And also found this opossum that climbed a fence & chickened out once at the top LOL. I walked right up to him & talked to him a while. Asked what he was doing up there & what his plans for getting down were. He wasn't sure haha. I woulda helped him down....but those little dudes got some serious teeth and I didn't have a thick towel or something to use to grab him & pull him down.

Get him a nice juicy bone from the butcher's, you'll get him mate.

Edit; and in relation to that other thread, YouTube 'black fella white fella' by the warumpi band. One of those dudes I know, and he's a top fella.

What a nice photo of the stray dog, I wish animal control never catch him

The opossum shouldn´t be living at the city, it´s very dangerous for him, but also is a difficult animal to catch, you really was very close to him.

The opossum is probably safer hanging on the fence like that than he would be trying to cross the road. Those damn critters seem to have horrible luck when it comes to that. The only way they keep themselves from extinction is by breeding early and often. (they start fucking when they're 13 weeks old!)

Animal control tried one morning and I yelled & got into argument with the lady dog catcher with the net. I said not to catch him cause all they do is kill him. And she said it's better than living out here. I replied at least he has a chance out here.....a small chance, but a small chance is better than no chance.

As for the possum, I took a short video clip. Ill try to upload it to youtube for you guys. He didn't seem too afraid of me once i began talking. Animals can sense the tone in your voice & body language to tell if you are threatening or not. I am not.

The biggest problem with the stray dog is too many people feeding him. McDs employees & others every day. He has it made and is never very hungry. Until he starts going without food a while, he will be hard to coax close enough to be caught.

George Jones must have fell off the wagon and hitting the booze pretty hard again if he's hanging from fences.

You are right about the tone of voice and body language, hahaha... I have never seen an opossum before, until this year during holidays. I woke up very early, it was still dark, I made myself a coffee and sat at the balcony waiting for the sun to rise, a very nice an relaxing moment.......suddenly, just in front of me and above my head, I saw a big animal with a long tail walking on the wall.....After many and some complicated rescues where sometimes I risked my own safety.....I yelled like a baby "A GIANT RAT, A GIANT RAT"!!!! I jumped indoor throwing the chair, and turned my head just to watch the terrified animal jumping from the first floor balcony,.... it was more frightened than myself, he landed safely on the sand. I scared the shit out of him with all my yelling and screams !!!
I was a little embarrased with my reaction but later I asked the neighbours about the animal, they said it was an opossum, and in summertime when unaware people leave the door and window open because of the heat, their screams can be heard from a couple of blocks away !!

They do look like a giant rat. A great thing that many people don't know is Opossums are marsupials like a kangaroo. They raise their young in a belly pouch. Pretty amazing. they are always dead on the roads here because they are very slow. I saw some youtube videos where people had them as pets. I'd love to do that if I had the space & proper area to keep one in.

    cute

Life amazes me. I get amazed watching a spider in it's web or an opossum climb a fence. Amazing things are all around us if we pay attention.

And when an animal allows us to tame or domesticate them.....that is a fucking incredible gift!

That opossum is very cute, here we have a different kind of opossum, a male could reach 70cm. plus the tail, and and are transmisors of some diseases, they live in the wild.

Dem kittehs dreaming of the birdies outside.

Is the lower one black? Or is that just the shadows? And do they always choose the same flats to stay on? Like the b&w one knows it gets the top shelf?

Yes to both questions. Spook's too big for the top shelf now. That's where Squeak (b & w) goes to get away from Spook.

That tree outside is fucking HUGE! Thats awesome and I bet you don't even notice it really since you see it every day. So many places in California are developments made in the last 5-15 years and all the trees (if any) are tiny stick trees from Home Depot. I really miss huge trees in the neighborhood.

Here's the Demon Cat. She destroys everything, especially loves chewing up flip flops and puking up the neoprene in my closet. Go figure. I caught her half way up the Christmas tree today - she had her head poking out right where a big ornament was.

    AWWWW....but look at that face

I honestly think God made animals cute so we would have a hard time beating them to death for shredding our new sofa & peeing in our shoes.

And here's the good cat. I brought this one home as a present for my daughter after she started walking. She picked him up, put him under her arm and went to her room. And they have been best friends since then. This cat follows her every where she goes in the house. Stands outside her damn door if it's closed and raises holy hell. He's never broken or messed up anything.

Thanks Donnie. Great story. I love hearing when kids bond with pets like this. So much today kids don't give 2 shits and are fully engulfed in gaming, texting, facebook, etc. It's sad. Childhood is the golden time to have that special buddy with you. Pure magic. And good for you for just letting nature take it's course and letting them have their friendship their way.

*haha! digging the old lava lamp. I had an orange one.

My kid never cared much for toys. We just spent our time together playing games and doing stuff outside. I was lucky in a way, since it was just me and her since she was 2. I got to enjoy seeing her grow up and never had to share that with anybody. Just us - and to hell with the rest of the world. But that damn cat was always next to her - and I'm glad they were friends

I appreciate EVERY tree here. There are no natural trees here, all planted. I live in an old neighbourhood, so the trees are all old. Newer neighbourhoods are like yours...twigs from Home Depot. I really miss the old growth forests I grew up with.

First time I went up north of Prince Albert I was amazed. Rock, lakes and trees...beautiful.

So check this....they had totally bulldozed 100's of acres flat to build our development. So when we moved in it was all home depot plants & trees. At night it was dead silent. Because all insects & birds were bulldozed out. So after we planted our grass & shrubs in the backyard I started going to the pet store & buying 200-400 live crickets for $10-$20. I'd come home & start spreading them around all over the backyard, front yard, the walk to the mail box. By the 2nd year it sounded like the fucking bayou outside. Awesome!

You need to visit the mountains...or the west coast rain forest. Makes PA trees look like twigs .

ok, this may not translate well - but I have secretly considered my 'boy' the DLR of dogs at times ..

He is white, gorgeous for his breed(stops traffic some times), happy go lucky toward all dogs and people and loves to have a (little) beer ..

sounds kinda like Dave - mostly universally considered a good looking guy & wanting to have a good time w/everyone

Every two years we head out west for a two week camping trip...usually Jasper through Banff then head for Revelstoke...love the mountains.

Last few years the weather seems to bite though...cold/rainy.

I so am not a flatlander!

This stray cat is one of my beloved petfriends. He has some congenital cerebral disability, he also was beaten up when he was a little baby and needed a complex surgery (traumatic diaphagmatic tear repair).
As you can see, he is cross-eyed, also has hind bow legged and he is constantly dribbling, I really love him
