Sadaist, you will be happy to know that the boxer I asked you about the other day has been rescued and is doing well. Speaking of rescues, lookie what we pulled from under an old shed in my sister's neighbor's yard a few days ago

Mommy went to the vet the very next day for a spay and shots. Here's a close-up of the little ones. Anybody want one?

Nice! I hate going to rescue shelters or websites because I want to adopt them all. And right now I can't even take 1. But I have been stopping a couple times a week at local pet stores that sell puppies. Just to get 15 minutes or so of some puppy time to carry me through. Yesterday was 2 English Bulldog pups.

Boxer rescue LA is where I will get my next pet. I will probably take a senior so it can live out it's final couple years being spoiled with McDonalds burgers and lots of fluffy pillows to sleep on. Plus they need to be rescued more because most people want young dogs. And many of these older dogs have had a rough life. Would like them to experience some real love before their time is up.

It seems like a really great facility. They try to put videos of each dog up. But they have some that have been there close to a year. That makes me sad.

Hey Sparkie...good job saving the kittehs. My mom gave me this little book of avice sayings back in the early 90's or so. Just simple 1 or 2 sentence things. Fun little book. I remember one of them said....

If you ever have a kitten, get 2. Two are no more trouble than one, but ten times the fun.

And Kristy, if you are still browsing this thread, I saw a puppy at the pet store yesterday that looked just like yours. Was stretched out so far out on it's back that's it's big pink belly was begging to be rubbed. So I obliged. So cute. Weird thing though, the pet stores now have hand sanitizer and make you sanitize between handling each puppy....every time. I swear I had to use that crap 8 times yesterday.

Hi Sparkie, I live very far away, so I cannot help you, but I am very happy because the old boxer have found a home, and the cats are very cute and they looks healthy.
I have 13 cats at home (flat), and I have done a lot of rescues. Very good for you

And anyone notice that you never see or hear about Dobermans any more? Man, in the 1980's they were all the rage. Then in the 90's it switched to Rottweilers. But I swear I don't think I have seen a Doberman in 20 years.

Dude, you can tell for sure it is kitty season around here. Just rescued a bunch of ferals last week right before we got the others. One is expecting (sigh!) and the others are recovering from being fixed. Thankfully, I have found a place for them. I need to find homes for two of the kittens in the pic I posted and I hope I don't see any more strays or ferals ever again!!! As I am certain you are very well aware, it is not easy trying to save every one of 'em. 13 cats in a flat? Wow Man! You're amazing!

All my life I rescued animals from imminent death. When they recover to good condition again, I look for a new home for them, and they stay with me if I cannot find a new one. I refurbished a room with "glass bricks" (to bring light to the room), and "porcellanato" for the floor and walls for easy cleaning, you can see it at the photo I posted. Now I have 13 cats, they are a very happy family.

Ok I've tried 3 times now and The board will not let me upload photos anymore, nor will it allow me to delete any photos I've uploaded in the past. To say nothing of the directions on that upload manager all printed in white over the lightest blue imaginable. Anybody else having a problem or is it just my blind self?

Sorry Shoes, I don't upload like that to the site. I use Photobucket exclusively. Wish you luck though. Perhaps a mod will peruse our furry thread and toss you some help.

Remember that you created this thread.... So talking about giving life..... Having so much cats at home and lot of work, is good to have a break and rest. 5 years ago I went for holidays at a nice seaside town 400km. from Buenos Aires, and late at night coming back to the cottage was a big and beautiful hairy cat waiting at the door, I gave her some milk and later she rushed into the bed and....voilá!!!
Beneath all that hair was a big belly with 5 kittens. That was really hard work, the bed was a mess , to save them I had to buy all the employees´s silence with big tips, they found a safe place in the garden, I bought a box, blankets, food for them and leave money for their needs, each year I come back to the same place (it´s a Timeshare), all kittens grew and live in the surroundings.
I still think why the cat waited at my door???? There were more cottages....a lot more to choose.

    Aw man.

Nothing I can say here. I have gone through it with my boxers and it hurts as much now as it did then. Thank you for sharing the photos. If you are up to it later, I'd love to see some more with maybe a couple of your best stories. And they are NOT just pets. They are our friends and family members. When you are close with an animal to the point where you both understand each other just by looks you know it's way more than just some dumb animal. Way more. That unconditional love no matter if you are ugly or pretty, clean or dirty, fat or thin, sad or happy, good or evil.....they love you no matter what. So we return that to them moreso than we can do with people. I think that might be why it hurts so damn much.

It's rough, but the Rainbow Bridge story is really good. Maybe that might help your wife & son a little to think about where Mauri is waiting to see them again.

Thanks guys. This is my first day back to work and so far the hardest thing was not having the same morning routine that I have had for the last 4 years.
Same thing last night. It's amazing how much pets play a part of your daily life. I may post some more pics later although re-posting the last one brought a tear to my eye.

My condolences. My heart is with you, your wife and your son. Try to think in the good days and time you spent with your Mauri I am sure she had a very good life with you.

I am glad Sadaist opened this Pet thread, so everyone can show how much they love pets and animals, and tell some nice but sometimes sad stories.

Nothing worse than the pain of losing a pet - for me anyway. It's as bad as losing an immediate family member cause that's what they are. Hope that things get better for all of you soon.

Yeah. Even now I get those. Especially when I watch the couple videos I took of them. It sucks.

But isn't amazing how much you can love a dog? Pretty damn cool we have the gift & ability to have them domesticated with us.

Thank you all for your posts. Some how this seems to help in the grieving process. I always thought it was amazing that here is an animal who evolved from a wolf and is sleeping with us in our bed, misses us when we leave the house not knowing if
we are ever coming back, is so happy to see us when we come home like we've been gone for a year even though its been 30 minutes, and lets us become their pack leader unconditionally. Truly an incredible relationship.

    Thought about you last night.

Untill recently I had never had to put a dog down. So when I did I obviously had no idea what to expect. Anyway they gave me this pamplet of stuff I could put her ashes in. Has her name on it and sits above the TV. I miss that dog. I don't think that ever goes away. One day this summer I am going to take the ashes to the lake where she and I use to fish all the time and spread them out in the water.

    You are right, that´s incredible.
I rescued a seriously injured dog some years ago and now he is living happily in a dog shelter with lot of dog friends. Even thou I seldom can visit him, each time he sees me, he recognizes me, he jumps and barks, and offers me his paw!!! He doesn´t forget, he is so greatful!!! LOVELY.

That would be a very meaningful closure.

I remember once growing up I had a mutt dog. She was black & brown. Kinda rottweiler colors & look. We also had a couple cats that were outside. One had kittens & bailed them. We came home from school one day & right next to the front door my girl dog was nursing all the kittens. We all freaked. So very cool that motherly instincts kicked in.

Later we had a part wolf dog & the cat had kittens again. But he ate most of them. Difference between boys & girls I guess.

Why I don't have any bugs in my house:

I walked in the kitchen to get some lunch just now and noticed my cat Rhett in the floor with his paws clasped over a Prize, with another cat looking on. He looked up at me and then back down and raised his paw to show me his Prize, then quickly covering it back up. What was under his paws? A single ant.

You can pretty much set your watch by him, about 1:30 AM he hunts down and brings me some kind of prey he has "killed", like a green mouse with pink ears, a black and white mouse with a feather for a tail or a blue jay that looks suspiciously like a Beanie Baby, all with GREEEEAAAT fanfare.
