In your hands is the most kick-ass VAN HALEN album perhaps ever...your "supposed" favorite band is on fucking tour coming to a city near you to kick your ass and you have tickets...they sound better than ever...they have given us tons of footage and insight by way of video that we wouldn't normally see...the band seems to be getting along better than ever, which, leads to the hopes of more in the future and all I see is complaint after complaint!

Since December 26, it has been the BEST ride on the Van Halen train that you could have ever hoped for! Shit, it's way better than anyone could have imagined and, I don't know about you but, I've been "imagining" for 28 fuckin years!!

Sure, I'd like other songs in the set list...but they're not and aren't going to be...most of the songs "we" would want to hear wouldn't even be recognizable by a "casual" fan anyway...

Everyone says the Six-Pack is brilliant the best six albums ever........which is ironic because, by the band's own admission, it's filled with flaws and fuck ups. [See Pretty Woman as a classic example]

Everyone who pines for the glory years [78-85] and complaining that VH hasn't lived up to the past concerts was either too fucked up to remember those shows or time has erased the bad memories and replaced them with a mythical version of those live shows......there were more fuck ups then then there is now, period! I think what Carmine is driving at is that we have received an effort from VH that is light years above and beyond what any of us could have expected.

When the '07/'08 tour ended, this place was rife with doom and gloom speculation about what was next...if anything at all. I think many of us (myself included) were bracing for a letdown. We were nervous that any new music would be lackluster and subpar, and that the CVH legacy could potentially be "ruined."

People were pissed about the silence, and the length of time it was taking to get any news. We even took DLR to task a bit for what was eventually perceived as a misleading "Get Ready" message on his site that seemed to linger forever. There was the Soundwave Revolution collapse that lapsed us all back into apathy.

Then suddenly the floodgates opened a few months ago, and we got a new record that is fucking amazing!! Not only does it pay tribute to the CVH legacy, but ADKOT can proudly stand in line with the six pack as a full-fledged member of the family, not some bastard stepson of a record that was released as a "cash grab."

Acoustic versions of old favorites, DLR exclusive videos (part of an overarching exclusive access given to the one and only ROTH ARMY), an intimate club gig in NYC, a mind-blowing record release party in L.A., Dave interviewing the VH brothers, and dissecting the lyrics to the songs.

And now the tour has started, and we're seeing a revitalized and rejuvenated Van Halen with each member at the very top of their game. Old classics being dusted off, including "Outta Love Again" being played live for the first time since 19-fucking-80. And hearing "Girl Gone Bad" in Detroit was fucking unreal!!

I guess what Carmine is saying is that with all of the amazing things going on around us, those who complain give the appearance that they are simply hell-bent to find something to bitch about instead of being happy for all that we've seen so far.

So, ultimately....it comes down to:

That tour wasn't a band stretching out and going for it......sometimes hitting it and sometimes missing it but playing their fucking asses off! It was an effort just to complete the songs, be it half ass or good.....just finishing a song seemed to be the goal!

There were times that Dave had to adjust the headset and you could tell he was singing but couldn't hear him for a second but overall I didn't feel like it affected the show I saw.

He was out of breath a few times and hit some clunkers but I have yet to see live footage from back in the day that he hasn't had similar problems.

BTW, my comments weren't really directed at you or the whole headset controversy but the others who are bitching about minuscule technical glitches, set lists or a missed note here or there. It's like complaining that Ed was using a cord and not wireless.....yes, an argument can be made for it affecting his performance but it's not going to change the reality of the situation.

I personally believe Dave would still strain for notes, be out of breath, and hit clunker notes if he was wearing the headset or not......here again, listening to live Classic Van Halen there's fuck ups galore!

Well, that in and of itself is the rub. What is happening isn't so much about the validity of an opinion, but more toward how it comes about in the first place. By all means, if you plunked down hard-earned cash in order to see the band in question, witnessed what took place firsthand and then wrote about what you saw, you are more entitled to your opinion than some bozo that clicked on a haphazardly filmed internet Youtube video in between cold calls and coffee while at work.

Yet ultimately, it comes down to the interpretation of what has been witnessed. For instance, how many here listened to a 30 second snatch of a song clip, then instantly proclaimed the tune as exceptional or worthless, only to reverse that opinion a short while later upon hearing the entire song? Hell, sometimes these very same folks contradicted themselves within a handful of posts in the very same thread, yet failed to mention their earlier stated "opinions" or even own up to them.

It's the internet age folks, and what comes with it is a peculiar form of self-entitlement, one that allows folks to immediately come up with whatever idea that forms in their miniscule craniums, and instantaneously share it with the world. (Of course, this is nothing new or revolutionary, as it appears that the Red Cheese Shredder has developed an entire career by talking out of his sphincter with little, if any, malice of forethought.) Well, fucking terrific. You now can immediately speak out or get information in return within a microsecond. The downside to that artifice is that you also sacrifice clarity (let alone quality) of thought for immediacy. In the past, simple expediency has been proven to not always be the best choice for communication, ya know?

I agree with that but........it depends on what you're bitching about, IMO.

As others have said.....the YouTube era has given us HD quality of all the shows, uploaded hours/minutes after the concert. Mistakes are magnified and dissected to the point of absurdity.

Complaining that the band is playing YRGM, RWTD, and Jump is ridiculous......I can only think of a hand full of bands that don't play their hits and at Van Halen's level the number drops dramatically.

Sure, I'd love to see more deep cuts but I'm in the 10% minority of fans that go see VH live......a band has to play certain songs that were not only career defining but also popular!

I agree wholeheartedly that if this place ever gets to the point where we can't tell each other to fuck off and that you're full of shit......this place has lost it's heart and soul.

If I honestly didn't believe, in my heart, that they killed it live the other night I would say so.....I have in the past and will continue to do so......the only difference is I like Rock N Roll gritty and raw, mistakes and all. Seeing Ed make a whoops face, laughing his ass off or seeing Al have an ear to ear grin because he fucked up makes a show for me. It gives it a human element and not so sterile that there's zero emotion in it or that edge where you feel like anything could happen at any moment.

I guess I look at the 90% of the things they did right and not obsess about the 10% that went wrong!
