Actually, there are many ways to compare Ed to Frank Cross, Bill Murray's character in Scrooged. Was a cute young kid, Daddy broke his ass to put the meats on the table, became a hard working young adult while everyone partied their asses off, worked his way up to being the best of his business, had a drinking problem, drove the love of his life away with his selfishness and insanity, made everyone hate him and then eventually, was considered an OK guy after all. I'm sure, to many, the jury may still be out on the 'OK guy' part, but perty damn similar lives if ya ask me.

The Mike Anthony thing was the final nail for me.

When that band was starting, Ed was very impressed with Mike Anthony's playing - that's what made him ask about Mike when Mike was in another band. So, then after he is in Ed's band, Ed limits him to playing very simple stuff so that his guitar playing would have the proper canvas to shine on (I agree with the philosophy to a degree). Mike sticks with Ed no matter what Ed says and fully supports the Hagar thing and all...but when Ed pulls the same backstabbing BS on Sam that he did on Dave, Mike stays neutral.

So Ed is infuriated because Mike won't hate Sam. Well, I was never a Hagar fan - not even a speck. So after the Cherone Baloney Pony experiment fails Ed gives Mike a chance to tour with a 'reunion' version of Sam Halen/Van Hagar/Shit Salad and he signs on the dotted line meanwhile also signing his Van Halen credentials away. Ed is a backstabbing piece of crap in my opinion.

It's pretty bad when I have more respect for the crappy replacement singer that I hated for what seems like forever (Hagar) than I have for Ed who really, when it comes down to it, just got LUCKY as a flashy guitarist could have been when he was essentially using Dave for his PA. Ed stabbed everyone in the back that he could except Alex and now he's got his kid in there - please...make this joke stop. Dave's personality fuelled that band. If Hagar was the singer from day one then 'Van Halen' wouldn't even have been the name and they would have been less of a chapter in Rock N Roll history than Venom.

If it all started with Van Hagar in 1978 --- I could see them maybe becoming as popular as Loverboy or Night Ranger.

However, I think there's a weird law of physics that says the Universe can not have two Journeys existing in the same place at the same time --- so maybe they would have disappeared a lot quicker.
