Steve Vai - Tender Surrender. One of the most beautiful guitar instrumental I've ever heard in my life so far.

I still listen to the Jeff Beck material from the Blow by Blow era... Best damn rock/blues/jazz fusion ever produced.

I thought Beck had once stated he gave up on playing with picks sometime in the early 80's; seems he's doing fine without one here.

Funny that you mention Stevie Ray Vaughan, I feel a lot of his vibe in Vai's Tender Surrender.

For me Little Wing by SRV is a milestone at a different point on the timeline concerning guitar instrumentals. Tender Surrender is the evolution of it.

He did. Dropped his pick at the Ronnie Lane ARMS Benefit show, which was held in some enormodome and televised, said "No way am I bending over to pick it up in front of a million people" and never looked back (I still kinda wonder how it was he had no spares at the ready, but whatevs). He plays like he's from another planet...one of the all-time greats.

The Jeff beck look that inspired the Nigel Tuffnel look. One of your better rock and roll hair cuts. Oh yeah, great playing too! Saw him with SRV in '90. SRV opened that night. The entire Worcester Center was bummed that it wasn't the other way around. Guitar Shop was cool but it was Stevie mania that year. I still damn that summer for taking him away.

Outstanding share Kristy. Interesting journey for Jeff Beck going from a rockabilly background to Blow by Blow and Wired. You know how far the instrument has come when you hear him talk about slowing records down to learn triplets and octaves.

I saw SRV at the Municipal Auditorium in '89, and it was a semi-religious experience. Holy crap, he was good. Lonnie Mack opened for him, and he was a total badass too! Both of them had vibratos that shook the entire neck when they bent a note, and their playing dripped with attitude. I was a rock with a dabbling influence in blues walking in, but walked out a believer. I was SO bummed the day I heard SRV had died..I had just gotten to L.A. like a month earlier, and was walking back in my apartment from a job interview, and my roomie said "Dude, SRV got killed in a helicopter crash last night!"

Sure I know Little Wing is a Hendrix tune. You are right, my milestone award thing should go far back to the original, no doubt. I just like SRV's version so much.

Here's the Hendrix 1967 studio version:

Here's a wonderful Jeff Beck live version of Cause We've Ended As Lovers with a great bass solo played by Tal Wilkenfeld.

Here's the Hendrix 1967 studio version:
To me the best Hendrix version was on the long out of print In The West album that was part of a flood of posthumous releases in the seventies. Due to some sort of dispute, the track was inexplicably replaced with another version on the CD rerelease last year.

Just for shits and giggles, here's a rendition of the tune by Beck himself. And you are correct, SRV's version is probably the finest ever made.

And Hiram Bullock's soloing on Sting's version is just flat out nuts, not to mention inspired as hell.

Here's a great dynamic live version of Little Wing by Steve Lukather. The title of the video suggests Larry Carlton is part of the band, but I can't hear him playing. Anyway, this cover is outstanding imho.

Yep, and who was the producer? Sir George Martin!

Some of you maybe are shocked what I'm posting here, but give it a listen, it's worth it.

Jon Bon Jovi Blaze Of Glory with an amazing guitar solo (3:19) played by no one else than Jeff Beck. I doubt any 80s guitarist could have done it so good and suitable.

"Blaze of Glory" IS great...y'know, if you fast-forward through the song to the guitar solo...

Who knew Mr. Clean moonlighted as a drummer in a rock band?
