Album Sales predictions-What do you think?

    Pollstar expects 200,000-250,000 1st week.

I'll try and be realistic but will say 375,000 units. I will buy 2 regular for car & special edition for home.

Dave said no vinyl at this point.

Thursday wife see's this set-up, rolled eyes and went upstairs saying she wished she could get this excited for something. My bro's wife said same to him. Must PACE this, do not plan on overdoing this year. She is good for 1 with me and another 1 or 2 max. If I do 7 it will not be conducive to having wife & kids

    Mission control..
uStream for big monitor, old mac VHND & active laptop-Army & WARF Twitter, iPhone everything in between. F uStream's farce, it's up now showing some band. They just pulled plug on it last night!

all is good as the 4 clips from dead center pretty much got whole show with good HD & tolerable sound. 24 hrs after event satisfied seeing all pics & vids......& WARF owning the place

So what is the reason for NO VINYL?!

I predict 250 to 300 thousand the first week.

Hello Sarge, in the video where Dave does the signing out front of CafeWha? He says "I don't know if were going to do vinyl." I would bet a year or two of great sales they do wind up with limited edition vinyl run.

Some bands are using Apollo Masters. Aluminum substrate for highest quality lacquer masters, if 6-pack was done by them we'd have another treat. Most done by hand & long process but worth it.

Regardless.....I see this album as selling more than any other album in recent history.....you only have 33 YEARS OF FUCKING VAN HALEN FANS....who have been waiting 28 YEARS for this!

And of course, the figures you guys are throwing around are for first WEEK.

I say platinum in a month. 6 weeks tops.

Black Ice did 98.000 in the first week I think. That was a big number for a rock band. If VH does close to 200 that is huge !

Did VH III sell that many total?

I hope there are HUGE endcaps of this new cd with lots of advertising in each store. I'm sure there will be. Gotta make friends with a Best Buy employee to snag me the merchandise holders once they take them down.

Consider the band has not one but two Diamond status albums.....

If it doesn't at least go platinum would be a big surprise!

Seeing that Black Ice sold 98k the first week, it's kind of difficult to see this album doing a lot more than that I'd have to say. The whole music business and especially the business of selling records sucks fucking rancid ass at the moment, so anything approaching 200k the first week would be absolutely sensational.

As long as it goes #1 in the first week...

Platinum by years end, I'd consider that huge in today's market!

Depends on how much media they do to promote it, really.

The idea of this selling more than 200K in the first week would rely on some major promotion, I believe.

VH III only went Gold, total....

And you mentioned Best Buy, gotta tip your hat to Chickenfoot's PR, they had Bette pasted ALL OVER the Best Buy advertisements....

    Hopefully, VH's PR saw that....

Quick correction, guys. I don't know where you got those figures from, but AC/DC's "Black Ice" did *not* sell 98k the first week. It sold 784,000 it's first week in just the U.S. In fact, it did 193,000 its first day alone. Given those figures, I think VH can easily make 200,000-250,000 in sales the first week.

Black Ice's numbers are skewed because it was a Wal Mart exclusive. They had to buy them outright to sell them so what they shipped and had on the shelf technically counted as sales. It was a guaranteed sale for the band. There were hundreds of them at my local store and still were months after.

I don't want to get really off topic but those Black Ice figures *WERE* the actual sales. Wal-Mart originally agreed to take shipment of 3 million copies, of which about 2 and a half million were actually sold. That's why there were so many still sitting on the shelves.

I can't see VH doing AC/Dc figures - AC/DC have been managed and marketted so well, whereas VH have such a big gap in their history that the fanbase naturally dwindles.

Media is the way to solve that.

I agree media is the way to solve this ... what they need is an iconic rock n roll ring master to round up the public .. someone who is a great interview and who would be in in every magazine on every tv programme and radio station ..... mmmmmm I wonder who

I'd be happy if it did as well as Black Ice, that album was great for AC/DC.

Van Halen needs this one to really say something,

"We're Fucking Back, with Dave!!! Bow down to the almighty VAN HALEN!!!"

DLR has a very good promotional mindset and I think it will be highly successful. I'm sure there will be plenty of PR to get this album selling pretty hefty numbers in its first few weeks (hefty by today's standards that is).

With the amount of press the band is getting for the album and the NYC gig, and it being within a month of release, I think 200-250k is a reasonable estimate, but I would imagine it would be more towards 250k. It will be interesting to see how many people buy the actual CD versus downloading it from iTunes.

BOV1 sold 2 million copies on the strength of just two new songs, so I can't imagine the new album selling any less than that.

And that's my pessimistic outlook. My optimistic side says it does twice that much. Of course the band can help those sales figures by touring outside of North America. We know they were willing to play in Australia before that festival went to Hell in a handbasket. So that's a good sign for the rest of the planet, I guess......
