So...word is Dave is focusing on his acting career. Starwood isn't that surprised, given that most of the rock legends - at one point or another - have.
Jagger. Bowie. Daltry. Even Bob Dylan. I'm sure there's many more.
Should we count Sting?
The point is - what do you think his chances are of success?
Some might say his bit on the Sopranos was a good start. In terms of visiblity, it absolutely was. But he was playing himself. Not the toughest job for an actor.
Bottom line? Every rock legend who played this game came back to the sandlot where they started - and belong. On a stage fronting a great rock and roll band.
Given what's currently going down w/VH - and the eventual decay of excitement - it might be safe to say that doing a cameo/movie here/there might not be a bad idea. You know he'll nail it - and that will keep him in the public eye. And you know about that time, the Van Hagar swindle will fail. After the buzz wears off, the records don't sell...the fingerpointing will begin. We all know Sammy doesn't need VH. He'll split in a heartbeat. The guys almost 60, and he'll be happy fading off into the sunset with his cheap tequila and Waboritas. He's got enough money to assure the next two generations live like kings. Sorry. Got a little sidetracked.
Dave's been playing the club/arena retro classic tour for many years now. When did I see him w/Bad Co? 99? And every summer since?
Might be time for a well deserved rest. Would not be suprised at all if he cans the Euro tour if the album isn't selling well.
Starwood thinks Dave should go for it and his chances are good.
By the time TV/Film gets sick of Dave - Sammy will be sick of VH.
And then we all meet up once again - in the sandlot - and have ourselves a party.

What I'd really like to see is a talk show/variety show. Have all the new starlets and young musicians on for comedy, leering and music. Maybe a little Man Show meets SNL by way of the Daily Show.

Comedy Central or VH1 should get this cranked up.

With that line there starts Dave's acting career... I guess one problem Dave would have as an actor would be how the hell does he break out of being Dave. He's just such a well known personality I think he'd have a hard time getting cast in a role outside of his personna...

Maybe he will. Time will tell. Why would you say Dave can't act? His videos are small movies. His personality is off the wall with charisma to boot. I think Dave would do just fine in a serious role (ala Sopranos) or like a comedy, 1/2 "man show" type. He's got an eye for what is cool and flashy too, so I wouldn't count out directing or writing either. You say there is too much Sam bashing here, but yet everytime you post, you post negative Dave material. Why is that?

I didnt say he couldnt act. I said the public doesnt care anymore. Id like to see him succeed in this. Cuz I think his music career is long over.

He hasn't done anything "explosive" to make the public care. Type his name in google, and see how revelant he still is. With the proper agent, and right roles, like Sopranos, Dave could very well be a natural at acting.

Sorry but YOUR opinion in "album sales" and the "cover band trying too hard" echoes simplistic theory. Dave doesn't sing for you. He sings for the people that do want him to perform. Regardless of the amount. That's what you don't understand. Dave doesn't care as much for album sales and #1 hits as do the Van Halen's, he simply wants to play and sing HIS music. Van Hagar doesn't do the classics any justice, so Dave does it for them. And does them well.

Dave the actor is an interesting dilema. IMO it would be better for him to break out of his personna and retire a multi-faceted character... I can see him as a tv talk show host -but my preference would be to see him in a movie in some type of serious role. He is probably best suited to be a porn director. But seriously, there are a few hinderances to him having an acting career-like his need to be in control of everything every single moment.

That would fit him perfectly. It would not only be very entertaining, but get Dave back into the public eye. It could also give him a chance to possibly collaborate with other artists and help his album sales.
