Van Halen to play SAP conference in Orlando on 5/16

My brother is attending this conference in Orlando in May and he told me that Van Halen is playing.
I didn't believe him, but then I saw this link:
    http://www.sapandasug.com/entertainment.html

You Florida fans get 1 more show. Good luck trying to get in!

Only $1950.00 to register... not much cheaper than a VIP package!!

Might be a good event for VH to go off the set list menu for something unique...

Florida? Maybe when they said they were in Orange County, Eddie assumed it was nearby his home.

Well, you can save money by staying with a family that lives here, make them supply you with meals and force them wait on you hand and foot for the entire stay while never once offering a dime in payment. Trust me, my relatives from New Jersey have been pulling this off since sometime in the late 1960s.

Hmmm, any chance our DDE rep has an extra ticket laying around for a super loyal Florida fan that just followed them through the state??

Odds are it's a smaller venue... they'll probably use a smaller set-up like the Hensen or Cafe Wha gigs. Rented stage and sound system... while the big show stays on the road. Fly in the band and a couple of techs... then back to the real deal.

Guaranteed it's a stripped down stage and sound rig ---- probably only an hour set with 11 or 12 songs.

I bet VH is doing this gig because Live Nation isn't getting a cut of the paycheck like they do with the contracted arena shows. More greenbacks in their pockets.

Which begs the question ---- would VH actually play the high school graduation party of the kid of some super-rich assholes? I wish I was Bill Gates's son!

Thanks a lot SAP. This explains the May 15 Regina date that was mysteriously up on TicketMaster for one day before it disappeared.

I'm betting it is the full show, stage and all. They did the same thing for RIM at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto last tour.

They played at Jeff Spicolis birthday party after he rescued Brooke Shields from drowning.

But they are a band....a band for hire. That's what every arena show is. Some venue hiring Van Halen to play. If you had the right money I'm sure you could hire ANY band. $1 mill for an arena or $1 mill for a private party.....who fucking cares?

Yeah, but that was back in the days when $20 for a concert ticket was considered "extreme scalping". I doubt Spicoli could afford them now.

Some of those private gigs can be quite lucrative ---- I heard Bill Gates paid Willie Nelson a cool million to play at his wedding in 1994.

I bet VH could command at least $1.5M for a private show ---- start saving up!

I don't know how much, but I'm pretty sure they were paid about $1 million for RIM's (Blackberry vendor) private gig at the Air Canada Centre in '07....

BIG TIME. They tend to rule in comparison to garden-variety gigs in as far as what the band and crew get, too - Pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but in 2001 IIRC a mutual friend hooked me up with a stage hand gig at a corporate show Kevin Dugan was running for Willie Nelson of all people (it was reeeeally slow in VH land back then). First off, Dugan is AWESOME, love that dude, can't say enough good about him - but even the crew were treated like kings - we got fully catered breakfast, lunch and dinner...and NOT the average bagels/donuts and then a deli-tray action...full menus each time. Dinner was fliet mignon and lobster tail. Dugan walks up to us at dinner and says"....Yeah, guys...sorry - I REALLY have to aplogize about the food tonight!" They had so much left over we all got huge steamer trays to take home, too. This gig will likely NOT suck for VH, either.

My boss went to an SAP one a cuple of years ago that Rod Stewart played, says the accomodations were similar. I volunteered to go to this one, but she said no F*ing way...

Totally understandable from a casual fan though. They do say " I don't wanna" 4x's to "hear about it later"'s 1x.

I remember a few years back at Blizzcon. The annual World Of Warcraft convention. Those fuckers got OZZY to play. So you got thousands of gamer geeks & nerds (yes, I am one kinda) and the Prince Of Darkness. Many of these gamers were in costume as undead, orcs, blood elves, etc. Perfect fucking fit no?

Ozzy brought the house down & the gamers loved it. Was awesome for sure.

I only saw on Youtube & heard the reviews from people in-game.

By the way, if you aren't a geek or nerd but like to play awesome games, Warcraft is great. Plus I can go in with a pc issue & ask in general chat "hey, anyone know how to get rid of virus XYZ? Whisper me"...and sure enough 20 dudes will whisper me how to get rid of it. Geeks rule! Free computer repair!

Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

    It was the typical setlist.

However, all of the berr & concessions were free!

    Lucky bastards!

Those conventions usually cost between $1000 to $1500 to attend, of course your company picks up the tab most of the time....

This explains why the American economy is stagnant and ineffective --- send your employees to a convention at $1500 per head so they can enjoy free beer and a Van Halen concert !!

Next year they'll have to add in the $300/hour hooker and one-on-one pickup game with LeBron James ---- and the economy keeps swirling down the bowl
