ADKOT beats 1984 and Diver Down in my book...
Especially if you narrow it down to only the best tracks...
I'd have to agree with Elvis, or at least I would say that Diver Down and ADKOT are, song-for-song, equally as good.
1) Where Have All The Good Times Gone? - filler, at best
2) Hang 'Em High - Classic
3) Cathedral/Secrets - Classic
4) Intruder/Pretty Woman - decent-to-good
5) Dancing In The Streets - meh
6) Little Guitars (intro)/Little Guitars - Classic
7) Big Bad Bill Is Sweet William Now - personally, I enjoy the track
but more as a novelty than as anything representing the best of
CVH
8) The Full Bug - Classic
9) Happy Trails - worked great as a live sing-a-long at the end of
shows, but I can't remember the last time I even wanted to listen
to it on record, thus this too is filler.
Scramby eggs and bacon.
Diver has always been my least fav 6 pack album ... I could never get away with dancing in the street , tho I concede it was better live. And the kinks cover was always a bit take it or leave it for me.
Where as 1984 has all class tracks and even put up with Jump as its only in later years did I tire of it a little.
I think some of the better tracks on ADKOT match up with some stuff perhaps , but ADKOT doesnt have a hot for teacher , panama or a full bug hang em high moment...saying that when the mood takes me blood and fire hits the spot.
For me any way ...
No disgrace its still a fantastic cd . But the bar was set pretty high by the 6 albums before it.
Its tough comparing them , feels wrong saying one is better than the other.
deleted due to getting interupted
"as is" Is very cool
And as for disagreeing its the internet thats what its for ,it would be boring if people agreed :)
I forgot one...
Hang 'em High - Chinatown
This is hard to listen to now that Outta Space is one of my favorite songs...
Dave really sucked shit on that...
The new vocals are awesome and fit the song well...
I always hated the lyrics to this tune. Jumpin' in the streets? Kickin' off our shoes? Huh?
Hey Fourth, my cd copy of the WB demos, which has your avatar as the cover, is poor quality compared to the Fire Starter ones on You Tube. So glad that somebody put those out there. To me, those recordings are the true VH Zero. That Simmons demo irks me, even though the quality is high. You can just tell that the young band was in no position to say no to any of Gene's arrangement and production recommendations.
And as more time goes by, ADKOT will be seen for the gem it is...
Here's the ELVIS version:
She's The Woman
You and Your Blues
Chinatown
Blood and Fire
As Is
The Trouble With Never
Outta Space
Big River
Stay Frosty
And by no means are 1984 and Diver Down bad albums...
ADKOT is just honestly that good...
I love most of it...
I had some driving to do this morning so put ADKOT back in , it lived there for the first 6 months lol .
I gave it a blast and it still sounds ace , Still fucking love blood and fire and as is !!
The Simmons demos, I agree, have a good overall sound for a bootleg demo. But the production is anemic - he never got the best out of them, for various reasons (not surprising if they used other instruments, as you say).
Templeman was a superior producer not just cos he was more experienced at the job, but because he always aimed to good performances / good takes in the first few attempts. So, those records still sound like they fizzle with energy.
The Simmons demos are an interesting historical artefact, but thank the Lord he never produced their first album.
THINK LIKE THE WAVES
Simmons did a shocking job as a producer, the fact the sound is ok is probably down to a decent engineer.
Thank fuck he didn't get to do VH1. I don't think he would have killed them off but I really doubt it would have still sold 10 million. No Eruption for a start...
People like Ted Templeman work magic...
They know how to make something sound like more than it is...

Looking at the Simmons production credits and apart from Ki$$ you just have a few B list bands you could say maybe under performed - Keel, Doro, Black N Blue, House of Lords.
Keel...
Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!
They have keeloholics ??
Nope, I googled it...
I found one user on a forum unrelated to music who calls himself Keeloholic, but it was impossible to determine if that keeloholic was an actual "keeloholic."
Still, not much...
Ronnie Lee Keel's fucking image will not FUCKING post!!!

Let's jam !!
It's like Ron Keel would be an instructor at the School of Rock...
Fucking lame...
