A lot of you will think I'm some kind of weirdo, but another hobby of mine is raising butterflies. I know, strange thing for a foul-mouthed thrash metal-loving chick, but it is really neat to watch something you can barely see with your naked eye turn into something so beautiful. I've raised and released over a thousand of them from 12 different species. We also have a certified Monarch Waystation in our back yard.

I just arrived home, and I have a call from Isabel (the old lady who take care of the dogs and cats at the "shelter"). Two cats have died, (maybe a virus), just one survive. Sad news.
I saved them 10 years ago, and I have their sister "Pupee" at home with me,

I'm very sorry Kat. Nothing I can say to make you feel any better. I lost my Mochie a couple years back and it still sucks. I even fel guilty when I pet other kitties now I'm glad you have Pupee. Give her as much love as you can with the time you have with her.

It is the humans curse to be able to receive love from animals only to outlive them. Curse indeed.

Thank you for your words, Sada. I´ve lost so many pets and animals..... but it hurts a lot, as the first time. You are right, it´s like a curse.

I´m glad because I was able to save them and they lived more than ten years, and I still have Pupee with me.
All the sadness is compensate with their love and gratitude. But it still hurts.

    Left to right

I didn´t post a photo of Pupee and her brothers because I was going to cry, they were so small when I found them, just 15 days.
This is a very beautiful photo of Daffney, Evander and Mochie.

This morning I read in Las Vegas Thread and excellent review about Dave at Las Vegas show, and after the sad news of yesterday, I feel stronger today to post the photo of Pupee (black and white, biting the bowl) and one of her deceased brothers, trying to learn how to drink milk more than 10 years ago. Their first meal without their mother.

Yes, the black one! they were so hungry, more than 24 hours without any milk!!
They were four kittens, Pupee had three male brothers, I managed to find a home for only one of them, the other two had to live at the shelter with Isabel.
Pupee is a healthy and happy cat.

I have two cats. They are the same color. Most people that just see them briefly have difficult telling them apart.

Here is Daisy, she is on my avatar with me, you can't really see her face cause I had to cut my avatar to make the size limitation.

And here is Castor, he is older and bigger. He had a problem with one knee and since then he has gained some weight.

hahaha...same leg than my cat Trys !!!

He lived in the streets and was a wild cat, but six years ago he had an accident and pulled out his right front paw and he was going to die (gangrene).
It took me six days to catch him, it was one of the most difficult rescues I ever made.
Trys is now a happy cat and runs and jumps normally and lives in the apartment.

There are two 3 legged dogs in this household. They have no trouble getting around except for stairs. One of them goes up and down on a stair chair. It's a hoot to watch.

Belive it or not, he doesn't have an attitude. He is very shy towards other people and easily frightend. He is also very clingy towards me. The other cat, Daisy, she is much more independent.

Can't find an embed code - but take a look at this vid of a guy who rescued a baby hummingbird after it was attacked.
cancel this - I got a virus thread during a download attempt.

    Meet Topper, Danny, and Murphy.
These three golden retriever pups are in training to be service dogs. The company I now work for, Chattanooga Goodwill Industries has a program where we train these dogs to be assistance dogs for people with disabilites and we give them to people who need them for FREE! As of a year or so ago, I believe we were the only organization in America to give these dogs away free of charge. They learn how to turn on and off lights, open and close doors, retrieve things from the fridge, the list goes on and on. They make a huge difference in the lives of those who are wheelchair bound. One of our recent graduates went to a 13 year old girl who lives life in a wheelchair. It brings tears to my eyes to know that what I do at work every day contributes to this person having such a wonderful companion to help her through life. This program really means a lot to me and I hope you guys don't mind me sharing this with you. If you'd like to learn more about the program, you can go to Goodwillchatt.org or look up the Chattanooga Goodwill Assistance Dog Academy on Facebook.
    Thanks for letting me share/brag.

Wow that is a great career you have and those animals do wonders. I am going to check out the site thanks for posting. Are these dogs trained in seizure detection or just other disabilities?

It brings tears to my eyes to know that what I do at work every day contributes to this person having such a wonderful companion to help her through life. This program really means a lot to me and I hope you guys don't mind me sharing this with you. If you'd like to learn more about the program, you can go to Goodwillchatt.org or look up the Chattanooga Goodwill Assistance Dog Academy on Facebook.
    Thanks for letting me share/brag.
Jennifer, that´s wonderful!!! You are doing a great job for disabled people. Very nice puppies.

I don't believe the last three were. Not sure if any of these three will "specialists" or not. I can ask Ramona (she trains them). I do know they train dogs for this and Golden Retrievers are really in-tune with humans anyway, so it would be a good match. Thanks very much showing some interest!
    You guys are the best!

Here is a video from a fundraiser last fall. These are the first 3 graduates of our program and Jerry, our spokesdog. Their names are Hamilton, Brandy, and Eddie. The music is a little sappy.....makes me get choked up every time I watch this thing.
Hope this video works....I've never posted a vid here before.

So I let him live in my garage. I'd go every single day to the pet store & buy a live mouse. Then I'd set it free in the garage and the owl would swoop down & munch on him. yummy! He also ate live grub worms like candy. When I could corner him, he would let me hold him without clawing or biting. All the neighborhood kids got to pet him too.

He would stay up on the garage door railings and once he was flying pretty well I took him to set him free. I found a great place out a ways where they grow sod. Big open fields with probably a lot of mice to eat. Not sure if his wing ever healed 100%, but I like to think that the 3 months he recovered in my garage at least gave him a fighting chance out there. Better chance than had I done nothing.

was sad to let him go. Such a cute lil thing and can't believe how docile he was to hold. I mean really, how many people can say they actually held or touched an owl? That's why I wanted all the kids around to get the chance to meet him. He was a burrowing owl. They live in the ground like gophers.

He would fly into the little office room in the garage & land on the tv or couch. The mice he would eat on top of the pool table.

here we go, starting at #64. and i thanked an elvis post (#280) which didn't have hate, only pessimism.

Here is my Daffney a few years back with a stuffed purple bunny. (Thats Evander sneaking in towards the end. No chance she was gonna share her new toy)

Doing a walk on a riverside, I made friends with this beautiful Black Labrador called Nero, he was a great company, and how well he managed to climb and walk over the rocks.

This is Pancho, another "sponsored puppy", he was abandoned and needed medicines but now he is well and made good friends with Osita.
I just realized that they are not neutered yet, I should hurry......
