    Rock Of Ages

    wow...

You know, in theory it could make sense to make a fictional movie about a rock band that was on the sunset strip (upcoming Motley movie, but again fictionalized), maybe put together a great soundtrack with some songs by a group like Steel Panther.

this? looks like a vomit induced playlist of 80's rock mixed in with glee and some meh actors.

The theory has worked before, with varying degrees of success. Happy Days did it for the fifties, The Wonder Years did it for the sixties, That Seventies Show for the obvious, so why not a movie/musical for the mid to late eighties? Hardly something to take seriously.

But I have to agree, Tom Freakin'-Cruise? Talk about a miscast character, unless that character just happens to be a 50 year old man running around shirtless in black leather pants. Even so...yechh.

I keep hearing from a british friend of mine that England got really sick of him, and kind of went "ENOUGH!". so he's peddling his "talents" over here. He also recommended me to check out Charlie Broker, who is indeed fucking awesome.

I saw the show when it was down here and really enjoyed it... they opened the show with 'Just like paradise', so that was good.. very enjoyable show with great actors. The movie, on the other hand, looks not so awesome...

Yeah, but those actually seemed to try to develop the characters a bit. They kind of had a story around them.

When I watch that 70's show, I'm not watching it for a retro feel, I'm watching it because it's a good sitcom that just so happened to be set in the 70's.

Is there such a lack of original ideas out there that they have to take Broadway shows and make them films and vice versa?

Shit, I have ideas! How do you reach Tom Cruise?

Hollywood has been adapting plays and musicals since the invention of film, so in a way it's traditional. What kills me is all of the preposterous remakes. I mean really, a Karate Kid film without karate but with a rap soundtrack? Footloose as a boring movie that belongs on CMT? And all of the countless television shows "re-imagined" as lame comedies?

Christ, there are about a billion books in the Library of Congress, but the brightest idea these screen writers can come up with is an unfunny version of Starsky & Hutch?

Oh, by the way...this makes me hurl, and doubtless it will make several others here do the same. Rumor has it, a Point Break remake is in pre-production as well.

The only thing missing from this movie is that mean track-suit wearing tacoslapper to make it a 2-hour episode of Glee.....
