Keith Moon, The Who drummer who died in 1978, was invited to play at the Olympics

Ever since Beijing put on one of the most spectacular coordinated displays in human history at the 2008 Olympic Opening Ceremony, observers have wondered how London could possibly improve on it. This would be a start.

Organizers for the 2012 ceremony recently asked the manager of The Who if legendary drummer Keith Moon would be able to perform at the London Games. It was a fine idea, except that Moon has been dead for 34 years.

Bill Curbishley told The Times how he responded to the request.

"I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to The Who's anthemic line 'I hope I die before I get old,'" he said. "If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him."

It doesn't surprise me actually. I was involved with the Salt Lake City olympic committee and I could write a novel on the stupidity I saw being involved with that. Many people have no idea how corrupt the international olympic committee is and the amount of bribery that goes on. Things got so out of hand some heavy hitter real estate and finance people brought in Mitt Romeny to oversee the situtation. Mitt did a good job but the whole thing left a sour taste in my mouth. I was prettty much done with the whole olympic thing after that. It's all about buying influence and bribes and exploiting olympic fever. The olympics can actually ruin the community they take place in due to all the corruption that comes with it and cities can be saddled with decades of debt. It's about everything but the athletes actually.

I agree with you. The Olympic Committe is about everything but the athletes and their sports. My sport is squash, (softball or english squash) I played professionally. Is one of the most demanding sports, physically, technically and mentally challenging. It is unthinkable that even today it is not an Olympic Sport. Money talks in the Olympic Committee, not the true Sports Spirit.
It is unbelievable they invited Keith Moon to perform at London Olympics!!! He is laughing very loudly from the other side..... The Drum Master and Master of Jokes!!!!

Microphones and Amplifiers were invented ( actual truth: they never existed till this moment occured) solely because, once Moon started, the other musicians on the band -The Who- could not be heard at all.

Sorry, it's not gonna happen. Because if I let Moon go up there for a visit, I'd have to send Entwistle up with him. And then somebody would ask for guitarists too, like Randy Rhoads or Hendrix or somebody. Then you would want me to send up Freddie Mercury or Bon Scott to front this band, and if this kept going, eventually I'd have no talent left in Hell.

I thought it was pretty good.Would be interesting if Daltrey ever gets the movie off the ground.They really could do something interesting to say the least.

It was A good read and am massive moon fan , got a half sleeve tat and in amongst the tribal part is " what would Keith moon do " ... Any time I hear a movie of moons life It keeps having fucking jim Carey attached ... Wtf ..
