    Peavey tnt 150 bass amp

Evening knowledgeable Army members. I have one of these amps that I was going to put up for sale on Craigslist or Ebay. It seems to work fine.(I'm not a musician) I was wondering if anyone here would have an idea on how much I should ask for it? (I'm not trying to sell it through this website!! lol) Just looking for an idea of fair market value from you knowledgeable musicians. Online info shows it was made around 1989 and it weighs about 80lbs!!...Thanks for any help...Bob

Amps like that typically sell for $250-300. The condition of the amp affects the price. It may work but if it's pretty trashed look wise it hurts the price. Say Flea once owned it and ask $1000. LOL!

Thanks for the info Nitro...It looks great and my son-in-law played through it(he is a musician) and he said it sounded great! It's just too heavy to lug back and forth to his house! I paid $80 for it from a neighbor of mine but I guess I can ask a little more for it?...again, thanks...Bob

I've always had good luck with Peavey gear. Their bass stuff has always sounded good. Bass stuff is heavy. Even moving my 2x10 around is a bitch. I've gotten lazy. I'm running a direct box into the PA and using in ear monitors now. The 8x10 stays home.

    Not to me they don't...

But that's a great bass amp for some kid just starting out...

Sell it to some kid for $125-150 and do a good deed...

Well...I put it on craigslist for $200 before I read Elvis's heartwarming reply...we'll see what happens?
I just didn't want to rip anyone off and I'd be happy to get my $80 back and I'll buy a smaller one...I can't play anyway,
I just goof around with my son-in-law!! and don't want to break my back in the process!!...lol

It's the free market. Bid it high. Be honest about it's condition tell them what you want for it and let them decide the price. Then you can accept or reject their offer. It's not ripping a person off if you are honest about what the product is and it's condition. If they paid too much it's because they didn't do their homework.

The value of an item all depends on where you are selling it.

Go on eBay and see what they are selling for. Or Google "Peavey 150 bass amp for sale" (without the quote marks).

$100.00 is about right. Great fucking amps though. They sound reasonably crappy but last forever and are loud enough to actually use.

Not everything Peavey makes sounds good but it will never break. LOL! I've never heard of a Bandit ever breaking.

With a guitar I'm perfectly happy with 30 Watts if it sounds good. That's plenty of power. With a bass I'm like Captain Kirk yelling at Scotty "I need more fucking power!" If the amp goes "She's giving you all she has!" I'm not a happy camper. 300 watts is minimal for me and I'm notorious for having power amps shutting down on me. I'm like Entwistle. You are going to know I'm there and yes singers hate me.

I have a 5150II and it's been a good workhorse amp. I think Ed went with Peavey because Hartley owns the whole company and they were big enough to meet the demand on the guitars. The funny thing was it was Peavey that broke off the relations with Ed and not the other way around. They had tooled up and invested in bringing out a new combo amp and Ed was just too fucked up to work with. It's back when Ed was fucked up so Peavey figured the situation had degraded to the point of where it was no longer working.

Peavey in the early 80's was the country western brand. It was like Wrangler jeans. American made. Tough as nails but not exactly cool. The music stores where I lived all carried lots of Peavey stuff. I think why is Peavey treated the dealers decent. Fender and Gibson were notorious for forcing dealers to buy inventory in order to get the inventory that was selling. So you would have to buy extra shit that probably would be sitting in your store a long time. Peavey didn't pull that shit.

Not only was their PA equipment good, it was cutting edge for the time. In the 70's Peavey was way ahead of the game. Today they have their Mediamatrix line they sell all over the world. Peavey is a world leader when it comes to public address systems.

    http://mediamatrix.peavey.com/

Peavey was the sound of Molly Hatchet and Lynard Skynard. I remember seeing Molly Hatchet in 82 if I remember right. All Peavey and they sounded great. Loud as hell too.

god, i thanked an elvis post!

for 5 years i sold the little 'rage' amps in large numbers... i'm tellin you guys we had way less than 1% that blew up.

that cool head they had before the 5150, the one with the mini switches that kim thayil played? awesome amp.

    i'll add a disclaimer, i own a jsx 2x12 combo. it's most bodacious.

Remind me to have you guys write my next Craigslist ad when I want to sell something...lol...kidding

Not a single inquiry yet though...but that's ok, it's not like it has to go, I'd just like it to go to someone that would get some enjoyable use out of it...I'll lower the asking price.
I just didn't want to put it on Ebay cause christ...what would it add to the cost to ship an 80lb crate!!??
    lol...

Again, thanks for the info all!!

My grandson saw his first and I'll quote him..."Rock Concert" last Sunday in Boston
I asked him who we're going to see and he says..."The Mighty Van Halen Grampa"...love him

    Have a great day all!!

that cool head they had before the 5150, the one with the mini switches that kim thayil played? awesome amp.

    i'll add a disclaimer, i own a jsx 2x12 combo. it's most bodacious.
Was that amp with the swtiches the Ultra model? A couple of those amps had a really good crunch sound.

The Classic 30 is a great sounding amp. Not a big fan of the 5150s.

I have a backstage 30 that I gave my daughter. Not the best but great for an 8 year old.

Had a Renown years ago. It had a great clean sound, but that was about it. That amp hated pedals, but it was way loud and that's what I needed at the time.

The T60 guitars and T40 basses are incredibly good sounding guitars and basses. Very versatile too.

A Peavey backline always makes me think of a whiskey soaked southern rock band. Actually one of the best concerts I ever saw was Molly Hatchet. They had some good songs and took care of business.

I had the Classic 20. I wish I still had it. It was a well built great sounding little amp.

That's it. I remember one came up for auction on Ebay and a real bidding war erupted over it. I was surprised but people seemed to love that amp.

the VTM was a early 80's production amp, it's circuity is nearly a identical copy of a JCM 800, albiet with a 6L6 based power amp section. It's front also houses a special group of dip switches which changes different resistor values on the preamp and power amp circuits, changing both amp sections characteristics, sort of like modifying a JCM 800. Hence this is how the amp got it's name: "Vacuum Tube Modified".
I wonder what one would sound like with EL34s in it.

Cool. The father of the VTM is James Brown.
