Phil is definitely, 100 percent out. There is a slim chance both will be back, and who knows Shaq and management could change their minds. Just heard that Payton excersized his option and will return next season(though I think Laker fans won't exactly be cheering that move).

I think it was a mutual decision by Buss and Jackson. The Lakers GM is already targeting coaches to interview.........former Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich being the first name thrown out there......

But why does Phil seriously want to leave a championship team. The lakers can win next year. With all their problems they came in second.

I don't think he really gave a concrete answer to that question. He just feels that he doesnt want to continue coaching there at this point.........Part of that is the possible departure of Kobe, and the fact that Shaq wants out(Shaq hates Gm Mitch Kupchak) It'll be interesting to see what this team looks like next year.
