such a positive effect on combating tumors because it activates molecules that arrest the cell cycle, and may also interfere with the processes of angiogenesis and vascularization, which lead to cancer growth.

Over 6 years since its original release, this study remains one of the most important cannabis-related studies ever released.

    I need to try this:

    http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Marijuana-Tea

...some honey and a shot of whiskey

"Note: Be prepared to get very stoned. Even with only a 1/2 gram this recipe is much stronger then it seems. Many people have felt the effects for up to 12 hours from consuming the tea!

No, it's the shit I get down the street sold to me by this new age-type weirdos - the kind that light patchouli incense their store and play music of Andreas Vollenweider all god damn day long. Tea pot (geddit?) is a wholly different high if you make it right.

It is not just "tea" Krusty. You are more ignorant a software bot than I thought. You are programmed to act as though I do not know what you are talking about.

Just more ignorance on the part of your programmers. Someone should have hit the delete button instead of allowing your programming onto the net, Krusty Hatebot.

Cannabis Consumption Has No Negative Effect On Health, According To New Study

A new study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, and conducted by researchers at Boston Medical Center and the Boston University School of Medicine, has found that even heavy cannabis consumption has no negative effect on a person’s health status, or their use of health care services (such as emergency room visits).

For the study, researchers studied 589 adults who screened positive for drug use during a primary care visit. Data was then collected on these patients, examining their drug use, their emergency room use and hospitalizations, and their overall health status. In addition, further information regarding past medical diagnoses was obtained from their medical records.

After conducting the study, researchers found absolutely no differences between the health and hospitalization of daily cannabis consumers, compared to those who use no cannabis at all.

“Our findings suggest that marijuana use has little measurable effect on self-reported health or healthcare utilization in adults using drugs identified in a primary care clinic,” says Daniel Fuster, MD, the lead author for the study.

This study combats the prohibitionist argument that tax revenue brought in through cannabis legalization will be offset by increased healthcare costs.

The Next Mayor Of New York City Supports Marijuana Decriminalization

The primaries are over, and New York City has narrowed down its mayoral candidates to three; Republican Joseph Lhota, Democrat Bill de Blasio and Independent Adolfo Carrión, Jr.. All of these candidates are supporters of cannabis law reform, and are in favor of decriminalizing or legalizing cannabis.

Joseph Lhota was actually the first New York City mayoral candidates to come out in support of recreational cannabis legalization. Bill De Blasio is in support of decriminalizing cannabis, including public display; ”I support legislation to decriminalize the display of small amounts of marijuana,” he said during an interview in July, ”The current law saddles many young people with a criminal record unfairly and it must be changed.”

Carrión, Jr., the city’s Independent candidate, is also in strong support of decriminalizing cannabis.

Regardless of which candidate becomes the city’s next mayor, it’s clear that their view on cannabis policies will be drastically different from that of Mayor Bloomberg.

This is a major blow to any argument the DEA or conservative lawmakers could ever come up with to explain why pot is against the law:

National Cancer Institute: Cannabis Has Antitumor Capabilities, Is An Appetite Stimulant And Painkiller

In claims that are in vast contrast to those of the Drug Enforcement Administrationand other government entities, the government-funded National Cancer Institute has a report published on its website which proclaims several benefits of cannabis and cannabinoids, citing numerous scientific studies to back their claims. The page was updated last month.

The report starts by explaining what cannabinoids are;”Cannabinoids are a group of 21-carbon-containing terpenophenolic compounds produced uniquely by Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica species”, the report continues, “These plant-derived compounds may be referred to as phytocannabinoids. Although delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the primary psychoactive ingredient, other known compounds with biologic activity are cannabinol, cannabidiol (CBD), cannabichromene, cannabigerol, tetrahydrocannabivarin, and delta-8-THC. CBD, in particular, is thought to have significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity without the psychoactive effect (high) of delta-9-THC.”

The report then goes on to talk about the potential antitumor capabilities of cannabis and cannabinoids.

“One study in mice and rats suggested that cannabinoids may have a protective effect against the development of certain types of tumors.” They continue; “Cannabinoids may cause antitumor effects by various mechanisms, including induction of cell death, inhibition of cell growth, and inhibition of tumor angiogenesis invasion and metastasis. One review summarizes the molecular mechanisms of action of cannabinoids as antitumor agents. Cannabinoids appear to kill tumor cells but do not affect their nontransformed counterparts and may even protect them from cell death.”

The NCI clearly doesn’t agree with the government’s stance that cannabis has “no accepted medical value”.

According to the report; “An in vitro study of the effect of CBD on programmed cell death in breast cancer cell lines found that CBD induced programmed cell death, independent of the CB1, CB2, or vanilloid receptors. CBD inhibited the survival of both estrogen receptor-positive and estrogen receptor-negative breast cancercell lines, inducing apoptosis in a concentration-dependent manner while having little effect on nontumorigenic, mammary cells.”

In addition, the report states, “both plant-derived and endogenous cannabinoids have been studied for anti-inflammatory effects.”

After giving a comprehensive report on the potential anti-tumor capabilities of cannabis, theNational Cancer Institute then goes on to speak about cannabis as an effective painkiller, and as an appetite stimulant.

This report, which cites dozens of scientific references, should be something that cannabis advocates share far and wide. It’s the government openly admitting that cannabis has some intense medicinal qualities.

Sure, I have been posting stuff like this over the past year or two.

    But this is major shit.

This is the POSITION of the NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE.

    Funded by the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

It is only a matter of time now.

And the Republican politicians in DC are such a joke, they won't be able to stop it either. Fucking dumb motherfuckers.

Appears the Feds like their private-for-profit prison system a wee bit too much:

I hear a lot of your stoner friends and legalization advocates suggest taxation of marijuana as a source of government income and to further their cause to legalize. I guess you got what you asked for, right? What idiots. Kristy says... D'oh!

Yeah, I guess so, fuckface where the VOTERS not the stoners pushed for the tax rate. Even with the high tax there better be some beautiful looking schools in this state - whereas your racist, red redneck shithole will continue to fester like the well, shithole it is. Go hang another engine block from your front tree and just shut the fuck up, okay?

"Beautiful looking schools"? Ninja please. That's not what makes students smarter and teachers better. I guess kids and teachers on dope will equate to precocious graduates. Now seriously where will that tax money go?? I admit I don't know. Teacher salaries to support shitty teachers and average teachers?

This country's citizenry is so fucked, and I'm not blaming legalization.

Everything should be legal. Just let people do what the fuck they want. It would thin out the population and the smarter people would manage to avoid getting killed. It would be good for the gene pool. The world is an ugly tree in dire need of a pruning.

So apparently there was some major growing operation up in Canada that got busted, and it was guarded by bears or some shit?

I haven't read this anywhere, but this Russian TV anchor looks like she's been hitting the bong herself, the way she's laughing at the story......

Gary "Bad Rug" Johnson (Libertarian Candidate 2012) Cashes In On Legal Weed

Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson named CEO of pot firm

    Tue Jul 1, 2014 8:07pm EDT

(Reuters) - Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson will serve as president and CEO of a Nevada-based company working to develop marijuana products for sale in states where the drug is legal, such as Washington and Colorado, he said on Tuesday.

Johnson, the 2012 Libertarian party nominee for U.S. president and a longtime supporter of marijuana legalization, was named to the position with Cannabis Sativa Inc as part of the company's acquisition of another marijuana-related company, Kush.

Colorado and Washington state, in 2012 ballot measures, became the first U.S. states to legalize, regulate and tax marijuana for recreational use at the state level, despite a federal ban on the drug.

Colorado at the beginning of this year allowed marijuana retail stores to open, and Washington state officials plan to do the same this month. Twenty-two states and the District of Columbia allow medical marijuana.

Kush founder Steve Kubby, whose company has developed marijuana strains and products, will serve as the chairman of the merged company, according to a statement from the company.

"With the legalization of marijuana in Colorado and Washington, we are already seeing that the demand is significant. We believe the opportunity is here to deliver products that could change the world for the better," Johnson said in a statement.

Johnson, who had run a large construction company, was elected governor of New Mexico in 1994 as a Republican and served two terms, leaving office in January 2003.

Just a short personal note here.... got high today for the first time in fuck knows when. It had nothing what so ever to do with the legal retail shops though, because this rollout has been so horribly managed. Though several licenses were issued in this county, only one retailer was actually opened the first week that licenses were issued, and they sold out the first day. So despite it being legal, it's currently impossible to buy weed here legally. Washington state really fucked up this rollout process compared to Colorado.
